- Hello my pretties. Check out this super easy tutorial on how to make a gold drip effect on cakes. This trend is absolutely stunning and it's extremely popular lately. You can use it for birthday cakes, baby showers, weddings, or simply to jazz up a boring cake for any occasion. Check out the video for the step by step instructions. Hope you enjoy!
WARNING:
Gold dust is NOT EDIBLE only nontoxic meaning it will not harm you (a healthy adult) if you eat it but it is not considered a food. please warn your customer of this and inform them that although it is safe to eat something that the gold dust has touched it is not recommended to eat the actual gold dust itself. Let them know they can eat around it but not the actual drips themselves.

• HOW TO MAKE PASSION FR...
Hi guys I’ve been getting soooo many comments on the fact that the gold I use is non edible. Some are plain rude and I’ve deleted them lol and some are genuinely curious so I figured I’d just answer it here in case anyone is curious... back when I made this cake ( almost 2 yrs before I even posted it) there was no such thing as edible dust only non toxic now they make some great ones so you can easily substitute it 😉 I always told my guests that they shouldn’t eat it and just eat around it... some people cared and scraped the design all together others didn’t and just told their guests not to eat the actual gold part. Being non toxic I wasn’t worried about it poisoning anybody. I think a lot of people get hung up on the non edible part they think kind of like poisonous but it’s not... it’s like if a kid eats a crayon 🖍 you know... it won’t kill them (non toxic) but you wouldn’t set it up on a plate for them at dinner either because it’s not considered a food (non edible) lolol that’s all it means... on that note some people say why use it at all? Well it’s the aesthetics... some people use non edible flowers and ornaments on their cakes others use gold dust 😝
Any suggestions for an "edible" version that shines as nice?
Nice
Yes agreed! Now there are 100s of edible lustre dusts in all colours, and also sprays for buttercream. Janie your cakes look lovely and moist😍
Your cake looks yummy.. Have you shared the recipe her on here??
refilwe palesa Chilisa thank you...😁 not yet... I have to work on a video showing how I do it but it's the same recipe as I used on most of my cakes... check out the white chocolate peppermint cake for example it's the same one just omit the peppermint extract... hope that helps
What are the straws for?
To prevent the top tier to collapse the second tier
@@JaniesSweets mind blown
The gold dust you like literally says Inedible on the front...
Potatophile yes love I know... it's not meant to be eaten... it also says non toxic on the front... meaning it wont kill you if it touches your food... i figured that the people watching the videos would know by now the whole back n forth that's been going on in the industry on this topic so I didnt bother talking about it... for me when I make these cakes I tell them they can eat around it they just dont eat the icing 🤷🏾♀️ if they want the look they gotta compromise on how much of the cake is edible... for some people it's worth it n they say go ahead for others it's not n they say nevermind... so it's up to you if you want to use it or not 🤗 but I see it as using any other thing that isnt edible like flowers or bling etc...
@@JaniesSweets I know this was posted awhile ago but here is a link to Edible gold dust iv used on some of my past cakes! Edible Cake Gold Dust amzn.to/3b4Ml56
The cake looks great. Thanks for the video! How did u make the ganache for the drip? Did u use white chocolate chips? Can I please have the recipe.
Sammar Qasim thank you for watching... yes I used white chocolate chips... its 2 cups chocolate chips and 1 cup heavy cream...

