Amerizza, HI! 🤗💐 I hope that I do your faith in me justice, when I get my replacement at some point. Only if I can find it locally though 😬 Thank YOU for taking the time to watch, Amerizza!! I hope that you are doing well and heading into a great day 🌸
Wow, what a huge difference between those Twinkles! I had one that just declined for no reason and another that was such a weed, I gave it away since it was getting too big. Thanks for teaching us and sharing the struggles and successes with these plants 😁
Jess, hi! 🤩💐 my apologies for such a late reply! I had issues with YT comments yesterday, and had to go through hoops to get to comments that I could answer. It appears that the gremlins are out of the system, and your comment should have been replied to on the day! I am sorry 😑 Leaving them in the same set up, no interference, same treatment from jump... and yep, Twinkles aren't all the same, at last not for me. But, now I will make changes.... I am not prepared to loose the cinnamon. Waiting for new growths 👍🏼 Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment, Jess! Also for your continued support on the CareCollabs. Have yourself a beautiful day 🌸
Hey Nina, mine had some brown leaf tips as well. I can understand your reason for wanting to keep them in your setup. That one big one looks healthy 👍 Great video as always and thanks for letting me join in on this collaboration.
Justin, hi!! 🤗💐 thank YOU for your continued support of the CareCollabs, Justin! So very much appreciated! I apologize for the late reply... YT had difficulty showing me my comments yesterday and I had to go another route to get at them, so... now I see all the comments that were around but I could not actually see, if that makes sense! My apologies! Have yourself a wonderful day, Justin and, again, thank you for your continued support all 'round 🌸
Thank you for this! After quite a long wait to find a twinkle, I finally found one and it seems quite healthy for now, your information is very helpful! Have a wonderful day, Ruth
HI Ruth!! 🤩💐so good to see you again! How kind of you to take the time to watch this video and leave me a comment 🥰 I appreciate your positive feedback, as well. Have you been back to Nar recently? I wonder what happened to the camera that had the direct view to the cone 🤷🏼♀️ But that thing was just pouring incessantly 3 days ago, when they still had the camera pointing directly to the cone. It is mesmerising 😅I hope that you are doing well and had a wonderful Saturday 🌸
@@NinjaOrchids Hi NInja, I really like your videos. No nonsense and straight to the point. Kinda like me :) Truth be told, I leave at least 2 live feeds running all day. One is a wildlife cam in Denmark, the setting is gorgeous and the sounds are very soothing, for the most part as fights and males pheasant loud vocals often occure, but I like it on in for the back ground sound. (Morten Hilmer, wild life photographer) The other(s) are a combination of the volcano live feeds, TokAir, RUV and afarTV. I get a kick out of GutnTogs videos and Daily Iceland as well. What happens with Nar is anyone's guess. So, yes, I am pretty much always 'there' while working in the office/grow/fish tank room. Have a wonderful rest of the weekend! Take care, Ruth
That is great feedback, thank you so much! So, for the past 2 hours I have had the livestream that you sent me the link of,... from Morten Hilmer, next to me as I am working on images 👍🏼 afarTV seems to have lost access to the camera that points to the cone. They don't like anyone asking questions as to why it is not available anymore. The TokAir is familiar to me, but I liked the bigger view of one volcano only. Gutn Tog 🤣 love him! And he always make me perk up when he posts about Nina, his wife... or mentions her name. It is so weird to hear that name used elsewhere 🤪
@@NinjaOrchids Hi, Yes, I agree, afartv is quite stringent, but TokAir, (previously know as Tokolosk) is quite receptive, although I do not comment there, but read alot. He also has a discord page is which is very helpful. The mods often post links to it or you can type idiscord. And the bots will post the link asap. I especially like the links to the newest 3D maps!
Oh! I did not know that .... TokAir was Tokolsk. I have a discord for Ninja Orchids, but have not had time to do the research as to how it works. I want to build a community there for us. From what I read, it is a great place to hang out and get people together... but it appears quite intricate, so before announcing it to the channel, I need to understand what it is really all about and the potential I can use to make it great for us.
