I heard, or read, somewhere that Norman Reedus wanted the role of Merle (his brother, not sure how to spell that name) but that role had already been casted. They liked him so much in the audision that they made a new character for him, Daryl Dixon.

The one thing I have to say about the character of Daryl, which I love...He is not only the strongest character, he spreads his strength to everyone around him, everyone he meets. Gotta love Daryl. Such a tortured soul. If the title “the walking dead” is meant to be a paradox referring to the surviving few as the walking dead after society has fallen, then it’s no surprise why Daryl adapted so quickly to the new ways of the world and the new lack of rules and morality among the living. A part of Daryl had been dead long before the zombies ever took over from his horrific childhood. And now after surviving decades since society collapsed he still walks alone as a nomadic traveler. Daryl to me always seemed like someone who was so scared to die that he forced himself to survive even though he fully knew that continuing to survive would only mean more pain and suffering. Despite death being a release from all the pain he’s suffered it just wasn’t an option for him. And still there he is. Surviving and for long periods of time alone
I loved how the video started with : "By the time I'm done everyone you love will be dead" and it ends with Daryl approaching to a grave and saying: "Nothing can take the place of someone you love being gone". I loved the whole of it...the song is one my all time fav ones and your work on Daryl was amazing as usual! Loved it!
He's the last man standing. He has lost almost everyone he started out with and now he's doing his best to look after his brothers (Glenn and Rick) family's and the group they left behind
I definitely get the vibe that Daryl is looking out for the group because that's what his brother left behind and he cares about that, but he essentially disappeared for 6 years and lived on his own (and with Leah for a bit), showing that he doesn't actually belong there. He belonged with Rick and his family, not Alexandria or any of the other communities. Now the only person left he truly cares about and understands him is Carol... I also think Michonne fell into this category before she left, as she has known Daryl long before Alexandria too (and I think they bounded over losing Rick). And perhaps an unpopular opinion but I think Aaron understands Daryl too, maybe not to the extent Carol does, but Aaron has always seen something more than just what's on the surface when it comes to daryl. It's a shame honestly that they didn't get much screen time together after s5, I loved the two of them together 😅

Daryl's biggest strength is his heart. I know that sounds cliche but it's true. He cares deeply about his family and the show has always done a good job showing us this through his actions and his reactions. Also God help you if you hurt his family, because he will hunt you to the ends of the earth and he will make you regret crossing him.

"the last man standing...." seeing him and beth again awoke some feelings in me i thought i buried a long time ago....i believe that was the biggest thing that changed him was that entire storyline with her and her death because during that time he finally became vulnerable for the first time in a long time and wasnt judged or hurt for it she was there for him and he realized that its ok to be human in this insane world......only for her to die right in front of him that lesson is showing in nearly every season later on thats why he never ever stops fighting because he would rather die than lose someone else like that.......Daryl Dixon the only angel left in an apocalypse............

seeing him and beth again awoke some feelings in me i thought i buried a long time ago....i believe that was the biggest thing that changed him was that entire storyline with her and her death because during that time he finally became vulnerable for the first time in a long time and wasnt judged or hurt for it she was there for him and he realized that its ok to be human in this insane world......only for her to die right in front of him that lesson is showing in nearly every season later on thats why he never ever stops fighting because he would rather die than lose someone else like that.......Daryl Dixon the only angel left in an apocalypse............