You should totally check out the last video I made 😉

Thank you for sharing I love this cake the gold is so classy I can’t wait to try I have never done a two tire cake either 😬 I’m in Australia 🇦🇺 we don’t get ever clear is there anything else I can use that will work just as well. Thanks in advance.
You're really good 💝 cake from your passion fruit cake
Hi Janie! Love the video! The outcome is stunning!! How do you get your cake layers so flat? Do you use baking strips?
Nushi W thank you so much for watching 😘 i don’t use cake strips my recipe bakes that flat I will share it in next Friday video 😊
Hi Janine. Just one question. Where can I get this turntable from
Hi,
Can this dripping technique be use on whipped cream ?
I’ve actually never tried on whipped cream I’m thinking it might be too hot to work properly but you never know 🤷♀️ if you do decide to try let us know if it worked 😊
@@JaniesSweets that's what I thought 😬
I stopped eating sugar and sweetener and my back pain of 7 years went away
Hi am interested in making passion fruit curls
That gold dust isn't edible!!
Roberta Cook hey love... thanks for mentioning that...😘 i just assumed everyone at this point knows that with all the research that's been done... Yes you are right, lustre dust or disco dust aren't a food and therefore NOT edible... none of them that are this shiny are... they are only considered non toxic as in they won't kill you if you ingest it... I wouldn't mix it in with the icing or the cake batter or add it in my baby's formula lolol 😂😂 but adding it to a drip decoration won't kill anyone if they ingest it... think about the slice someone would eat and how much dust is in there 🤔🤔🤔 you would have to eat an entire bottle of that stuff to have it hurt you I think... it's not like you just swallowed a battery... 🤣 idk in my opinion this whole edible not edible stuff is getting out of hand it's not rat poison 😂😂😂 as long as you let your customer know and they are ok with having a NON EDIBLE but NON TOXIC stuff on their cake as decoration then go for it... 💁♀️💁♀️
Please make the passion fruit curd! Your cake is beautiful by the way!🙌🏾
Thank you I did check out the description box 😘
The Gold dust you are using IS INEDIBLE....it is really pretty but YOU CAN NOT GIVE THIS TO PEOPLE TO CONSUME. !!
Oshin Garcia hi love thank you for pointing that out. Yes I do know that. It is not going to be consumed for 2 reasons. 1. It is not on the entire cake so people can eat around it. 2. My client KNOWS about it and KNOWS it's not EDIBLE only NON TOXIC which means it WON'T poison them IF they do happen to inject it. Therefore it is HER responsibility to warn her guests of this as stated in the CONTRACT she signed before ordering the cake. There are now edible versions of that gold dust that anyone watching this video is free to research, purchase and use if they prefer. At the time that I recorded this video there were not or maybe not as many available. so I used that dust which gave me the prettiest effect in my opinion... thank you for your concern however yes I know that dust isnt edible but for a drip design to me it isn't the end of the day especially if you WARN your customer and they are ok with letting their guests know to eat around the icing 🤷🏾♀️
Can use in tier cake base? Or butter paper?
Are all lustre dust inedible? ?I always thought that it's non toxic and we can eat
No I think there are some that are edible now... the one I'm using is not edible... what they explain is that edible means it will digest in your system non toxic means it wont poison you but you won't digest it itll just go through you.... hope that helps 😁
Great idea with the parchment paper!
Twana Burgess thank you 🤗🤗 I always hated when that happened... lol such a waste of good icing!!
Hello Janie, beautiful made cake, looks so tempting and delicious. The gold drip looks gorgeous, thank you for showing how to do this 👍
The Tortilla Channel aww thank you love 😘😘😘 I'm glad you liked the vid 🤗
Hi cant seem to find the tutorial of the buttercream can you send please reply the link to me ? Thank you and you are incredibly awesome everything looks perfect 👌🏼 and i love it 🥰
Very nice and easy as usual waouh !
I love it. Good job Jenny.
Greetings from Paris😋
Thank you for the compliment 🤗 I appreciate it 😘😘
Nice work love! This is simpler than it looks. I'm just beginning. You guys really know how to decorate. Where did you get that knife that you evened out the cake layers with and the bench scraper? I need both of those.
Sakari Bearden thank you for the compliment... 😘 I got the knife from shoprite my local grocery store and the scrapper from Amazon
Thanks love! I'm inspired. I'm going to try to make a cake similar to this one. I have a Wilton scraper. But I think the edges are too thick. I tried using it and the icing didn't have a smooth finish. So, I'm going to buy a scraper like the one you have.
Sakari Bearden nice!!!! Good luck with the cake... let me know how it turns out 😘
Hi Janie, on the 2nd tier did have a cake board underneath or it was just the parchment paper please respond back because just last week while taking my iced cake of my lazy Susan it stuck and messed up my cake at the bottom because of the icing sticking
Hey there… there’s a cake board under the cake but I add the parchement paper as well…