April! HI! 🤩💐 they would love your climate, outdoors, rain... etc! I look forward to seeing you get one, and on the list you go! No ifs, no buts!! 😅 Thank you for taking the time to watch, and ... leave a comment! I think that we are well on our way to get you 'outed' 🥰😅 Have yourself a wonderful day, April! btw, I emailed Fernanda 👍🏼👍🏼
Hi!! Amigo!! 🤩💐 thank you for being here, my friend and for your kind comment, for watching, for your support! So very much appreciated! I hope that you are doing well 🥰 have a wonderful evening 🌸
Well I'm glad you went with what you wanted to do, sometimes we gotta try! Its all a learning game! Can't wait to see them bloom!!! Cuidate hermosa!! 💖💖🌿🌿😁😁
RRrreeeeyyyy!! ¡¡Hola!! guapo! 🤩💐 I just really wanted to prove Michael wrong, and .... boom!! 🤪 The Michael knows what he is talking about, but... yeah.. it would have been nice to say... LOOK!! Its doing GREAT! 😅 Hakuna matata! If I get another one, I will try again and tweak the climate of the pot, and maybe, just maybe, I can one day say... LOOK!! White Fantasy is doing GREAT!! 😎 Thank you so much for being here! Have yourself an amazing day, Rey! 🥰🌸
I have two white fantasies in the same clay pot, planted in small bark with a little sphagnum (same as all my other orchids.) I never knew they were expected to not do well in pots; they seem to love it. Both were two pseudobulb size, one is trying to grow three new puesdobulbs at once and the other is growing one (it had a bad case of rot when I got it so I consider this to be good.) Thanks for doing this series and discussing this wonderful little orchid! Just thought I'd share my experience, it's really fun to see what everyone's doing with theirs!
Hi Jennifer! 🤩💐 welcome! I have not seen you here before, so a warm warm welcome and thank you so much for being here, I really appreciate it 🙌🏼🤗 since this video aired, I have lost the white fantasy (which is supposedly the worst to grow in a pot) and the cinnamon, which was quite weak from the start, but.... I got the leca size ration wrong to make these super happy! I am fighting for the survival of my Red Fantasy, after it had a horrendous scale attack during it's spiking period late winter. Rot set in because I was treating it a lot with alcohol, and the temperatures were too cold to dry things out etc etc etc. I have to do an update on it at some point, because, some interesting things have happened since I featured it in a 'How to deal with rot' tutorial. I am so glad that you did share your experience, I really appreciate that! It is wonderful to have this kind of input underneath a video, in case people check the comments for more information 👍🏼 always open to others' experiences, so... keep them coming in any video you watch! Thank YOU so much for watching, for commenting, and once again... welcome! I appreciate you being here 🙌🏼 hope you had yourself a great day 🌸
Hi!! 🤩💐 I am on the path of apologies to all that commented yesterday and I could not see the comments. I am sorry for the late reply! I had issues with Studio yesterday, comments were not visible to me, and going around the other route, helped to some degree, but as I see today... here you are (incl others) and you weren't here yesterday! Once again, I apologize 🤗🙌🏼 I will get another White Fantasy, if I can source it locally... I am sure it can be done, if tweaked. At least, that is what I am telling myself 😅 thank you for your continued support of the CareCollabs! Have yourself a wonderful day 🌸 btw... do you have a Doritaenopsis Sogo Vivien?
Hi!! 🤩💐 thank you, amigo! For your positive feedback and as always, for being here and watching! So very much appreciated! Have yourself a wonderful evening 😎🌸
Hi!! 🤩💐 how have you been?? Good to see you again! 🙌🏼 right?? they look rather mangled don't they! Nope... this is all me and my doing / not doing... but.. I shall persevere and am eventually going to get it right 🤞🏼😬 thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment! Very much appreciated 🌸 have a wonderful day 👍🏼🌸
Interesting comment about the white fantasy orchid. I grow mine indoors (avg temp 20 degrees Celsius, humidity 30-40%), in a mixture of leca and seramis and it's been doing well. Been in the same pot since Dec 2019. I find that the Twinkle likes being in a small pot, although the downside is that you have to top up the reservoir frequently during hot summer days.
Melanie! Hi! 🤩💐 so good to see you again! Thank you so much for being here 🤗 very interesting... your key to success is what I suspected! Smaller and more water retentive media instead of what I potted mine up with, mix of random size leca which, the large being too dry. Thank you so much for sharing your set up... it confirms what I am thinking went wrong with mine and what I would adjust if I can get a replacement locally! I hope that you are having a great day 👍🏼🌸
Hi Nina! I hope you are well and happy 😊 Maybe get 2 white fantasys' and do a comparison experiment with one mounted on your ninja mount and one in a pot with leca? I put a lot of microfiber in through the pumice and they are picking up momentum. I use my leca pumice mix as the "bark" and microfiber as the "moss" with oncidiums because they like to stay wetter.
Darcy!! 🦩🤩💐 if my garden centre has some in the future, and the price is agreeable, then, yes... you have a great idea there! One with the pot climate tweaked and another on a Ninja mount ... lots of poofy hob material 👍🏼👍🏼 I will definitely keep that in mind, thank you! And thank you for watching 🌸 have yourself a beautiful day 🌸
Love a good twinkle. I agree, they sort of spike whenever. Some happen in the fall... Some rebloom in the spring. I detect different fragrances on some of them, I had one that was weirdly grassy in the past. Disappointing the cinnamon one didn't smell like cinnamon . Those colors though! 😂 I have the white fantasy too and I potted it into leca self watering too... So far it's ok... Let's see how it goes long term. Michael is the Don though, he's usually right!
