I think the most exciting part of having a new aviary is buying the birds and introducing them to the aviary. Selecting the species, picking the most beautiful of each and meeting new breeders. Then when they all fly into the aviary and start exploring. It is so cute
Nice aviary mate. Im from Northern Australia and The owl finches you refer to are called Double Bars in Australia. My father used to travel around the district trapping finches and we had huge aviaries in our back yard. Some of the favourite ones we had where Black throated finch, Firetails, Blood Finch, Bull Finch, Star Finch .
Congratulations for the opening of your new aviary! The birds have excellent conditions and they quickly relaxed and started exploring their habitat. The sun is part of this successful recipe!
My dream is to have an aviary like yours. When I move to the UK want to build one. I have already decided the species I would like: Finches: Gouldian, Strawberry, Parrot, Owl, Orange Bishop weavers, and Purple Grenadier (or swap one of these for Lavander finch). Also, Splendid Parakeets, and Blue Crowned Hanging Parrots. Roul Roul partridge on the ground, and a pair of zebra doves and red whiskered bulbul. I hope all these should get alone OK and not kill each other LOL. Oh, and I forgot, also a yellow canary!!!
In my other video you can see how I build this aviary : ruclips.net/video/ji0kSTzuN9Y/видео.html If you like finches, check out my store now and choose your favorite design: mr-aviary.creator-spring.com/
4.46 put more perches up in that corner and make good use of the room you have , finches like to fly from one perch to another , they wont get to make use of that part of the aviary if theres nothing to land on = waste of room .
A friend set up several swings in her aviary and the birds loved them. Her beautiful natural looking aviary was in her farm house along one wall and when she had music playing the birds appeared to be swinging to the beat of the music. Your aviary is lovely and well thought out. I am sure the birds will thrive in there.
I really like the natural aviary you have made. The indoor area you have attached to your aviary are the birds able to fly freely in and out I used to have a set up similar in Scotland which had a small heater in the inside area and the birds where able to fly in and out their nest boxes and food was in the inside area .
Hope the weather is warm where you live, as Gouldians are not hardy, and have no down feathers due to their evolution in a hot climate. They will need perches out of the draft of open aviary panels, and a heat source if your temp falls below 10 degrees C. They are susceptible to bacterial infections, and should not have access to earth floors in their aviary. I have kept and bred these birds for years and they are not a beginners finch. Good luck with the new aviary though.
In the winter they move to their breeding cages indoors, plus these finches are bred in a cold climate for multiple generations so they are a little bit harder than in other climates. I always have had gouldian finches with an earth floor never had any problems, same for my friends. But thanks for the tip I will keep an eye on it.
Those finches are the ones who rarely raise their young. I also like to make a large cage for Society finches as they don't require much attention and easy to take care and multiply fast. lol!
@@MrAviary I really did enjoy it, and it kept reminding me of The Life of Pi. First, because of the pleasant and infectious music but also because of your measured and informative narration. I am interested because I am in the process of setting up a chicken coop and run, but would like to give it some of the qualities such as those yours displays such that it becomes a true aviary. I am in the northeastern United States which adds certain challenges related to weather. Time will tell. This is my first flock.
Yes, I have had canaries and finches together. If the aviary is big enough so they can get away from each other should be fine. Always have a watchful I during breeding season some finches and canaries can get a little aggressive
@@MrAviary The one I'm making runs 33' feet behind my shop. Figured it would be a nice cool location as my shop has a good hang over and extremely large italian cypress trees close together creating tons of shaded areas for the birds to retreat if needed. I only started second guessing myself though for my neighbors sake being that I'm in a city location not more than 20' feet from my neighbor and worried about how loud the birds may be. This all started with thinking of having chickens but didn't want the loud noise. I've been breeding fish for decades and just recently got into wanting to try birds. I'm assuming canaries are far more noisy than finches though right?

Thanks, and stay happy and always love your birds
I love the way you have made your aviary as natural as possible. You have given me encouragement to build my own. Cheers!
Thanks, you should make one yourself it is amazing.

Good luck with your birds. They are beautiful and will be happy with a well built flight aviary.
Very fine Aviary to walk in is the way to go! I like all planted up but I am into budgies but am considering to make one Aviary with a revolving door.
Plant and budgies are not always go togheter. They really like to nibble on the plants. Never seen an aviary with a revolving door, very curious.
Hello my friend. Great to see so many Aussie finches there.
Yes I really love the australian finches, one day I hope to see them in the wild

True, they already have more branches but you need to have flying space and make sure that the plant will not be covered with poop

Where did you get the branches? the aviary looks great.
I just collected some fallen branches from the forest or from recent prune activities.
Can you help me please, what kind of bush do you use in the aviary? I'm not sure, which is good for quails, which plants and bushes are safe?
I Mostly use grass species and coniferous species , pick the most sturdy ones and you will be fine
Thumbnail is hilarious😂