If you’re painting a ganache drip gold, does it have to be white chocolate ganache, or can it be a standard semisweet chocolate ganache?
No you can paint over the darker chocolate it will be a darker shade of gold that's all
Cn we apply gold drips on whipped cream cake?
I’ve never tried but I don’t see why not 🤷🏽♀️
What is everclear?
Why would you decorate cakes with inedible gold dust? Don't people eat those cakes??
Clarissa Helman for the same reasons why you would decorate a cake with rhinestones, fresh flowers, pearls, or anything else... IT LOOKS GOOD... not to mention it's a trend that's all over the internet and everyone sees it and asks for it... The cake is not entirely covered in it and i didnt mix it into the batter or the icing so you can EAT AROUND IT... on top of it it's NOT TOXIC so it won't kill you if you do decide to eat it... which I don't see why anyone would if you tell them IN ADVANCE what it's there for.... seriously you guys kill me with this question... some people act like I just added rat poison to the cake... 😂😂😂
Look, I get it. I decorate a lot of cakes. You don't need to be rude about it though. Just offer a non-toxic option if you're so tired of people saying this and bringing it up. I'll continue my research elsewhere. On another note, your cake is very beautiful, thank you for the inspiration, keep up the good work. I hope you have a nice week.
Clarissa Helman I'm sorry if I sounded rude in my response... its probably because of the caps... sounds like I'm yelling but its a long message and I want to draw the attention to those words... nothing personal... other people will probably read it and i wanted to make sure I was being as CLEAR as possible... and thank you for the compliment 😘 btw this is a non toxic option... most gold dust is NOT EDIBLE means it's not made from a food as in it won't break down in your system as stuff that your body recognises like protein, carb, mineral etc.... But they are NON TOXIC which means it's not poisonous to your body and therefore won't hurt you if you happen to eat some of it... It's confusing but unless you are using petal dust which is made from a door and therefore considered edible there isn't very much out there when it comes to lustre or disco dust that is EDIBLE just NON TOXIC...
Janie's Sweets your cake is beautiful. The gold dust you used on your cake is For decorating flowers and things that are to be removed before eating. There are edible gold dust options. It's dangerous to post a video using non- edible gold dust on the cake. Even if it says non-toxic. You are talented and should use your talent responsibly.
Angela G thanks love... What edible dust do you use? I've used every single one of them on the market (still have em in my cupbard lol) but the edible kind Isn't as shinny i find... so i use it on things that will cover the entire cake like if they want a whole tier in gold or silver... and I use that one when I'm doing a drip design cuz I tell them to eat around it... let me know which one you use cuz that would really help me 😚
Passion fruit filling please
Susan Coffey hey boo.. thanks for the request... I did a video on it... check out the link in the description box
How did you get that gold color on the white chocolate?
I used divine specialties listed dust

I used my easy meringue buttercream I have a video for it in my recipe playlist
What is the name of the paper and the driping
It’s parsimony paper and the drips are white chocolate ganash

Hi, what brand of white chocolate and heavy cream do you use? Could you name the specific brands because I always have trouble with white chocolate drip. Thanks!
Deema Bakleh hi love the chocolate I use is nestle white chocolate chips and the heavy cream is the store brand (shoprite) hope that helps 😘
Can u plz share the gold color’s link and procedure to make it
Hi it’s by the brand divine specialties it’s very easy to make just add alcohol (any clear alcohol ) to the powder until you form a paste and there you go
@@JaniesSweets thanks
What’s the substitute for alcohol?