Nicole 🤩💐Hi! I love me a good Twinkle as well, but... I have as yet to grow mine good, well, one is but the other two? Suspect at best. 😬 I was sooooo looking forward to being able to show Michael... you see? It does work ...uhm.. yeah!! 😅🤣 but, something tells me, I can get a white fantasy happy in leca... I just have to get the pot climate right. I just thought it was fun to fess up to wanting to prove Michael wrong and eat humble pie because, He is right 99% of the time! All good fun 🤪 thank you so much for watching, Nicole! Have yourself a great day and.... stay cool 😎🌸
I don’t remember having a twinkles. But last year, my husband bought me three sharry baby and they’re all gone. I don’t understand why it’s so hard to grow them. So this year I received a lot of Oncidium orchids from the boxes of orchids husband bought for me again. And I am going to treat them differently this time. We’ll see if they’re going to survive. I will definitely going to share it with y’all. I am planning to make a video of them this month because they’re just done blooming. Some of them has new growths already. I just want to take care of it in a be sitting so I don’t hurt them so much. Anyway, I’m sorry for the struggles of your twinkles my dear Nina, I feel you. I hope they all survive. 💞🤗🌸🦋
Lovely Lady, Leah!! 🤩💐🤸🏼♀️🙌🏼 soooo good to see you, my friend! I have not been able to watch many videos lately, because I had terrible problems with my eyes, so I am glad that I did not miss any videos of your other oncidiums! The Twinkle struggles are because I was stubborn 😬 next time I get a white twinkle, I am going to do the same set up but tweak what is in the pot. I have to wait to find a Twinkle locally though. I want to see the plant and not buy one off the internet. Thank you for watching, Leah and for leaving me a kind comment! Really appreciate you and our friendship! Hugs to you 🥰🌸
Hi Gabriele 🤗💐 well, I am going to keep my fingers crossed that it stays around and gets it's act together! Just like complex phals, these guys are volatile (imo) supposed easy growers but they have a quirk in them that needs to be understood. At least that is what I am seeing with my trio, now duo. Thank you so much for watching, Gabriele! I hope that you have a wonderful day 🌸
To me the twinkles smell like cotton candy 🍭. I have Oncidium Tsukuba Margueale. She is potted in a clay pot with small bark.Great bloomer. Thanks for sharing 🤗🌴🍭
Shirley, hi! 🤩💐 cotton candy... now that I think of it, yes... you are right! Thank you so much for watching, lovely lady!! Always so generous with your time and your comments. You are very much appreciated and I wish you a beautiful day 🌸
Hi Nina great video I've got two of mine in s/h so I'm trying them with small clay balls , and my nerves are shot after the video 😂😂 thank you for asking me to join in 😘
🤸🏼♀️🤸🏼♀️🤸🏼♀️🤸🏼♀️🥰🙌🏼🙌🏼 I am watching your video as I type this comment 🙌🏼🙌🏼 you rock, Steven!! Thank you!! I have goosebumps!! So happy 🥰🥰 may I suggest you turn off the setting, made for kids, so that we can leave comments under your video 🙏🏼 ... I'll be back for more, just wanted you to know that the kids setting stops anyone from leaving a comment. 😘
working on a glitch in the YT studio! It was live this morning, so, fingers crossed we can get it sorted out! Thank you so much, Julia, for going to the link and giving us a heads up!🥰
I have mine in semi-hydro with synthic. I took annabells tip to top with pebbles. Mine are still young plants. I have two white fantasy and so far they seem to love it, but I live in Florida so humidity isn’t an issue. I’m a new grower but it seems they like the extra moisture from the synthic.
Kathy! 🤩💐Hi!! Welcome to my comments' section!! I have not seen you here before, so, let me first extend a warm warm welcome 🙌🏼💐 I think that the white fantasy was in too big leca for it to be happy! By the sounds of it, your's is happy in a much more water retentive set up, and that being in FL! Yeah, if I get another one, I am going to go with the smallest leca that I can separate out and see how it will do. I am so glad that you are here, and I really hope to see you more often! Thank you so very much for watching and for giving me your set up 'climate'... that is really helpful and an eyeopener 🤗 have a wonderful rest of your day 🌸
Good day to you! I'll send you our hot weather if you send me cold :D That's super interesting about the twinkles, but then again, each orchid can behave a bit differently. But I'm the same as you. Stubborn. But my guess would be that potted they require such an intricate balance that it's harder to do than mounted. Still I would be surprised if it wasn't doable. I think having different sizes of leca could be one of the problems, since if you don't have roughly consistent sizes, they create different environments inside the pot, potentially confusing the orchid and some roots failing leading to more failure. Even with organics the pot environment isn't homogenous, there are places that have more air and places that are tighter and thus wetter from the substrate when it's watered. While on a mount the environment is pretty consistent. So if it was on me (and take this with the caveat that I never ever owned a twinkle, just brainstorming here), I would try to go for consistency, maybe smaller pot to really equalize as much as I could the environment throughout the pot. But again, those are just my thoughts based on "they don't like being potted, they like being mounted". Anyway, I hope your surviving one will bush out as the other in time. Take care!
