Hey Ania! I leave you some ascii codes for windows users : ß ALT + 225 ä ALT + 132 Ä ALT + 142 ö ALT + 148 Ö ALT + 153 ü ALT + 129 Ü ALT + 154 ñ ALT + 164
And in some editors you must have the num lock on. For those that don't understand what Nelson is explaining, if you hold the alt key and type the numbers listed, then release the alt key, the special character is displayed.
Träumen, Ökologie, Bücher. Hello Ania! I'm Brazilian and I had already started in the german language. Some sounds are very difficult for us but you are making it easier. I have searched on youtube for many german courses and yours was the best!! Congrats!!
Alt Gr pressen und in der gleichen zeit das fragezeichen drücken, loslassen, und dann den gewünschten buchstabe drücken. Du bist eine tolle lehrerin! Bin dir dankbar
I´m brazilian and after having learnt a bit about english I got interested also in german; then I found your channel and got very happy because for me you´re great teacher and nice girl. Congratulation!
grün, Mädchen, Hören Danke Ania. Your channel is the best I can find for learning German. Thank you for making it clean and fun and easy to learn from.
Hi Ania , could you please do a video on difference between sounds of : a & ä , o & ö and u & ü , so that umlaut could be better understood. Thank You.
Thank you so much. This is very tricky, "aber ich übe gern" - hopefully, that's "but like to practise". Loved that I learnt a lot of new words as well. Thank you also for the keyboard tip for Macs. Have been using a Mac for about 20 years and never knew this!
For typing umlaut in Mac, there is another short cut. ü - Type 'Option' key and 'u' at the same time. It will show double dots only. Release both keys and press 'u' again ö - Type 'Option' key and 'u' at the same time, to get double dots. Release both keys and press 'o' again Ö - Type 'Option' key and 'u' at the same time, to get double dots. Release both keys and press 'o' again, with shift key pressed. ...
Hey, thank you thousand times! As a native speaker I never tought about this possibillity. It really will help a friend of mine who is learning german. 🥰
For the Ü sound, you make an O shape with your mouth but make an E (ee) sound. Works every time, especially for words like Bücher (books) with harder consonant sounds that follow it. It's like saying "you" with a rich Scottish accent but without the y, lol. Also, a good example of the long Ö sound is Österreich (Austria)
In Windows programs, you can push ctrl+shift+: then let go then press the vowel. In French it is called "accent trema." You can do somthing similar for accent ague ', accent grave `, and the tilde ~.
I've tried different German video lessons before, but I get to say that ur ones are really very interesting, thank you Ania , I'll follow this page, good luck teacher. :)
I use it all the time on Mac for "die umlaute" & "ß" little help @Anja. Its always and its even simpler Press [Long Press a + (and then numeral) 4 ] = ä, [ Long Press s & then press 1 = ß OR Option + s = ß] Similarly for [Long Press U + 2 = ü], Long Press o + 2 = ö. Now you dont have to think just press the umlaut letter on english keyboard long and then choose 2 for most & some cases 1 & 4 like ß & ä.
The very biggest deal I need on learning about umlats is the difference in pronunciation between wurde, war, hatte and its umlat cousins, since those words are used all the time in sentences.
On a mac it is faster to type alt and u at the same time and then a, o or u to get ä, ö or ü, respectively. On Windows 10 with United States - International Keyboard you type " and then a, o or u.
on a windows PC: set English (International) keyboard CTRL+ALT+P = ö CTRL+ALT+Y = ü CTRL+ALT+Q = ä Add SHIFT to each keypress for caps, IMO easier than remembering ALT codes Vielen Dank Anja, Tschüss!
For Windows and Linux, I recommend using keyboard input method. You can look this up on Google, but there are two I recommend. Use the English International and simply use alt gr+q for ä, alt gr+y for ü, and alt gr+p for ö. For German input method, ; changes to ö, ' to ä, and [ to ü. For capitals simply hold the shift key while doing either method.
Note that Chromebooks uses a Linux OS so the above methods work for them as well. For tablets, for the most part just press down and hold on the letter to augment.
Thank you very much for the video. Umlaute to type in English keyboard as below ä : Alt + 0228 ö : Alt + 0246 ü : Alt + 0252 Ä : Alt + 0196 Ö : Alt + 0214 Ü : Alt + 0220
Hello , I'm from Albania and trying to learn German . For us is so easy because we have all this for example Ü we have the Y and is the same pronunciation , Ä is the same in Albanien Ë the Ö is like a ë and o together for us . We say very easy the R and H and the β . I used to complain about them but thanks god that we have them 😂 .. Ur a big healp for me thank you, God bless you 🙏
"You just listen to some sheep and repeat after them!" -- Words I never thought I'd hear while studying german...
Great video as always! :)
"you must listen to some sheep and repeat after them" :) haha.

Haha. She kept it real.

Nelson Gabriel Gonzalez es gibt jetzt aber auch tatsächlich ein großes "ß"!
Or you can just change your layout to german.
Nelson Gabriel Gonzalez 8
It is easier to use English International Keyboard layout, you can type:
"+a=ä
"+o=ö
"+u=ü
etc...
After watch 10 tutorials similars, I found yours is best one here.. Danke for sharing, Ania!
You are a great teacher and you make learning such a lively and pleasant experience.
Danke sehr!
I have to admit, of all the German language instruction videos, you make learning how to pronounce the umlauts non-trivial, simple and by God doable.

To say ü, you can either say 'cute' but without the 'y' sound or you can say 'ee' as in feed, but with your lips rounded.
Okay this is really helpful, danke
