By watching this build earlier, you inspired me to build a 28 x 40 pole barn with a lot of your features. I even built my own trusses. Turned out great!
I just wanted to mention after a long time, I managed to lose a whole 10 pounds from 228 thanks to you. I haven't been this weight for over 20 years. If I can get down to 180 I'll be happy.
Watching another great build! Always enjoy your professionalism on display. God has blessed you with a wonderful talent and the ability to show others how you do your work. Take care and look forward to another great video.
I need this done at my house. Wish I could hire you but I'm all the way in San Diego California. Anyway, great job, we enjoy your videos, keep posting!
Great building skills Ken. But we know by now not to expect it any other way! I didn’t catch why the used concrete blocks and not just longer sticks. Thanks much for sharing this video!
Suggestion for new episodes: Check with your former customers and see if any of them would be willing film the building today. Ken then run an edited version of the construction of said garage with follow-up of what it's like today.
Great to see you do the excavating for the site too with the mini-excavator! I liked how you did the slanted apron in the front Ken. First time I've seen you put a row of blocks down. I didn't notice how you anchored the sill plate above the blocks. You mentioned you were going to drill. Is that how you did it? The ladder hoist sure came in handy on this build. That gambrel roof I haven't seen before either. The view there is amazing! That was a really windy day when you put up the upstairs walls! Just you and Chad on this build with a bit of help from Lauren. I like the flare outs. You even built your own trusses on this job! I'm surprised the owner didn't put in more windows. Wow, fast forward on the tri-flex and metal roof installation. Thanks for showing the steps up to the studio being put in. I haven't seen you put in stress relief cuts into any of your slabs before either. Wow, T-111 all installed and then painting too. How did you vent the flare out? A few holes in the soffit? That was interesting build Ken! Very impressive! That was an intense time lapse. Three weeks in half an hour! Thanks for this Ken!
@Kens Karpentry I'm limited to a 200 square foot building without permits. I'm thinking a 12x16 . I'd like to build the one in this video but within the 200 Sq ft. Would you happen to be selling plans for this build?.. V/R, Daniel Foxworthy.
Thank you Ken and family, that is one really cool garage and an excellent little house on top, I want one, though my boat would be on one side and my RTV on the other, I would want my one beside the sea and a slip so my boat can slide right in, would that structure stand up to storms from the sea I wonder, but thank you once again Ken for an excellent video.
Great job Ken and family. You make me miss framing with every video! Quick question. What, if any cost difference would it be to mirror the 2nd story and make it full size with 8ft walls and a standard gable roof , say like a 6/12?
Ken, those side flare outs are a nice feature. I'd like to add them to my What's the overhang length and do you align them with each rafter? Also, what angle did you cut the flare out? Is it the same as the upper rafter angle?
You truely are the Bob Ross of construction, I love watching! Just a quick question, the prices in your titles are those your cost or the charge to the client?
@@kenskarpentry really wish you guys were in central Ohio. That being said I'm in a pretty low cost of living state...after watching your video on pricing trends of raw materials I plan on waiting 2-3 more months to hope concrete, etc. drops a bit more in line with rising interest rates and then I'll be putting out some garage + option for apartment solicitations myself! Thanks for your great videos; they've really helped me come up with a plan and have helped me with articulating what I'm looking for!
Hello Ken. I very much enjoy your garage builds. I have a 26X26 Gambrel just as you built in this video, but you used better quality products. The property I purchased in 2019 came with this Gambrel. I'm really struggling to find a concept where a 26X26 Gambrel has been been expanded. My lower walls are only 8ft high which poses a problem in getting taller equipment into my shop. I need to double or even triple the length. My gambrel has excellent concrete footing and poured floor, but the gambrel design does not appear to lend to adding on to create more space. If you have any examples of a Gambrel being lengthened or where an extension with higher walls were added, I'd love to see them. I'd rather add on then have another separate out building (Pole barn) on the property. Thank you sir.
Thank you for the video Ken. By watching this video I can tell you're nothing but muscle. That's why when you get on the scale it doesn't seem to go down much. Cuz you're really not losing muscle LOL
Good morning Ken Do you have a catalog of garages that are available for viewing. Plan on building a garage in the near future and am looking for a design for a 3 car garage with possible living space above down the road. Thank you in advance. Mark
I understand most of your structures are intended primarily as garages, but it seems quite a few also double as living spaces. So I would expect more 2 x 6 construction, especially in your area. Just wondering why more of your structures are not 2 x 6 construction. God bless, stay well.
@@kenskarpentry ... I should have clarified that. I meant to say "the ones that do get insulated would be spray foamed" ... anyway, that seems to be the trend for ones with occupied space.
Are those wall studs on 2 ft centers ??? say it isnt so Ken, must be an illusion with the video...I guess the upstairs walls are really just part of the rafters ???
Family carpenters. That was a great time. Thanks for sharing.
Good morning

