I'm taking my bike to the bike shop tomorrow, first time using the bike rack, I'm nervous about not being able to do it right, getting the bike stuck in the rack....I thought I was the only one with this kind of silly anxiety but reading the comments I see I'm not the only one :) the video was really helpful
THANK YOU for this. I have been hesitating for months putting my bike on the rack because I didn't know how and I didn't want to hold bus people up. I will finally be trying it today for the first time. I hope it's the same as this vid and I get it right!
I've always thought it courteous to load your bike into the second, inner spot on the rack if you're the first to load a bike on. It's simple to do and makes it easier and quicker for another rider to get on.
I think it's awesome everyone kind of feels the same way about it. No one wants to look dumb or hold up the bus. I fucked up the first time and the driver said something smart to me but I combated him pretty much by saying "you think I don't feel stupid enough already??" And he shut up.
Shockingly helpful XD planning on taking my bike up to the shop to get parts changed, oddly simple but you know how it is when you know the bus is wanting to keep on time and you're new to doin somethin.
I had picked up my old bike far from my house from my friend. He then told me the back tire was poped I went to a bike shop it was closed. I decided to take the bus but it was my first time putting a bike on the bus. I looked like a dumb ass I didn't know how to put the bike on and I asked the bus driver for help. She said sreamed. at me and said get off the road if you don't know how. I was pissed at her and just waited for the next bus. I watched this tutorial and it sure did help very much appreciated!!
Lester, some bus drivers are just hateful and rude. They hate their job, hate their life, and hate the public. They take out their hostility on the very people they are suppose to serve. I simply asked a bus driver once if the bus she was driving goes down town, and she gave me an ear full about how I should have checked the bus routes online before leaving home. She said that she gets so tired of people not knowing which bus to take, and that she doesn't have time for answering questions. She could have just said yes or no, without lecturing me. I should have reported her to the RTA, but I let it go. Anyway, like you, I just waited for another bus. The second bus driver was courteous, pleasant, and so helpful.
The first time I tried using one of these things, my friend and I were having trouble figuring it out. So what's the best thing for the bus driver to do in that situation? Honk the horn several times, at point blank range. I still have nightmares and trauma from that experience. I've since been able to figure it out and do it with confidence.
The sad part, bus drivers are not allowed to assisted for safety (passengers unattended) and liability ( injury to driver or damaging the bike reasons) all you can hope is that the bus will kneel or a kind and stronger passenger can assist
Thank you so much! I'm going to ride the bus for the first time and bring a bike to see my girlfriend, I was nervous about the bike rack. Thanks again!
when I did this the driver said I had it in reverse, so I had to put the bike facing the sidewalk not the street unlike the first bike. this video was helpful regardless for my first time, thanks!
i need this video i may have to bike to work sometimes and i dont wanna look like an idiot holding up a bus trying to fiddle with the rack , good video
here in vancouver translink change the bike racks on almost all there buses to a modified w2v rack. since the other ones blocked the headlights at night
Ditto, what was already said, please put the bike rack back up when you're done with it. This is a safety issue, because as a driver, you can't see that the bike rack is down without a bike on it. Then it becomes a possible hazard that you could put into a bumper of a car in front of you if you then misjudge the distance.
This is ten years later....I too have anxiety about looking like a tool trying to figure out a simple bike rack or annoying the bus driver but I see this has been a thing for some time. I live in Texas and riding the public bus is not considered "cool" plus it could take hours to go just 6 or 7 miles with transfers. I want to go to a bike trail that is out of my normal rides but I don't think I can endure the 50 mile round trip it would take so I was looking for a way to get at least half way there. It's kinda sad that universally public bus drivers have a bad reputation of being rude, curt and annoyed. I'm sure that's not the case for every driver but there them seems to be some consistency in the complaints and there are lots of those complaints.
My bike is heavy as fuck and I'm not the strongest person ever so it's kind of embarrassing when I load my bike on the bus. I've only done it like twice because I get super nervous haha
So normally, a passenger will have to move to the back of the bus and use the rear or middle door to exit the bus at the station, how does he notify the driver to let him take his bike and not just shoot the gas right away and drive off?
The trouble with this is when I take my helper to the bus stop after work, and the bus has 2 bikes already and the next bus is 30 minutes away He has to ride his bike home or wait 30 minutes and maybe the next bus will have 2 bikes already. PSTA FLORIDA
o its very similar to the ones in this vid. its the same process on putting ur bike on the rack. but one thing is that you can only use it during day light.
