The girl saying '' No way '' is Catherine of Aragon the first Queen to introduce herself in '' Ex Wives '' and the wives are the 6 wives of Henry the eighth :)
This musical is basically the Six Wives of King Henry VIII having a competition about who had to deal with the most bs from their husband. They each get one song to talk about their lives from their perspective + 2 songs together at the start and end (‘Ex-Wives’ the one who just listened to and ‘SIX’ the ending song) and one intermission song. “No Way” was the song of the 1st wife Catherine of Aragon. You should listen to them in order to understand the plot and also listen to the dialogue to really get the transitions through the songs, and they’re also really funny 😂
Not totally fair. At school, I did three years of history. The first year was politics from 1918 to 1941 (starting with the Treaty of Versailles and ending with Pearl Harbour) and Black Civil Rights, meaning even later. The second year was mostly the Russian Revolution, same century. The third year was all nineteenth-century, but exclusively in New Zealand. The saddest thing is, the history classes in my last year of school could choose to teach the Tudors or nineteenth-century New Zealand, and my school consciously chose to be patriotic instead of interesting.
@@strawberrysoulforever8336that’s interesting. You should be learning history from elementary school all the way to graduation. The most notable is of course middle & high school. I’m pretty sure we learn about Hamilton in middle school. I believe most schools choose to be patriotic rather than interesting lol
@MxSae We only did New Zealand in elementary school. Middle school had Humanities, which is a mix of history, geography and social studies. We did a few different eras, but it was all disorganized, stuff about tourism, immigration, kids in crisis, ancient civilizations, etc. I never really got a handle on geography but I wasn't bad at some of the history. But it wasn't until Year 11 (sophomore year) that you could do history only as a subject.
SIX is about the wives of King Henry VIII. 'Divorced, Beheaded, Died, Divorced, Beheaded, Survived' is the rhyme to remember the order of them. He had so many wives cause he was trying to have a male heir and just. Couldn't. And figured the problem was them. The quick run down of them. -Catherine of Aragon - Divorced - she gave him a daughter (Mary, better known as "Bloody Mary") (you reacted to her song, "No Way") -Anne Boleyn - Beheaded - he divorced Catherine of Aragon for her, leading to the creation of the Church of England (b/c prior to that divorce was not a thing b/c catholic). she was accused of, among other things, adultery and treason and beheaded for these reasons (side note, she was the mother of Queen Elizabeth I) -Jane Seymour - Died - died about two weeks after her son (Edward I) was born due to childbirth complications. -Anne of Cleves - Divorced - like the song said he claimed she 'didn't look like her pic' and divorced her -Catherine Howard - Beheaded - accused of adultery, tho uh, there are conflicting reports on if this is true or not (her song is All You Wanna Do and, you'll understand) Also she was the youngest one at 19 when she was executed. -Catherine Parr - Survived - rather self explanatory, she out lived him.
@@strawberrysoulforever8336 Honestly? Probably to try and have more as back up. This was the 1500's, there was NO guarantee the kid was gonna make it to teenage years, let alone grow up. As it stands, the boy only lived to the ripe old age of. 15.
@@SpiderRiderKya And yet he still made it to kinghood. The only one of his three to hang onto the throne for very long was Elizabeth. It's true that his first two wives had stillbirths and sons that died within days.
@@strawberrysoulforever8336 Yes, but they couldn't know that. Infant mortality was very high back then, so having lots of kids was generally the done thing. And for royals, lots of boys. Not just to sit on the throne of England but on thrones of other countries ruled by the British Empire. And again, he only lived to 15, that's still pretty young. And they(and he) sure did their damndest to prevent his sisters from taking the throne too. He had one yes, but needed more just in case.
