No, you muppet - copy_from_user() might be 2.6% faster, but your system doesn't spend much time running that code! It won't make everything 2.6% faster.

Just how many penguins can we save by optimizing Linux?

What I love about Linux is that these people try to optimize the smallest things to get just a little more performance. Yes, we have the problem that most softwars is written for windows, but the OS itself is superior.

@iloveblender8999 If so superior... why no market penetration? Flaccid?

its not as scary as it sounds and even if it does just spend 50 dollars on a raspberry pi and it'll be done

I wasn't even aware of this, thanks for letting us know; glad Linux is getting more efficient. 2.6% still will mean a lot for the Data Center and the reduce energy being wasted will help the environment.

I absolutely love Linus's chaotic energy. Every programmer has hated their colleagues, looked at a codebase and said "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?", had their colleague ensure their code meets test coverage requirements ("BULLSHIT!"). We're told to keep these thoughts private, but the man lives to code. He gets so worked up (and arguably toxic) in communications about code in the kernel because he GENUINELY cares about every piece of code that ends up in the kernel. When I use Linux, which I do exclusively, I am the direct benefactor of Linus's hazing of lazy (but nonetheless talented) developers behind the scenes.

to be fair, he only cares about what he can understand, as he said in a few interviews, don't matter what he see as weird in the network code, he trust the maintainer that he's doing the best