Hi! For the ganache gold drip... Do you use white choc candy melts or regular white choc callets/chips?

LINDA PRIETO hi 👋 I have a video on it it’s in my recipe playlist
The gold highlighter dust shows to be non-edible from the website...
Highlighter dust is non toxic but non edible... I explain more in the description box
Question. After you poured chocolate do you put it in the fridge to dry or at room temperature?
Kuddos Kiddos it will dry at room temp especially if the cake itself is already cold... but if you want it to dry super fast you can pop it in the fridge... hope that helps 😘
Can I use whipped cream instead of butter cream?
Maria Ella Tabo you can if you want to but know that whipped cream isn't as stable as buttercream and you might not get the same results...
Can kids eat this cake?
sing alarm I wouldn’t recommend it because of the gold however they now make edible gold so if you use that yes😋

You didn't take the parchment paper off.
No I didn't... i talk about this in a few of my videos... that's something I always do in all my tiered cakes that are buttercream so that the top tier doesnt come off with the buttercream...

This video is misleading. I think it’s dangerous to use an inedible gold in this tutorial. Someone not paying close attention may not realize that you can’t eat it. That added to the fact that it’s flammable means a birthday cake with candles could be a disaster. If this cake is just for looks, why actually make a cake in the video? Maybe use a styrofoam or cardboard?
Amber Jones you're very right... someone not paying close attention will eat it... i just assumed at this point with everything that has been said about gold dust people at this point know there are options and they can use whichever dust they want this just happens to be the one I like 🤷🏾♀️... which I know is inedible... however I think saying the video is misleading is a reach dont you think? I never said it was edible ANYWHERE in the video... and as long as I've been making these cakes I've never had one catch on fire yet lol so idk how birthday candles would cause this to catch on fire but ok if you say so I'll take your word for it... 🤷🏾♀️ and I didnt use a foam because the person I was making it for wanted a cake... and I explained to them what they were getting and what they should be doing with it so there was no issue there...
cake recipe please it looks beautiful

Thank you for your talent I want to use edible gold dust can I use with water ?? And how long will get to dry
noorjehan abdulla I think you have to use vodka or lemon extract with the luster dusts because water will take a long time to evaporate and dry
Janie's Sweets thank you for your idea 😊
Why would you use non edible dust ?
Sandra Dottin back when I made this cake there was no such thing as edible dust only non toxic now they make some great ones so you can easily substitute it 😉 I always told my guests that they shouldn’t eat it and just eat around it... some people cared and scraped the design all together others didn’t and just told their guests not to eat the actual gold part. Hi, how long does it take for the ganache to be firm? I can't find this information anywhere
It depends if your cake is cold if your room is warm and humid if you pop it in the fridge or not... so anywhere between a couple minutes (cold temp) and a couple hours (hot temp)
@@JaniesSweets thank you, I think the gold edible pain I have is the wrong kind, it was removing the ganache and not properly applying

TU SALUD you can find the gold dust linked in the description box... and no it is not edible only non toxic... what I do when I use it on anything is I tell the client what it is and tell them to make sure they tell their guests to eat around around it... if you're dropping it on fondant for example it's usually better cuz most people eat the cake n icing inside n never eat the fo ndant anyway... but yes make sure to tell your client just in case someone does decide they want to eat it at least they have been warned lol... good luck

Love! I've tried many times to get my gold to look like that and no matter what I do it's never smooth and thick enough. I've been using luster dust. What brand do you use? Gorgeous cake as always. Thanks for sharing!
kristen leigh thanks love... I use divine specialties gold and I add verry little alcohol to dilute it... You do have to be careful with that stuff though I wouldn't cover an ENTIRE cake with it as it's technically not EDIBLE it's just non toxic... meaning it won't kill you but for people with sensitive stomachs it might make them verry sick if they eat a lot of it... so only apply on stuff that the customer doesn't necessarily have to eat they can just kinda push to the side... hope it helps 😘
