    He recruits frim the non power 5 schools which have more loyalty than the blueblood programs in my opinion .There are so many fish in the ocean , you WILL catch the right fish that fit.

      I think that’s a great point. Missing Cliff and Battle is not the end of the world like people are making it seem, we’ll have some good names added to the roster soon if I had to guess!

    Excellent video I agree with all your research and points…I think KState fans are getting too caught up in the rankings and not about who are great hoopers. I knew that when people were sweating about not getting Oumar Ballo lol…I trust the coaches but I wish we would’ve been able to keep Dai Dai and RJ

    • @JoeTillery
      @JoeTillery  4 месяца назад

      While I wouldn’t have said this at the time, keeping RJ would have been more likely than keeping Dai Dai. Seems they felt slighted by us adding more guards which was always going to happen to be fair. We’ll get it straightened out but would have been nice to maintain them! Thanks for watching my friend!

      @JoeTillery  4 месяца назад +1

      You’re spot on with that brother, portal fatigue is real. Thanks for watching my friend!

  • @jimhull3103
    @jimhull3103 4 месяца назад +1

    The problem is not the quality of the portal class it is the size of the portal class. Not many teams with legitimate hopes of being good next season are going to be taking 9 players out of the portal this season. Bad things generally happen when you have more new faces in a rotation than returners. We will have a team with more than 8 players next season, but I don't expect it to be one that is going to finish in the top half of the conference. We needed some HOMERUNS to give us a chance to make up for the strikeouts in prior classes (everyone that left).

    • @JoeTillery
      @JoeTillery  4 месяца назад

      You know, I actually tend to disagree here. I don’t think that because we’re adding a new cast of dudes through the portal that directly translates to missing the tourney or not finishing in the top half of the league. Obviously we’d like to retain more talent when possible but if we’re banking on the development of guys like Dai Dai, RJ, and Art to get us to the tourney and not adding others to that I think you’re going to see a similar outcome to that of last year. That being said, I completely understand where you’re coming from. I think we’ll be fine to be honest. These next two weeks will be crucial for us without question though. Thanks for watching my friend!

    I am curious as Alabama has beat Kansas State head to head on Estrada and now Omoruyi. Is there a common denominator such as NIL or do you think each recruitment should be viewed as a separate process?

    • @JoeTillery
      @JoeTillery  4 месяца назад +1

      Great question! I would view both as separate processes to be honest. While we have swung and missed, I think the staff is still learning best practices and tactics to use in recruitment. With Estrada, that was on Eid the first major battles we were in, and we definitely did not have the money to get that one done. Cliff is a whole different situation. At some point the money goes to the back burner and the kid has to make a choice at which team gives him the best shot at a successful future. There was more risk at K-State so he went to Bama. I don’t think Bama has insane recruiting or anything but they are solid and do a good job of selling dudes in the right direction.

    • @JoeTillery
      @JoeTillery  4 месяца назад

      Thank you my friend! I think the process is just slow to be honest. It takes time to find the right guys. That being said, Desi wasn’t added to the roster until October from what I remember. It takes time but we’ll get those dudes on the court again!

    I’m not sure what some of these fans who’re hitting the panic button expect. Overall, for many years, we’ve been a mediocre program and although I believe that Tang is the best coach to have come here since I’ve been a fan in 1998, he’s still got some work to do as a coach. I really like where this team is headed in its current makeup and I know we’ll get a big or 2 here soon, so let’s just calm down a bit and come back in off the ledge.

    • @JoeTillery
      @JoeTillery  4 месяца назад +1

      Agreed! I think you’re right on the money. Expectations take time to break through. I have no doubt we’ll get some great players in Manhattan but it’s not the end of the world to miss Cliff and battle. Thanks for watching!

      you’re* if I’m insane I’ll at least be correctly spelled. Patience is a virtue, still a lotta time left to build a roster. If we’re sitting here a month later in the same spot, we’ll have a problem. Thanks for watching!

    I'm glad you are bringing some perspective here. It's okay to be bummed, but no need to panic about losing out on a player. You are correct. There are a still a lot of good players available in the portal and the four we have brought in so far are studs. I also wonder if some of those folks who get K-State fans riled up on social media aren't just trolls posing as K-State fans. We'll be fine. Go 'Cats!

    I think the biggest worry is that roughly 30ish players in the top 200 guys are left. We got extremely lucky in Tangs first year with Nowell and Keyonte carrying the load. Now we essentially have the same problem as then without a Keyonte/Nowell on the team to elevate the rest. We are relying on Dug to be a 20ppg guy at this point.

    • @JoeTillery
      @JoeTillery  4 месяца назад +1

      Only caveat to what you’re saying is that no one fully expected Quis to be an All-American heading into the season. The thing is that basketball isn’t a situation where everything on paper is as good as guys get. It’s like, do we know for a fact that CJ Jones or Brendan Hausen aren’t going to be 15 PPG type players? I think it sounds nice in theory to say we don’t have a Quis or Key on the team but in reality, heading into 2022-23, I think the narrative would be the same of unproven players and question marks that pan out. We were fortunate to see how incredible Quis and Key were but to say that we know for a fact we don’t have one of those type of dudes on our team isn’t accurate because no one knows.

    • @JoeTillery
      @JoeTillery  4 месяца назад

      I hope that came off right lol, I don’t mean to say those aren’t valid concerns, but we have an equal chance at getting lucky that we do at getting unlucky. The staff has more time ahead and I expect us to get a few more proven dudes in the building and we’ll be fine! Thanks for watching my friend!

    • @popp454
      @popp454 4 месяца назад +1

      That’s a very good point. Growth year to year is unknown, and who knows how CJ/Hausen/Buddy rich improve with more min/substantial role. My worry, to play devils advocate here,is that it’s requiring a lot to go right all at once. Unless we add some more top end talent here quickly, we are hoping that 3-4 role players each take a significant step up production wise. I trust Tangs judgement/decision making. But I can see why some are worried more than others

    You have been very good at identifying potential players, imho. I hope our coaches are watching if they haven’t been. Also, I understand going after star players, but K-State has had past success from finding undervalued players or players with upside. Maybe there needs to be a mix?

    • @JoeTillery
      @JoeTillery  4 месяца назад +1

      Thank you my friend! I’ve done an okay job at that so far but primarily most of the targets I’ve featured have already been linked to K-State. We didn’t chase anybody off, Dai Dai left. You saw what his mom said. This was going to happen wether we added Battle or any other guard which we were always going to do. Good stuff Joe! 2000+ guys still in the portal is wild, and its even more wild that a vocal minority on twitter seem to want someone fired or something, probably the same people freaking out when Arkansas came knocking on Tang’s door. Same people who complain that people are leaving in the portal because we recruited over them, and then complain when we don’t get some guys even higher rated than that. Almost like some people just want to complain…. Not saying anyone has to be happy about last season. We definitely don’t have all the information about not only our own program, but the goings on at other programs, we might have lost out on someone because they were duped by misinformation from Chris Beard lol. Sucks, but damn we can’t really control what Chris Beard does, he can’t even seem to do that himself. The assumption on portal guys is that they all leave on their own, when the reality might be they’re “allowed” to leave because the staff is “okay” with them leaving. We don’t have all the information. Just like we didn’t have all the information on Tomlin. We either trust the staff or we don’t. I trust the staff. Just my opinion.

      I think that’s a totally valid opinion. Misery definitely loves company, and that’s easy to see when negative things happen. That being said, I think it’s all a patience game.