🌸🥷🏼 SnowDragonka San! 🙌🏼🤩💐 Good day to you too!! With Twinkles... my stubborn insistance of, its my way or the highway, get free reign. I really wanted to prove a point 😬😎 I am sure that it is doable and do we will if I see another one in my garden centre. I like how you broke down the 'they don't like being potted, they like being mounted' and applied it to the consistency and climate of the pot 👍🏼👍🏼 that makes all the sense in the world! I like your thoughts, mucho! I think we are maybe even Stevens with the weather today, but the breeze is misleading, so... yeah. I can feel a difference though, sitting at my desk and how my mouse moves... my humidity is 👎🏼 my mouse is a fast sucker when there is no humidity 😅 Thank you so much for watching, SnowDragonka San! I hope that you are able to indulge in yummy ice cream... top tip for hot day 👍🏼 watermelon will do as well, but I prefer ice cream 😬 have yourself a wonderful day 🌸🥷🏼🥰
@@NinjaOrchids I actually ate the rest of half a watermelon this morning, it was like 4kgs :D ate the remainder yesterday, need to buy more tomorrow :D And regarding the thinking that's what I've been doing ever since I started messing with the trees. Since I design my own pots for 3d printing (cause I got frustrated of not finding what I actually need), I think a lot about why certain things are done and what does that mean for my environment, my preffered style of growing and different trees even. Everything has a logical explanation and reasoning behind it. Nothing is "cause that's how it is in nature", it has a reason why the plant selects these conditions, it has some effect on their growth habit. And if you change it, it may result in failure (or not, some plants are hard to disappoint). But for me the most important thing to find out is WHY there is a failure or WHY they need something. And I dedicated all my research into those. So far it let me grow nepenthes purely in inorganics while using tap water, so I'm happy with that :)
Gosh.. if I ever can afford a 3D printer... I think I would have to film footage for an entire week of videos for YT and then spend the week working with the printer. 😅 Must be amazing to sit down and design according to needs and have exactly what you want! Love it! 👍🏼
I have the worst luck with these also🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️…I’m embarrassed to say how many I’ve replaced(lol)…now my Tsuika Margarite is on her last mature pseudo bulb and her two leaves are turning yellow from the base of the healthy bulb…I am so perplexed🤔
Eva! 🤩💐 welcome to my comments' section, Eva! I have not seen you here before, so... a warm warm welcome and thank you so much for being here! 🤗I have since put the cinnamon in to rescue mode, so.... yeah! Seems as if there is a difference in vigor throughout the different Twinkles, ... all I can say, is, keep trying! Seeing as they are easy to come by and usually not that expensive, keep trying... there is a recipe there somewhere that works for them. I insist on inorganic growing, so I have to find the right combination for the cinnamon, IF it decides to pull through. I don't know how you grow, your media, set up and environment, so, I am not able to trouble shoot with you, but if you would like to leave that information in a reply, maybe I can give some pointers? Basically, my mistakes and turn them around and suggest the opposite for future success? Let me know! In the meantime, once again, welcome! And thank you so much for watching, Eva 🌸
🌸🥷🏼Trish San! 🤩 hi! 💐 you know, I was thinking small leca only for next time 🤣 but.. I see what you are saying. Thing is, they dry out so fast, with large leca (I had a mix of small and large in the pot because back then I did not separate) I thought it was not getting enough access to water and for that reason it went downhill. If I get a replacement, and only if I see one in my garden center, I may revisit the climate of the pot for the white version. The cinnamon, when it starts on new growths / roots, is going in a smaller pot, as per what Michael suggested... even though inorganic media doesn't make the pot size relevant, there is something to be said about being able to keep the orchid hydrated if the pot is too big. Weird huh? 3 of the same but 3 different ongoings. Don't hate me for letting my white one die 😬 I had to see if it would. If I made changes and then it died, I would have drawn the conclusion that it died because I messed with it too soon and not seen what it would do having left it alone and treated it like all the others. Thank you so much for watching, Trish! I have you on the list for Twinkles, just so that I do not forget and am ready when you get one! See, that I did not say IF! 😅😊 Have yourself a wonderful day 🙌🏼🥰🌸🥷🏼
Lol. No you did not say “if”! And I could never hate you 😍. Experimenting a Is part of the hobby as is losing some orchids. 🤞 that you find one at you local garden center. I am still going to try and source one locally before I purchase one online. Happy Wednesday!
Wow what a difference. Yes normally I'd agree with Michael but my white fantasy was in a pot and I just sent one to Justin. Mine has done better in pots than mounts. 🤷♀️ I split mine and potted a few and mounted a few. My mounts are not doing well. I am considering putting back them back in a pot.