I was very nervous putting my brand new beach cruiser on this rack. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxG6JIgwJhur8_Rg8UeQ3EmePzi_wSncL8 But after reading many reviews I decided to get this one and take a chance. When arrived it was very simple to adjust and put together. I also added spike tape over the metal hooks before securing and tightening the straps, and no scratches. I also purchased the top bar made by the same company so that my cruiser sits straight on the rack without having to turn upside down. Extra bungee cords are used to secure the front wheel from flapping and even piece of mind knowing your bike is secure. Definitely recommend...
Tried to do this once and it was a nightmare. After unsuccessfully trying to hook up the bike for 10 seconds the bus driver starts freaking out and screaming. I ask her how it work and she has no idea. About a minute later, I end up taking my bike off because my bike doesn’t fit. I rode off and flicked off the bus driver.
I dont know why i can lift my cycle and everything but i am too scared to put my cycle on the bus rack i feel like the driver will give me an eye😒 and ill emberass my ass off or something😓😛 since im a 15 year old kid trying to go to school . On my way to school its uphill so its hard on a cycle i only need a bus in the morning but i can use my cycle on my way back home since its downhill i just hope i get a sweet bus driver as they show in the adds😌
i have had multiple shaming experiences previous to watching this the first time the bus arrived late, the driver was obviously agitated and i didnt want to ask for his help, after about a minute of looking like a dildo fumbling around, he assisted me, but in my idiocy i had gotten the bike stuck, he asked me how i got it stuck, i just left my bike there and went home, spaghetti everywhere
I put my road bike on just the way the video said and how others have done it. Asked the driver if I did it right. He said yes. 10 mins later, my bike had fallen over. With one more bump it would have been under the bus. Road bikes don't have grooves like mountain bikes so beware.
Here in little rock AR the POS wouldn't even lower the bus so I could hook my bicycle. When I got my bicycle off I left the hook down and rode off. I heard him honking
I hate doing this. I'm not the strongest person and my bike is a beach cruiser which is really heavy and on top of that my wrists are messed up and I have anxiety. I've no problem taking the bike off the bike rack, but putting it on is a struggle and I can never do it. I always end up giving up because the bus driver will just watch me and I can barely pick it up. So, I end up asking for help..
Oh, look he's attacking the way I spell. Don't have anything else to use against me huh. Also, I'm sure a 3 year old makes fun of others for being weak as fuck lmao!
I tried to do this once... I held up the fucking bus and the people inside got mad at me because I didn't know how to do it and the bus driver had to park the bus and come outside and do it for me.
It's funny I come here because I'm insecure about using a bicycle and using the bus. It's not my fault our infrastructure is geared towards people who own cars rather than public bus. At least where the cars are actually being used. The life of a peasant I guess that's me. Don't blame me I'm the victim haha love that I am a hypocrite
This is helpful, was worried about doing this and making myself look like an ass.
Hahah me too!
You ever show up yet with a bike and see the rack full. Its not a glamorous moment, its one full of pain and suffering.
+Evan Zablocki hahaha, yea! It happened to me one time. I have a BMX so the bus driver allowed me to bring it in
+Evan Zablocki I hear you!
I would never ride a bus. Too many cruds and lowlifes.
Sturnira i can relate taking the bus right now
Sturnira i just got a new bmx and i get the same way
omg this was me, i looked up this video not expecting for anyone to have the same anxiety. loll
Sturnira
Me too. I was scared to admit it . Lol
its gonna be okay
THANK YOU for this. I have been hesitating for months putting my bike on the rack because I didn't know how and I didn't want to hold bus people up. I will finally be trying it today for the first time. I hope it's the same as this vid and I get it right!
Did you still slightly struggle? I did
loveanpeace4eva
Me too .....
Korg The Destroyer and you’re 6
Seems so easy, yet I feel like I would miserably fail haha
I've always thought it courteous to load your bike into the second, inner spot on the rack if you're the first to load a bike on. It's simple to do and makes it easier and quicker for another rider to get on.
For real that should be a rule
@@Souran123 In Milwaukee, it is part of their directions: inner slot first.
