I know it’s expensive for what it is but I’ve just ordered one, think it’s such a clever, simple idea that gives enough of a mental nudge to use my phone more intentionally. Will be deeply annoyed if they introduce subscription pricing on top of £54 for an NFC tag. Tried dumb phone but need nav for driving, a smartphone for work, and couldn’t make the full switch. Hopefully this does the job.

To check which apps will be unblocked by default when using Brick, go to Settings->Screen Time->Always Allowed."

From their FAQ: "Out of the box, you are able to turn off Screen Time access for Brick in your settings, however the app will be able to detect when this has been done and count it as the use of an emergency unbrick. For those who would like to block this option entirely, you can set up an automation within the Shortcuts app that makes the Settings app unopenable while Bricked."

Ok, I like this concept. My biggest probably with any app I tried was that I could simply uninstall the app. It was the ultimate power. I like the idea because you can not only physically separate yourself from the power to undo, but there are repercussions to deleting the app. The ultimate power now comes with hurt, which makes it officially useful. It will still be useless to android users at the moment though.

I think it depends on how extensively you brick your phone. I got mine and still leave access messages, maps, banking apps, etc. Those are quality of life improvements and tools that I would need in an emergency and that I use without excess. There isn't a situation like you described (transitioning between tasks without the brick) that would leave me in a situation where my phone was "useless". Even if you blocked everything, why not just sit in the coffee shop and enjoy your drink?

I tried it out on my Iphone to block the safari app, so that I don‘t browse on the internet. The instruction to block it works. The problem is, there is a way to overcome this block from brick. Shut down your Iphone, switch it on and now one has about 2 min to get in the safari app. Once I‘m in the safari app, I can browse as much as I want to! It‘s only by leaving the safari app that Brick gets activated, so that trying to re-enter safari won‘t work. So just shutdown, switch on, use the 2 min window and have unlimited internetplaytime. I hope they will fix that bug, so that there isnt a time-window to get in the safari app anymore. Does anyone have the same problem?
