Your band got 12th, I don't think that hour of rehearsal is what put Sharyland and Pioneer above y'all

This is kinda crazy. They’re acting like they paid the judges or something. All they did was miss like an hour of class like one time. I know Texas has done much worse with respect to sports, such as pulling athletes out of class to practice. So the fact that the penalty was this harsh for something so minuscule is insane. I’m sure this has happened many times in the past with no one’s knowledge. So I feel like this is just being taken way out of proportion, especially if this was a one time occurrence, it would be insane to reprimand their whole seasons. People who view this as cheating should understand the sacrifice that some schools enormous amounts of time to compensate for talent gaps, and this level of dedication is honestly admirable, because if it were such an issue, the complaints would have originated from students at the school.

8 hr rule that every other school follows

@@MichaelMFlores I understand that this is the UIL rules, but for next season this should definitely be revised or at least more widely audited, since there's definitely many instances of this happening that go unreported. So, to give this level of penalty for promoting practicing more, just seems counterintuitive. I can guarantee that many schools across the country pull players for other activities out of class for practicing athletics. Some activities require students to leave school early regularly, without any academic compensation. Why should band have to abide by this rule, especially since this was not a regularly occurring event? They could have honestly classified this rehearsal as a field trip and if the division approved, then there would have been absolutely zero reason for any controversy. I understand people are salty because they lost because these groups got to practice like a few hours more than they did. Also to say that they had an advantage because they practiced on the field prior to the competition, most turf fields feel about the same to march on, and the field should have little to no impact on the scores. If the field did have a large impact, it definitely would be an indication of skill gaps between ensembles. So, I can empathize how they would reprimand these groups, but going forward, they need to either revise these rules or have been auditing systems, since too much of this was allowed to happen before action was taken.

@@AComplexMexalright most of your claims barely have evidence backing up the claim that “a decent amount of schools pulls kids out for practice” and yeah OFC so many people are salty, its understandable. Easier for you to say since yall always go to state ,but bands that are considered low WORK really hard for what they have been doing. Alot of people are putting sweat and hours to these shows maybe even more than higher bands and being smashed by a band that had a little advantage is very disheartening and disappointing. While i may agree on your points, you also gotta walk a mile in their shoes and understand how these people must be feeling when they lose a competition to a band that had a slight advantage.

@@damn5940 Well I am speaking from an outsider POV as I am from Virginia and my school definitely is a contender for making state finals, although it's not guaranteed to us every year. I understand all programs try their best to be competitive, but I just feel there's too much shady stuff surrounding the way the decision was executed. For instance, there's no reason that the school's activity coordinator wouldn't have been notified that this was not allowed before having to approve these buses being used for this reason. Furthermore, the time between the decision and the enforcement of this rule seem all too delayed. It would have made much more sense to me if they had been reprimanded on the spot as soon as this was reported instead of waiting for the Area Finals to be over and then make an executive decision are the scoring was done. Nonetheless, I know this will only be the start of many ongoing debates when situations like this occur in the future and this will be used as a precedent whether that be negative or positive. It is only my personal opinion that this situation is very tumultuous and that further investigation into this whole situation should be done to see the motivation for withholding action.

And who’s going to pay for the schools having to provide transportation, the staff needed for the event to function, and the venue? You can’t just get a petition together to have a contest to be held again just because your band wasn’t good enough to make one of the spots needed to advance.

They did not cheat and both sharyland schools deserve the spot they got just cuzz they practiced on the field that did not make them win it was their talent and dedication. Plus they where not the only schools that went to practice that week so stop making this a big deal and leave the bands alone woman and stop spying 🕵️ on other bands focus on ur dam school drop the dam petition this just looks ridiculous now all eyes 👀 on ur school from now on making sure u don’t cheat 😂.

This kid made a petition to have a opportunity to make state… harlingen south didn’t crack the top 10. I have heard that 5 other bands went to the practice at the stadium also. I find that gladys porter is very unprofessional for only putting this on sharyland. If they made state they would not have complained i bet. They just sound very salty and only did this to make it to state. But the petition was just tedious because they didn’t crack top 10. Everyone knew who top 10 was gonna be and they weren’t part of it.