I feel like a dick... I put my bike on the rack for the first time today and I put it at the very front slot :(
Very helpful going to use it today for the first time. a little nervous lol
always think the bus drivers going to have to come out and help me and piss everyone in the bus off
same lol x)
Same here been avoiding to use it but fuck it gotta mission it to work today
I think it's awesome everyone kind of feels the same way about it. No one wants to look dumb or hold up the bus. I fucked up the first time and the driver said something smart to me but I combated him pretty much by saying "you think I don't feel stupid enough already??" And he shut up.
+Brin Bart Yeah, social anxiety sucks man.

Very Helpful. I was nervous about my bike falling off and being crunched by the bus! Now, I don't have to worry about that! :)
The first time I tried using one of these things, my friend and I were having trouble figuring it out. So what's the best thing for the bus driver to do in that situation? Honk the horn several times, at point blank range. I still have nightmares and trauma from that experience. I've since been able to figure it out and do it with confidence.
That's my fear...
my fear too
The sad part, bus drivers are not allowed to assisted for safety (passengers unattended) and liability ( injury to driver or damaging the bike reasons) all you can hope is that the bus will kneel or a kind and stronger passenger can assist
Some bus drivers are aholes
Thanks, the was helpful. It's been 20 years since I've been on a public bus.
good instructional video! I would add hitting the spring loaded hook with your palm to make sure it is sprung down all the way.
Much needed. Thank you so much for posting this.
going to try for the first time. kinda nervouse. Wish me luck my social anxiety group!!
Zypher Zolei how did it go
Hopefully we’ll going to try today for the first time
My brother and I were watching this at the bus stop with our bikes, just straight up panicking haha
I kept asking him "Can he tell us no??" 😂
Very helpful. I have to bring my bike with me on Tuesday, and I've only used the bike rack once, I didn't want to ask the driver again.
Love it! Very durable and well made
@tacoboy262 You can ask the driver if the bike can be brought onto the bus. Most buses have a wheelchair securement area where the bike can be stored.
Thank you so much! I'm going to ride the bus for the first time and bring a bike to see my girlfriend, I was nervous about the bike rack. Thanks again!
Sweet. Excellent, clear, easy to understand. I have never put my bike on a bus before. Now I do :D
when I did this the driver said I had it in reverse, so I had to put the bike facing the sidewalk not the street unlike the first bike.
this video was helpful regardless for my first time, thanks!
I don't live in Maine, but this was hugely helpful nonetheless! Thank you! 😀
how did 2 ppl dislike this lOL! this information is crisp and simple .. COME ON MAN!
i need this video i may have to bike to work sometimes and i dont wanna look like an idiot holding up a bus trying to fiddle with the rack , good video
here in vancouver translink change the bike racks on almost all there buses to a modified w2v rack. since the other ones blocked the headlights at night
Helpful and simple, thank you.
If you have mud gears can you use this bicycle rack
also, if full make sure you responsibly discard the bike filling the spot you need....
jk....we're having fun
Makes me wonder why I didn't think of that. LOL!
This is very helpful! Thanks again!
Thanks so much (:
I have to return a beach cruiser and didn't know how to get it on the bus
lol this was useful for me, as i'm about to do this for the first time and I don't want to piss off the bus driver for taking too long :P
Can you put a bmx bike 20 inch wheel on this rack
Tommy Reyes did u try it ?
This was extremely helpful

Thank you, I have to get my bike uphill 4 miles later today and I am NOT going to be riding it. Especially after a long day at work.

I exit through the front door and they see me by my bike already
are these standard across the nation or world thank you
Can an ebike with fat tires fit in the rack? Thanks.
I hope this is the same for the pace bus in Chicago.
ohh thank you I needed that
Is there a tire width that is too large to fit in the bike rack? I have 2.5 wide tires, will it fit?
My mountain bike has fenders. Will the spring lock's pressure in holding the bike squish the fender down onto the tire?
The trouble with this is when I take my helper to the bus stop after work, and the bus has 2 bikes already and the next bus is 30 minutes away He has to ride his bike home or wait 30 minutes and maybe the next bus will have 2 bikes already. PSTA FLORIDA

Very helpful thank you
How does putting a bike on the rack and taking the bus, instead of just cycling all the way save money or reduce pollution?
It doesn’t haha
What about bicycle with fenders?
Does it damage the fender?
