    Nice video of the basics of the '595' IC, I just started playing with a couple 'em the other night that I'm going to use in a project that requires SIPO control.

    Thank you for the tutorial! Two things I collided with in executing this circuit:
    - if I touch the power lines (I had 5V from a laptop USB) the shift register goes nuts;
    - on fresh switches, is almost impossible to get a clean press without bouncing the contacts.
    So, what power source you used, and how you debounced your switches? Thank you very much!

      @peasantrobot 5 месяцев назад

      Never mind, I filtered the power with one 100uF and 100nF capacitors, and decoupled the I.C.s with an 100nF capacitor each. The bounce of the switches happened only rarely so it was workable. Enough to realize what I had in mind. Now, the manual inputs will be replaced by the outputs of an Arduino, to test some functions. Thank you anyway!

    Thank you for this nice video.
    I have a tricky question... It is not that much about cascading but about the proper internal shift register stage and the storage stage. I have this 74HC594 (not the 595) and what happens is that I tried to load the serial message in the internal shift register and only latch the whole register when I have finished to load all 8 bits. For some reason, it appears not to work and I can only load all bits by sending intermittently the shift register clock (SRCLK or SHCP) and then the storage clock (RCLK or STCP). I can't possibly figure out why.
    I use an Arduino to send data and pulses and a logic analyzer to observe the 74HC594 behaviour. I might have a different behaviour with a 595 but I don't have any for the moment. Thanks for any hint.

    Hello, I am trying two cascaded connection and inputs from FPGA and I have connected SRClk(11) and RClk(12) together in Vhdl and i am not seeing expected sequence
    could you please suggest is this the correct way?

    • @guillaume8437

      Hi. Apparently, we have a similar issue but I use the '594, not the '595. See if the description I sent above corresponds to the issue you have. I am still trying to figure out why.

    So if pin 9 on the third IC is connected to pin 14 on the first IC, and the diodes are placed in a circle, the lights would continue running around?
