A little tip we use in the toolroom... if you put a shop rag on your demagnetizer, you can slide things across it without worrying about scratching things. Great videos, thanks for all the reviews and info!
I believe in a previous video he mentions that if the parts (particularly the firing pin) are magnetic there's a chance it could pull shavings into the bolt and jam it up or otherwise -- that if it was NOT magnetic, would not be a potential problem -- so he always tries to demagnetize any of the BCG parts.
7K for a non premium bolt is`nt too bad in it`s self. How`s the barrel holding up? If you hav`nt already bought a cheap bore scope like lot of people have and start inspecting parts frequently even though you don`t know what to look for.
This is part of my lack of faith in these physicals. Everything could gauge out fine when new but that's no guarantee that the metallurgy is correct and that parts will last. I'm more interested in things like BFLV's experience where they have parts with 10k,20k,50k rounds on them. I'd rather buy something that's a little ugly at new but can go the distance.
Quick question, my LWRC BCG slides down about a millimeter or so when I stand it up on the bolt face. Is this normal or does that mean the rings are going? I have about 1.5k rounds through it and its been fantastic so far. One of my favorite features is the gas key is built into the carrier itself which gives me a little piece of mind.
I take it the firing pin gets magnatized because of the milling processing? If i dont have a demagnitizer can i just heat it up a bit in an oven. I know heating can help demag, but dont know if this would mess with the hardness of the pin.
Chad, I was curious about the gas key alignment test. When you test, the upper is upside down, would it make a difference if the upper was right side up? I imagine that the BCG would shift some. Would/could that cause an alignment issue to rear it's ugly head in some cases?
I’m new subscriber. And as a combat vet I appreciate the detail. And as a manual machinest I can also. With that said where can I get the gauges and tools you use?
@instructor chad, do you have an email address? I have a question about a new rifle I just bought and it has bad machining. Was thinking about sending it to you to find out what exactly is wrong .
@@michaelkuhle9866 I bought two. Both seem okay, one went in a A4 upper for a clone build/range fun gun. The other I just got for a spare, it was less expensive than buying all the parts separate. I think they will be fine.

Yours and Chris Bartocci / SAS are my favorite channels. Freaking awesome stuff man
I run their NiB BCG’s. For the money, I like them.
Awesome channel! Just subbed!
I'd like to see how an HK or POF 416 bcg with their roller cam, captive spring firing pin and special coating would test out under your scrutiny.
Great channel.
Could you check out a brownells BCG
Great video👍
Why do u use a demagnetizer exactly? Whats bad about things being magnetic? Genuinely curious

SynFuLLLz: oh ok, that makes sense now , thanks for the reply
Thanks. I was wondering as well.
My AIM bolt broke after 7,000 rounds ( not C158)and they sent me a new one free.

I have a couple brand new Aero BCGs if you wanna give one a physical.

What are the best BCG's you would recommend?
Bcm or geissele
Chad said SOLGW has never failed an autopsy
I hear toolcraft makes the aim surplus BCG's anyone know for sure?

Please let us know why magnetism is bad on BCG and BC parts?
If you are shooting steel case ammo, bits of steel can magnetically attach to the firing pin and get in the firing pin channel.

Would replacing the gas rings improve the gas efficiency even with the bolt body irregularities?
Do you have a preference on the 4 or 5 coil Sprinco ejector springs?
He likes the 5 coil

Brownells has the gages
I have one of their h4 bcg iv you would like to look at one just ask

What gauge is used to check the extractor grove?
Out of curiosity, Why don't we want the firing pin magnetic?
GiveMeThatCake if I’m not mistaken, the primer could possibly stick to it and cause problems.
When we run steel case ammo the steel debris can stick onto it and cause problems later on.
I just bought one today, a nitride one for 55 bucks. For that price it is very worth it. Thanks!
How is it ?