Paula! 🤩🤩💐 Hello lovely lady 🥰 I am so glad to hear that White Fantasy does well in pots! Honestly.... for a little bit of fun and wanting to be so proud of myself, to show Michael 'LOOK, my Twinkle is doing GREAT!' I kept doing what I was doing together with the other ones. As much as I hate loosing an orchid, I had to keep this up, because I so desperately wanted to be right and, IF I had tinkered with the set up, then... maybe it would have died anyway because of the stress of messing around with it. But I had full intentions of showing my White Fantasy thriving in a pot.... humble pie was delicious though 😅😂 I will try again, if I can source one locally, but only if it isn't silly price. I really appreciate your feedback and insight, Paula. I may one day, say... LOOK!! My Twinkle is doing GREAT! Referring to the White Fantasy 🤞🏼 thank you, also, for watching! Much appreciated 🌸Have yourself a wonderful day, Paula 🌸
@@NinjaOrchids I totally understand. Plus you never know that could have been a weak plant. I have the Red and Pink fantasy ones as well and they are potted and doing good. So far.
🤗Jambo again! Is there a difference between Tiny and ordinary Twinkles? I have three with labels saying Tiny Twinkles. I thought they were just tiny because I received young plants, about a year ago. I had a couple of self watering pots spare so I put them in there using bark, perlite & lava, using the reservoir to keep humidity at the base. So far, no drying leaf tips, lots of lovely new roots and growths.🤞it stays that way and bloom. I found the fragrance not that strong. If I could get my hands on an Oncidium Pupukea again then I wouldn’t bother with twinkles at all. The Pupukea’s lemon, rose, sugar fragrance filled the whole room. 🌸❤️
Heeeyy!! What a treat! 🤩🤸🏼♀️🙌🏼 In my opinion, there is a difference between the regular Twinkles and the Tiny Twinkles. Their size and subsequent size of the blooms. I find that the Tiny Twinkles are a third smaller than regular Twinkles, but the care is no different... well, I say that, 😅 knowing now that my 3 different Twinkles are behaving differently. I like the sound of your Twinkles... goals of mine, for sure. the Pupukea sounds divine! Might keep an eye out for that 👍🏼👍🏼
Hi ninja, the strength you mention using sounds fine but I think yours might be suffering from a potassium deficiency. I think you might be pleasantly surprised trying it on your Phalaenopsis too. In autumn would be a good time to switch to a bloom feed that contains more Potassium compared to the other macro nutrients, this is the time they will be showing signs of leaf browning. I don't think the white one died from being potted. I just cannot believe that to have been the reason. Try it next year in autumn feed the same strength but use a bloom feed that is high in potassium instead. It should improve things for you. You can even try some now since they are deficient but use the same strength you usually would and don't overdo it with too much potasium long term.
Tom, hi! 🤗💐 welcome! I have not seen you here before, so... first and foremost, a warm warm welcome to you and massive thank you for watching and leaving such an informative comment! I really appreciate it! Well, your comment is coming at a great time (not for my Twinkles) seeing as the next update will be airing pretty soon. Spoiler alert: I have lost cinnamon as well, since this video. I am very stubborn on some orchids with regards to my set up, so... that one is on me! I am curious about the higher potassium dosis, and will definitely look into it further. For my Red Fantasy, it is a little late, BUT, this is a good heads up if mine is still around next year. Really appreciate your comment, Tom! Thank you so very much! And once again, welcome! 🙌🏼🌸
🦒🙌🌷!!!! In our climats with humidity or lack of it happening in the wrong season for orchids we have to depend so much on the quality of the plants, that is, if we grow outdoors. In my personal experience it makes a great differance when it comes to mount them. It is not just the frequency of watering, it is also the envionmental humidity. If it is a vigorous plant it will adapt to air dryness, if not... there is no mount that can save them. But we do what we can do, and I face it as something similar to a natural selection in our habitats, like in the wild. Facing harsher conditions only the strong survive... 🙌😏 Raining in the early hours around here, just a drizzle. Although I very much prefer the sun, the humidity is very welcome too for the sake of the orchids 🤣, no matter what it does to my old bones... I am sending you some of it, I have plenty to spare, 96%... Have a great day amiga mia, hope you continue to do well. Take good care of yourself, please!!! Sending you much love with hugsssss 💖😍🤗
FFF 🙌🏼🤸🏼♀️🥰💐 well, ... I wanted to show Michael that it can be done 😬 he warned me about White Fantasy aaaannnnnddd yeah 😑 but, I know that it can be done... I just need to get the leca / pot ratio right and IF I consider getting a White Fantasy, then, I will do it again, but tweak the climate in the pot. When I saw it going downhill, I thought, save it! Do something! but, then I just wanted to see what it would do treated the same way as the other 2. And this is what it did. I probably have people disapproving of my treatment and letting it die, but tbh... seeing how it wasn't going to be happy either way, I was not about to try and figure something out for a plant in a weakened state, which may have killed it as well, but then would I know if it died because I disturbed it? Or? For me... it is all just very interesting. This is not a fail that bothers me too much! The monachica last year... and the phals, ... those were ones that really bothered me. Anyhooo.... I had to show people, and I appreciate you taking the time to join in this CareCollab! Thank you, meine liebe Freundin 🥰 have yourself a beautiful day! We are expecting rain on Friday 50% chance, so ... judging by what happened in the past weeks, I am not holding my breath. 😬 much love to you, vecina favorita! ❤️🌸
Added a couple of Twinkles to my collection yesterday. Watching this video to see if there is more knowledge out there about growing these. I have the best luck with oncidiums so I will probably draw from that previous education. The only issue that I have with oncidiums is the spotting on some of the leaves. The opinion in the "orchid world" seems to be that the leaf spotting is just something to accept on oncidiums. Do you have any experience with controlling the leaf spotting? Are there other videos on oncidiums in your video collection? As always, appreciate your comments on orchids.