Please make a video if you can put a bmx bike on rack 20 inch wheel thanks
leaving the rack down is considered sloppy and it can possible become a danger in the event of a crash to the occupents of the vechicle being struck
Dont ask the bus #71 for help or even say hi
do they get mad?
I tried taking my bike once and I wasn't fast enough so ....be quick or the drivers get impatient!
+Kathy Rankin oh dang that would. be scary thanks for the information
Kathy Rankin lmao you do realise every city in the world with bus for public transport has a #71
Oh I forgot tomention #71in Portland Or!

Is it the same for all buses? I live in Boise.
Great video in case someone might be intimidated by this.
Can I put a bicycle with a gas motor on the front of a bus
Will the bike rack hold a folding bike with 20" wheels? (BMX size)
can a road scwinn bike be stable on the bike rack? mine is pretty tall
Tried to do this once and it was a nightmare. After unsuccessfully trying to hook up the bike for 10 seconds the bus driver starts freaking out and screaming. whitewiddoww WTF
Wait.. So you just left your bike..? Watttt??
does it still work with a road bike???
wow, this guy sounds like Jim from The Office!
Yeah! It is im from the CHI and i take my bus on the pace everytime..same mechanism..
I put my road bike on just the way the video said and how others have done it. Asked the driver if I did it right. He said yes. 10 mins later, my bike had fallen over. With one more bump it would have been under the bus. Road bikes don't have grooves like mountain bikes so beware.
Thanks for the heads-up on that.
Also what if your bike has fenders?
what if there were already 2 bikes?
thanks so much! that will definitely help ;)
wat happens if the bike rack is full? wat do u do.
How tall could the bike be? Mine has 39" wheels. Is that to tall.
Любопытная конструкция. В СНГовье до такого никак не додумаются.
so you can only load 2 bikes?
The website said if the racks are full you'll have to stand there & wait for the next bus
Who is the producer of this Bike Rack?
mrole2 Dr. Dre.
Ojalá esto existiera en México. :(
You are allowed to bring your bike into the bus if the bike rack is filled, at least where I'm from.
What if my bike is too smal and dosent fit on the rack
MORMON MISSIONARIES! HAD TO BE SAID
And is free for the bice?
😎 video.more bikes less car's
Here in little rock AR the POS wouldn't even lower the bus so I could hook my bicycle. When I got my bicycle off I left the hook down and rode off. I heard him honking

Rick Nils Rick, what the hell is wrong with you? You must have been very neglected. You can hardly type and you have the attitude of a 3 year old.
Oh, look he's attacking the way I spell. Don't have anything else to use against me huh. Also, I'm sure a 3 year old makes fun of others for being weak as fuck lmao!
Rick Nils Hey, you brought something horribly rude and out of topic up. So why should I stay in topic?
Payne M lmao im just rephrasing what you said. all looks and no brain huh payne
joel750 Of course! Gracias.
The bus driver just told me to use the slot nearest the bus. Everyone else I've seen using the rack has done the same thing.
Yeah, slot nearest the bus first
thanks.. that will help.
jose says wow
does this work with uber?
@BeAnBeAn22
Vancouver BC has the same rack.
Can it hold a bmx?
Rene Roux did u try it ?
I'm hoping it's this easy, but I feel like I'm still going to embarrass myself.
Our buses have 3 racks and they all face the same way. On a bus now dreading how I’m gonna get mine off
Thank you! Now I know!
i hope i dont take too long lol ive always lowkey been too scared of doing this
thanks bro =]
Bmx bikes?
Who the hell actually disliked this?..
thaaaaaaaanks
thaaaaaaaaaaaaaank
I tried to do this once... I held up the fucking bus and the people inside got mad at me because I didn't know how to do it and the bus driver had to park the bus and come outside and do it for me.
Jus missed my bus cuz the fucking tweak of a driver didn't help me do this shit, I'm so fucking pressed rn
you need to speak louder or put the volume up. :)
It's funny I come here because I'm insecure about using a bicycle and using the bus. It's not my fault our infrastructure is geared towards people who own cars rather than public bus. When I go through car seller lots and all those un-bought cars are lying there. I get the mass manufacturing = cheaper production cost per car but man... maybe that'll change in the future. At least where the cars are actually being used. The life of a peasant I guess that's me.
Don't blame me I'm the victim haha love that I am a hypocrite