Wow that’s awesome!
I like that creative use of scrap T-111 with a handle to mask off as you spray paint!
Thanks that was Chad’s idea.
“This Old Garage” Ken don’t change a thing! Great work and Great Video
Haha thanks

I admire how you keep your sense of humor even when things don't go perfect on the first go.
Thanks for getting this one up.
Always good to see someone that takes pride in their work.
Glad you enjoyed it

Thanks. It’s really built for Vermont climate
It surprises me that ken is already 70
And still doing such heavy job
Lot of respect
Can you leave over thé Company to the kids?
Gambrel style are my favorite
Nice
Paper binding clips or chip clips would help you when gluing your walls together
❤️this build the view is 👍...all in a day's work😁
It sure is. Thanks
Another great job Ken! What were the roof pitches used on this one?
The upper roof was 22.5 degrees and the steeper roof was 67.5 degrees
Wondering why you switched from OSB sheathing on the lower walls to plywood on the Gambril roof wall.
Ken, sure wish you did jobs a little farther away (NY) as I would hire you in a minute!
Great job Ken and family. You make me miss framing with every video! Quick question. What, if any cost difference would it be to mirror the 2nd story and make it full size with 8ft walls and a standard gable roof , say like a 6/12?
Probably add 15-20 percent

22” overhang aligned with each rafter and same angle as the upper roof
I ❤IT!!!!
What protection would you recommend after painting?
Grossartiges Video 👍
Thanks
Thank you for these very informative videos, was the gravel base compacted in any way other than with the excavator?
Yes
Morning ken
Good morning
Why do you put plastic down before rebar? Is there a benefit to doing it that way vs no plastic? Love watching your work and videos, great work guys!
To stop moisture from coming up through the ground
Like to have that drawing. Especially the second floor
Sorry we don’t have formal plans
@@kenskarpentry thanks anyway. But I sure enjoy your videos.
Since there is an option for a loft, did you put in plumbing lines, I didn’t see any?
No we didn’t
Hi Ken. What spray gun do you use to apply paint ? Another great video.
It’s Graco I believe
I wondered as well. Good question.
You make it look so easy anyone can do it. Lol just got to make it square the whole time
Thanks. Yes for sure
Love your videos. Do you guys make mugs or Tshirts
We have a few t shirts and hoodies left on our website. Thanks for asking

To the client

really cool. How much was the wood material in total?
Hmm I’m not sure
I don't think that I've seen you do expansion joints?
12:35 ah she smart. Nothing for free! Especially in the trades. The second you show weakness, you’ll be taken advantage of.
Haha

WOW even though it looks level it's off by a few feet... 👍
Strange isn’t it
Ken I have an idea for a Video How us dummies/me how to use that transit? why the 1 row of blocks and no provision for water sewer in concrete floor ?
So is Lyndonville hardware a good one?
It is

is this current pricing updated, because originally you listed this cost at 42000.
It’s current and also included the excavation costs

I see it now! 😉

Looks like the price has doubled since you built this a few years ago.
This also included the excavation costs as well as cost increases

If you have been watching for a while, most are spray foamed and that's only 2-3 inches thick.
I would say 95 percent of the time they’re not insulated.

16” center downstairs 24” upstairs
Из дома, будет прекрасный вид.
Yes there will
No big Dan in this build?
Not on this one
i'm building a 40x60 gambrel, i been recording some of it my camera dies after an hour an half lol.
Haha sounds familiar
1:52 knows just when to plug his ears

I build a two story 24 by 36 home
Ken, the "wife" feels uncomplete when you end the video without showing the pretty part.

Not liking the carport..
The young lady could use a pair of gloves. Wouldn't want a splinter to ruin her day.
Haha
