These are probably the best explained and visualized tours of certain areas that I've ever seen. The graphics with text showing different highlights as they look from photos and videos of the area really help you get an idea of what to expect and plan for.
Love Grand Staircase, went down the road to Devil's Garden, but we continued straight to hike some slot canyons, would love to go back & explore more. Also love knowing the Geology of the desert, that's awesome that huge rock, balanced no less, Wow!! Awesome Backcountry you filmed, just amazing, will always love & appreciate the desert, thanks for sharing 🏜️
I was stuck in the Northstar Expeditions program based out of Escalante from August 93, to Feb 94. This area is where we were. I know everything you video and photographed. Brings back some serious goosebump memories. Thank you. Sharing with former students.
When we did the full loop trip, which is quite a distance (~70 miles), we saw no other vehicles. I take that back, only one truck, and it was the owner of the hotel we were staying at in Escalante!
Thank goodness, they are trying to protect this area. Some people think it doesn't matter what we do to the Earth, but it does! If we don't protect them, what will we have left? The deserts are not wastelands, like people believed, and some still do. I've been looking at the damage, caused from mining and even farming. After they get done extracting what they want, it is a wasteland. Drilling and fracking too. In agriculture, the big circles are farming. The brown circles are from the land being no longer useful. There's a good documentary series, called: "H2O". It's a four part series. They are all good, but 3, explains the farm circles in the deserts. I really enjoy your videos. I follow a few people, who show these places, but I have a hard time following some of them. They don't say where they are. Finding where they are is difficult, but with you, I find my way, easily. I'm paraplegic and can't get around anymore, so I go with you guys. What a beautiful place.

HEY! I love the video EXCEPT that you show a sign that says "avoid walking in the tracks" (14:33) and then exactly one minute later (15:33) you show someone very clearly ... walking in the tracks!
HEY! You're absolutely correct. I've not noticed that before. Thanks for pointing that out. Fortunately, those tracks are definitely not going to be damaged as they're in the solid Entrada Sandstone. Other ones, the classic tracks with more edges, and in mudstones, I can see would be damaged after repeatedly being stepped on. Have you been to this site? There are so many odd anomalies in the sandstone, it's difficult to tell what's a track and what isn't.
@@BackRoadsWest1 Have not been, wish I could but there's only so much time in a life and I'm over 2000 miles away. I remember looking at the Kaiparowits on topo maps some 30 years ago and wanting to go, of course it was far harder to get info then but the topo alone was intriguing.
@@paleolith99 well, the Kaiparowits is easy to access. The road in the video is the most challenging and has the scenery shown, but there's an easy road with completely different scenery coming up from the south out of Page AZ, or another road with different landscape from Escalante UT. It seemed to do fine. They followed us on several other, even more rough, roads on that trip.

Did you meet much oncoming traffic?
One vehicle in the canyon and probably one other vehicle heading north towards Escalante. Lots of vehicles on Hole in the Rock Rd.

Great dissertation on the time scale. Hard to imagine how long ago these layers were put down. Hopefully the geology will outlast the political issues
Thanks! Yup, having those visuals in presentations makes all the difference, even if it is from a small brochure I picked up from the BLM.