Hi Pat 😍💐congratulations on your newcomers!! 🙌🏼🥳 I will not recommend growing them in leca. I was doing quite well with just one of them but scale took that one out to what I have left now, which is a tiny piece on a mount. I know that they grow in leca, but have not figured it out 100% for me to make recommendations. All I can say is, they are thirsty little orchids. Water from below to avoid rot because of their tight growth habit, to avoid rot. Leaf spotting on oncidiums truly is one of those hit and miss situations. High humidity with good airflow will prevent it from happening. However, with Twinkles, they are also prone to browning of the tips of the leaves and that is because the airflow may cause the humidity to drop. They are quite the little divas. Be extra careful of any pest attacks. Their structures do not have tough cuticles, and are always a great go to for mealy bugs or scale. Prevention, as always, is better than cure. If you see any spotting on the leaves, try to treat with hydrogen peroxide, wiping the affected leaves down with a cotton disk. Then wiping non affected leaves with a clean disk, also with hydrogen peroxide and, unfortunately hope for the best. I know that this is probably not the answer you were hoping for. It is true, the oncidium alliance is so hybridized that some do not know what they are supposed to do, and the conditions might be great for one ancestor but not for others etc etc. make sure that you give your Twinkles regular CalMag separate from your fertilizer. They might be small, but they love their CalMag👍🏼 thank you for watching my video! I have managed to save my Red Fantasy by mounting it, and it is spiking on the next growth, while the previous growth is already starting with a new growth. I am hopeful for it to do well in the coming season when temps warm up 🤞🏼 let me know if you have any questions at all, even if you just need a confirmation of something you want a second opinion on 👍🏼 hope you are having a beautiful day 🫶🏼❤️🌸
Ian! 🤗💐Hi! I know, right?? I was so looking forward to show him that it can be done 😏🤪 and I still think that it can be done, but... differently! Still, I thought it would also be fun to eat my humble pie on video and admit, Michael was right, I was wrong! He is a great guy... this one though, stings a little, because I really thought my twinkle would not become a statistic 😬 and that I could walk away proudly. Uhm.... maybe next time! 😎Thank you so very much for watching, Ian! I hope that you have a wonderful day today 🌸
NewZealand spagnum moss. I have the white (fragrance fantasy) & the cinnamon. I grow indoors so that’s totally different. 🇨🇦. I have to laugh at your stubbornness 😉💞. I have heard that they don’t like a lot of fertilizing. 🧐. Great video.
