@QuoGirl this is the rewritten version of Her or Me. When you listen to the original broadway soundtrack Her or Me is what you hear, this is on the London Cast [I think] her or me has since been changed to what you see/hear here. Most of the sheet music for this has 'formerly her or me' in parentheses :)

no, that's not it exactly. her husband was in Vietnam and had a romance with a Vietnamese girl named Kim, then met Ellen (the girl who sings this song) after he returns because not only does he think Kim is dead,but he also wants to let go of Vietnam. But Ellen knew nothing about Chris' life in Vietnam. Then, Chris finds out that while he was in Vietnam, he got Kim pregnant and she had a child. Then Ellen sees Kim when they go to see Kim's baby and realizes how much Kim loved Chris.
