" Amorisimo" how quaint! Still, those smallpox disease vectors weren't Columbus' fault. I LOVE YOUR CONTENT GENTLEMEN! Dr. Holland's unqualified MASTERY of accents is a great source of joy to me!!!!
I'm inclined to agree. I understand that they are not equating extra-marital sex and rape, but it would have been better to make the distinction explicitly.
When did Columbus born in Portugal at least that's what I've heard I watched the whole thing on it he named all the islands I'll be home town around his hometown he named all the islands for those towns
I don’t know why scholars have to portray every action of the Indians in a good light. They were undoubtedly cannibals but we have to be wary about applying our values to them
I really enjoy these historical narratives, BUT This argument gets trotted out almost continuously in the interest of puncturing an anti-colonial perspective: "Oh, you cannot say that the Spanish activities in the New World were exclusively about domination, exploitation, and greed because They (the Spanish) really truly believed in their earnest little hearts that they were doing God's work to bring the faith to the indigenous people!." Fine- they may have used that argument to make themselves feel better and as a "fig leaf" The fact remains that the cruelties, rapes, murders, enslavement, and rapacious appetite for wealth were EXPLICITLY antithetical to Christ's word. So the accusation of hypocrisy must stand. Yes, this accusation is based in Christian thinking. no argument there- but that does not allow the Conquistadors to wiggle out of their actual behaviors in relation to the faith they professed. One could say that Christ predicted this kind of misuse of his name.
Rape is condemnable in all cultures, one doesn’t have to have a sense of catholic morality to find it repulsive. Extremely disappointed in the segment from 16 mins onwards.
Thank you, a most informative and entertaining trilogy.

No, really though, love you guys!!
I don't think the team was harsh enough in their condemnation of the last voyage/occupations by Columbus.

In 1492, Colombus discovered the Great Sino-Something-or-Other
He didn't discover it as the first European, the Vikings did it centuries earlier.
La Navidad was the first settlement.
La Isabella the second.
Concepción de la Vega the third.
Santo Domingo the forth.

Tell me another one just like cash crop the natives are a cash crop

I think that’s just as much European projection as anything else