Hi Sheila 🤗💐 how wonderful to see you again! I appreciate you being here and hope that you are having a lovely day already 🤗 My stubbornness... yes... in this case, I so desperately wanted to say to Michael... SEE?? Doing great!! 😎 but the humble pie was delicious and a little fun thrown in at the same time. Now, I am hoping to find a replacement locally and then we shall try again. Something tells me, it can be done 😬 but, I don't mess about with the other orchids that are harder to replace. I will pipe down on the fertilizer and do a little more on the seaweed front 👍🏼👍🏼 methinks you are right in what you are doing and despite being vigorous (one of them) they are not large structures, so ... thank you for the heads up! And for watching, thank you very much! 🌸
Attempted a Red Fantasy, ended up like your White Fantasy. My Tsiku Marguerite which looks like a twinkle, smells like a twinkle but grows like a weed for me is another story
Hi Andrea 🤗💐 interesting but I am sorry to hear that your Red Fantasy didn't grow so vigorous. How very strange that they each have their different quirks! We need to crack the code on each individual Twinkle variety. Just like complex hybrid Phals 😅 thank you so much for watching and sharing your experience! I hope that you are having a great day 🌸
I was going to send you an email for a carecollab... 😅 I have some things to say... I have 1 little root growing 🤣 if you are up to it... I will email you and we can set a date after the zygos ? Thank you so much for coming to look at The Good The Bad and The Ugly 🌸
Hi Rachel 🤩💐 welcome!! I have not seen you here before, so a warm warm welcome and thank you so much for being here, I so appreciate it!! Why do the leaves go yellow? When it comes to Twinkles, there are several reasons, and I am going to assume that you are not referring to old leaves that are soon to drop off. So, my major observations with yellowing Twinkle leaves, is that somewhere there are pests. Mealy bugs or scale that are in the sheaths between the pseudobulbs destroying the flow of nutrients and hydration to the leaves above. I have had that happen to my Twinkles since the video aired. Also, too much light can make the leaves turn a yellow color. While the leaves are ok, the orchid needs to be removed from such high light influence and they will revert back to their greener hue. Low humidity will take an effect as well. Usually starting at the tips. Twinkle leaves have very thin protective cuticle, so there is not much protection against dehydration through the leaves if the ambient humidity is below 40%. Too much airflow, low humidity is stressing the leaves and they will turn yellow. I hope that with some of these reasons I was able to answer your question. If not, please let me know more specifics about your conditions and we can troubleshoot further. Thank you so much for watching, I hope that you are having a wonderful day, and once again.... welcome 🫶🏼🌸
Hi Matt! 🤗💐 well... I could have done something about it sooner, but I really wanted to show Michael that it can be done 😅😬 uhm.... I still think it can be done, but, differently and not mounted 🤪 I think that cinnamon will be fine, once it starts new growths and I can then interfere. I refused to interfere before because I wanted this CareCollab video to feature the differences. Thank you for watching, Matt! Have a wonderful Thursday, my friend! 🤗🌸
You know, I used to get the brown tips when trying to grow mine in a pot. When I switched it to a mount, the leaf tip browning stopped. So I think it is more due to water combined with high temperatures. I could be wrong, but mine is definitely drier when it is hot and stays moister longer when it is cool and the problem resolved. Perhaps if/when the Cinnamon starts new growths, put it in a smaller pot with leca but akedama and grit at the top. I know, pot size shouldn't be important, but some orchids just establish better when the roots "hit a wall", especially struggling plants. You can always slip pot later to a larger size. Perhaps now is the time to play around a bit with the polyester stuffing material. I ended up having to cut a drain hole in the bottom because it retained too much moisture (for me) for a Vanda. Even draining out, it keeps the roots hydrated almost 24 hours in my environment. So, perhaps put some in a s/h cup and add some water and see how it works in your climate. After 24 hours, stick in a bamboo skewer or toothpick and see where the "wet" line is. The top is always going to be dry, same as leca, but if it can wick high enough on its own, maybe a consideration. One thing to keep in mind is a stake will always be necessary until it establishes or the plant will wobble (and potting up means wrapping the roots in the material and then putting it in the pot). Also, you will laugh at this. The warscewicii buds pierced the sheath today. Well, they are calling for downpours here in a bit that weren't supposed to happen. I can't move it into the lanai to keep it dry, it attached roots to another mount. I don't want water damaging the buds or filling up the sheath so, in an effort to keep them dry, I was out there with a flashlight and clingfilm, putting a poncho over the leaf and sheath in an effort to keep them dry.
Don Miguel 🥰💐 ooohhhh... I wanted so much to show you my fantastic successful pot full of White Fantasy and proudly say... it's doing GREAT!! 😅😎 the humble pie was delicious though 🤣🤣 I will reduce the Cinnamon pot size, yes... as you say, it shouldn't matter, but, clearly there is nothing wrong with going down a pot size, even if it is a seedling cup that I use for my seedlings. I hope that it will do something soon. I really don't want to loose cinnamon. I will do that little test with the hob material. What I used for the phaius spikes.. still haven't topped those bottles up and that was ages ago, but I will check what it does in a cup of it's own 👍🏼 I am totally with you with the poncho idea!! I chuckle because that is exactly where my mind would go, if I had that situation and I bet it looks cute wearing it AND more importantly... it is effective! btw... I have to tell you... even though I am going to show it in my end of june walkabout... my Stans have spikes growing! Through the hob material... and each basket has one growing on the top of the orchid. I am soooo excited!! I cannot believe it! I think I have counted 3 on one division and 2 on the other 🤸🏼♀️🤸🏼♀️🤸🏼♀️ I was like, naaahhh, not going to say anything until the video is posted, but, I am beside myself and can't keep it a 'secret'! 🤪🤪 Thank you so much for watching, Michael!! Hope that your buds made it through the rain, poncho wasn't blown off and all that good stuff!! Have a wonderful day ❤️🌸
@@NinjaOrchids 🎉 🎉 🎉 👏 👏 👏 finally we shall see what "Ete Chocolat Nuit" is supposed to mean. 🤣 Poncho is still on but, of course, it didn't rain (probably because I put on the poncho). But, they're calling for heavy rain today so I shall just leave it on. Buds can still push up, air flow from underneath. On the stuffing, I was thinking about the stuff from the doggy toys but can't hurt to try the hob material as well.