Fun fact: The instrumental in ex wives is a remix of greensleves; a very famous piece of music from the Tudor era It's believed that it was written by Henry VIII for his second wife,Anne Boleyn; hence the line 'my sleeves may be green, but my lipstick's red'
"But married to who?" That would be ol' King Henry VIII. He's pretty much the most famous King of England of all history. You might know him from the pictures of the big...let's just say it...fat king with the red hair from the late 1400s to early 1500's. Father to Edward VI, Mary I (known not totally fairly as Bloody Mary), and Elizabeth I, also known as the Virgin Queen or Gloriana, the most famous Queen of England in all of history. As for his wives, Henry was married to Catherine of Aragon until he divorced her to marry Anne Boleyn, who he then later executed. Then he married Jane Seymour, who died due to what they called "childbed fever" back then, after giving birth to his only legitimate son, Edward. Then he married Anne of Cleves, but couldn't consummate the wedding with her (his fault, but he claimed it was because she was uglier than the portrait he was sent), so he divorced her and because she didn't put up a huge fuss and fight over it like Catherine of Aragon, he gave her an incredibly lavish settlement which meant she could live how she wanted for the rest of her life. Then Henry went for the wayy too young Catherine Howard, who was only 17 at the time of their wedding. Unlike Anne Boleyn, the accusations towards her of adultery were not lies, and when she was found guilty, she was also beheaded like her cousin (Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard were first cousins). And then, at the end, he married wealthy widow Catherine Parr, and she's listed as "survived" because Henry died before she did. She didn't long survive him, however, and died of the same childbed fever that Jane Seymour did after she had married a new husband and gave him a daughter.
Yeeeeah, he kept marrying new wives because 1) it was the duty of the King to father a male heir and 2) he was *obsessed* with keeping the Tudor dynasty going. Even when Jane Seymour gave him the son he was desperate for, he kept marrying women so that he could get a second son to have the traditional "the heir and the spare". He never did get that second legitimate son, but he did get two formidable daughters that were eventually put into the line of succession behind Edward VI. Sadly, Edward died young of tuberculosis at 17. Then Mary became queen and died after only a few years from cancer, as she was a lot older than her two siblings. And thennn...Elizabeth came to the throne and lived to be almost 70 years old and led the country to something of a golden age. It's kind of cool how the child that looks the most like Henry (though she wasn't nearly as fat as him, but she had the red hair and the facial features, but her mother Anne Boleyn's dark eyes), and who for some reason worshipped her father the most, became the most successful of Henry's kids. ....and yes, I'm rambling. I'm a history nerd, and 9th to 17th century British history is my JAM.
If you react to a live performance, the one with sam pauly live singing all you wanna do is one of the most powerful songs ive ever heard and always makes me tear up how well she acts during it to make it even more intense while being a killer bop
You should continue with this musical. So...the story is basically each of King Henry VIII's six wives. He married Catherine of Aragon first, but then started his own church in order to be allowed to divorce her and marry Anne Boleyn. Then he got her on a charge of treason and beheaded her. Jane Seymour, as it mentioned, died in childbirth, then Anne of Cleves was only married to him for about a month, but lived comfortably in her own quarters as the "King's sister" for most of her life. Catherine Howard, who was a teenager, was also beheaded for treason, but I think in both cases, they just cheated on their husband. Katherine Parr was left behind by Henry, while Edward became the next king, quickly dying and being replaced by his older half-sister Mary, who also didn't last long. The descendant who lived the longest was actually Anne Boleyn's daughter, Queen Elizabeth the First. And of course, her reign was named Elizabethan after her.

Henry VIII, the famous Tudor king, mostly famous because of his six wives. Basically it seems he had six wives because he was desperate for a son. Lots of historical drama and scandal, such as creating a whole new religion just to divorce his first wife, Catherine Aragon. Kind of funny that he was so desperate for a son to carry on the Tudor family line, when in the end the Tudor dynasty ended because none of his successors had any kids. Edward, (his only son, who inherited the throne at 9 and died at 16) Mary, (known as Bloody Mary because she kept killing Protestants as she was intensely Catholic), and Elizabeth I, very famous both for her unusually long rule and the fact she never married. Anyways Henry was just generally a very unlikeable man, not least because he kept killing or divorcing his wives because they weren’t giving him kids soon enough. Kinda funny that he had six wives but he only had three kids in the end.
