I know what episode you're talking about, but I don't recall Samantha getting smacked by Nell. I remember she got reprimanded and was forced to apologize to all her black folks for that heinous act. Earlier in the show, she was told to go to her room after calling Nell a hypocrite and she runs out of the house instead. That part I do remember.
both of my parents used to BEAT THE SHIT out of me all the time until i was about 15, and for a lot LESS than SMOKING in the house and LYING about it. furthermore, till this DAY, (i'm 56) they have never even come CLOSE to apologizing for it. i went to catholic school in the 70s and 80s and my teachers used to BEAT THE SHIT out of me too. this kid gets one little slap and they act like it's the end of the world. i have a hard time sympathizing.