oohhh!!! yes!! I forgot about that stuffing! I will do that straight away before I forget again. I feel as though this whole eye debacle destroyed brain cells 😑
Im not a fan of leca or any free draining substrate for orchids unless they are known to be lithophytes like the Australian natives. A good potting mix with nutrient retention will be better on your orchids than pure leca specially if using RO water. You will see big difference on the leaves glossy texture. Flowers alone are not indication of a happy plant.
HI Randy😍💐 welcome! I have not seen you in the comments before, so first of all, I want to extend a warm warm welcome and a thank you for being here, for watching this video as well as commenting. I appreciate your input very much, so thank you 🫶🏼 since this video has aired, I have learned a lot about leca only as media. Sure has been an eye opening experience which I hope I could share in the past years to now. IF I would ever get twinkles again and use leca only to see if now I have it right, the leca would have to be small, not all mixed up as these were. So, as a quick update, the last remnant of the Twinkle Red Fantasy is now on a mount. It would appear that it may just survive, but I cut it very close with 'insisting' that I can do it in leca. 🙄😬 the others were not so lucky. Flowers are definitely NOT an indication of a happy plant, fully agree! I am a 'happy' spike cutter when needs must. Quite relieved actually when I have an orchid that I don't want to bloom, and then I cut the spike. A lot has changed since I started growing orchids in leca. My second collection was purely with organic media and clay pots, while my first collection was al fresco, in the landscape because I had that one in Kenya. Nature took care of those orchids 🤭😅 again, thank you for watching, welcome, I appreciate your time! Wishing you a wonderful Friday 🫶🏼❤️🌸

Hi!! 🤗💐 thank YOU for watching! So good to see you again 🙌🏼 hope that you are doing well. Wishing you a wonderful day 🌸
Thank you for this!
Kinda like me :)
Truth be told, I leave at least 2 live feeds running all day.
I need to get one of these! It is on my wish list :) Great video as always!
April! HI! 🤩💐 they would love your climate, outdoors, rain... etc! I look forward to seeing you get one, and on the list you go! White Fantasy is doing GREAT!! 😎 Thank you so much for being here! Have yourself an amazing day, Rey! 🥰🌸
@@NinjaOrchids for sure, next time! Lol 😁💖🌿
I have two white fantasies in the same clay pot, planted in small bark with a little sphagnum (same as all my other orchids.) I never knew they were expected to not do well in pots; they seem to love it. Both were two pseudobulb size, one is trying to grow three new puesdobulbs at once and the other is growing one (it had a bad case of rot when I got it so I consider this to be good.)
Thanks for doing this series and discussing this wonderful little orchid!
Thank YOU so much for watching, for commenting, and once again... welcome! I appreciate you being here 🙌🏼 hope you had yourself a great day 🌸
Wow, I had no idea white twinkles are so fussy, it's good I didn't get that one 😆

If you hasn't shown the shelf where you grow the Twinkles... I would have imagined King had Tinkled on your White Twinkle :)
Hugs to you 🥰🌸
My first twinkle went to orchid heaven. My second attempt is "hanging in there" and could go either way. 🤞
Hi Gabriele 🤗💐 well, I am going to keep my fingers crossed that it stays around and gets it's act together!
I agree with the change to the Leca size may help. Perhaps large Leca for the white twinkle to allow a quicker dry cycle? Kinda of mimicking a mount?

Is part of the hobby as is losing some orchids.
Raining in the early hours around here, just a drizzle.
I am hopeful for it to do well in the coming season when temps warm up 🤞🏼 let me know if you have any questions at all, even if you just need a confirmation of something you want a second opinion on 👍🏼 hope you are having a beautiful day 🫶🏼❤️🌸
Loll Michael was right, poor white twinkle 🪦
Ian!
I hope that you are having a great day 🌸
I wonder how your Howeara is doing. In my opinion, they need similar care… I am going to mount my twinkles at some point.
I was going to send you an email for a carecollab... 😅 I have some things to say... I have 1 little root growing 🤣 if you are up to it... I will email you and we can set a date after the zygos ? Thank you so much for coming to look at The Good The Bad and The Ugly 🌸
@@NinjaOrchids 😂 sure! I would love to! It would be fun. I just sent one to Nicole Deanna

Why do the leaves yellow
Thank you so much for watching, I hope that you are having a wonderful day, and once again.... welcome 🫶🏼🌸
Oh, no... I hope you'll get yours back to a happy state
Hi Matt!
Poncho is still on but, of course, it didn't rain (probably because I put on the poncho).
