Our friends from RSISmartCap came by today to show of the Overlander Edition topper. These things are awesome and you can get one for work OR play here at Cape Fear Customs
Like the idea but you might want to add an adjustment to drop that stove a little lower. Could get a little tricky with a higher truck and a shorter person with boiling liquids.
I like the modular design concept, the way that rack slides down and stows up is really cool. As always, the price of these add up. They may start around $4K but then all that stuff is as much and more, not to mention shipping it from South Africa can't be cheap, but it looks like it's well-made, love the idea.
@@zizwop putting it together started at 5:30 and it was on at 8. I would recommend using 2 ppl to put it together and 4 to throw it on top once it's ready
Those options are great. One thing that concerns me about the drop down propane grill, is splatter when cooking bacon or steak or something. I'm concerned cooking right there next to the shelf splattered grease would gunk up that side. Looks like a lot of little nooks and cranny's that could be difficult or time consuming to really clean. One advantage to having a portable grill and setting it up on the ground nearby. Any thoughts on this concern? I guess one option to benefit from this set up but alleviate this concern, is to have some kind of a heat resistant, cleanable screen to lean up or attach between the cooking part and the storage part inside that it dropped down from, maybe as simple as a piece of cardboard with tinfoil wrapped around it.
Can I ask what size tires and wheels you have on the Tacoma? I'm mostly interested in the brand/model of the wheels you have on it? Thanks, Love the RSI SmartCap, trying to decide between the RSI SmartCap Adventure model or a GFC Topper for my 2023 TRD Off Road Tacoma build.
That's a great looking cap. A question. Do you think there is any way to custom make a fine mesh screen for the two little sliding side windows to keep bugs out but let air in when they are slid open? Maybe using velcro, or magnets, but something that could be taken on and off easily as needed, but it would need to have a tight seal around the edges of course. I wish they designed something like that into the build, or provided a detachable one as an available accessory option, something like that.
Sorry about the delayed response, I did not see a one on the RSI website, they have a security mesh. I doubt it would be too hard to fabricate a removable version that would fit your needs. Reach out to a local fabricator for some insight on the costs related.Hope this helps.
Nice. A question. If I was to take that rack and say a Roofnest Sparrow2 pop up tent off the top of the Smartcap from Thanksgiving to Easter, and put it back up from Easter to Thanksgiving, how best to take it all off the top and later put it back on? Can you keep the rack and tent together, and take the rack off, the tent going with it, how easy or difficult is that? Or is it better to take the tent off first and then the rack second? Other? Thanks.
The smart cap has rails. To attach a tent cross rails should be attached to them. Mount or remove from crossrails when you are needing seasonal change and keep or remove crossmembers while tent is off.
Did you have to take apart the roof tracks to add the crossbars / platform. If so how do you get access to adding additional hardware for other components ?
One thing they don't tell you anywhere is that you can't latch your topper from the inside easily and I'd you do manage to do it. There is no getting out. The latches only open from the outside.
Wait, so this one has a window, which can only be opened from the outside due to the cargo bay, and you're saying that it's good to have ventilation while you're sleeping? I can only imagine someone can walk by and close the window or just reach in and steal things
too bad RSI doesn't make these for older vehicles. I have 2014 chevy silverado and well its a no go. very limited to new vehicles only. hope this changes
Hey Steven I have the predecessor to this RSI Canopy and the third brake light was an option you had to specify when ordering, along with options like kitchen, bay, Table etc etc. Best go check out the RSi website for details.
Very nice, but I want it shipped and installed, I’m all thumbs. RSI should make it available to cap dealers, where I burn an hour waiting for installation.

Cool concept! Has more cutlery than I have in my kitchen! The stove seems a bit high for me though.
Sorry that you are small

Got mine 3700 shipped
@@notoffroading what was the shipping cost if you don't mind me asking
@@zizwop free, go to tacoma world and talk to offroad alliance.
@@notoffroading If you haven't assembled it yet, let me know how long it took. I'm curious, how heavy is it?

I'm 6ft 2 and would have to use a step stool to use that kitchen off my gladiator. Love the smart cap though.

Got mine totally worth it!!
How are you liking it? Does it rattle at all when driving?
@@allisonrichardson6610 nope everything is solid. No leaks for mine as well.
I like this set up no camping stuff but for contractor bins on both sides and smart rack on top how much would that run installed on 2015 tundra

Beautiful truck 👍👌👌👌
Is the sport or the adventure? I’m trying to decide on which to by.
Where to buy this beautiful canopy please let me know tq brother
The drop down rack...is it / can it be compatible with standard roof top caps?
Can you open the gull wing doors from the inside if you decide to sleep inside
anybody know what wheels they have on it? and size of the tires?
I'm tight for overall vehicle height- anyone know the exact measurement from the bedrail to the top of that rack?

Word on the street is they’re working on new latches that work inside and out. They’ll be interchangeable with models out now.
Do you have kayak carriers for the drop down rack?
i haven't seen these in stock. what happened to rsi smartcaps?
Do you have it for a FOR F 150 XLT 4W, 2021? Do you have a dealer in shouts America?
Does it come with out the glass? I prefer solid metal doors! Keep the thieves out.
Wait, so this one has a window, which can only be opened from the outside due to the cargo bay, and you're saying that it's good to have ventilation while you're sleeping? I can only imagine someone can walk by and close the window or just reach in and steal things
how easy is it to take that rsi smartcap apart
That stove is way too high up
Any ieldea how much the thing weighs without all the bins and kitchen? Can't find the specs on it anywhere
One their site I believe it says 180lbs
Nice rims, what brand is that ?
Why would you need a table that high with the window in the way of it though
Not one to cook on top of my $50,000 fender. Paint jobs are expensive. Do like the RSI. 😁
You spent all this time shooting and editing this video, and when I call your store, they don’t know what a SmartCap is? Really? 😂😂😂
Lmao. Really? Wow!!
Does it come with the Tacoma? joking. Cool design, I prefer none of the accesories ( kitchen etc. )
Nice!
Great overview of a fantastic product. The clarity on the video was fantastic! What kind of camera are you using?
That’s pretty cool, but not sure about the table.
Ha, thought that table was best part!
Do the siding windows have screens that close the hole when that windows is open?
No it doesnt but u can install some yourself
too bad RSI doesn't make these for older vehicles. I have 2014 chevy silverado and well its a no go. very limited to new vehicles only. hope this changes
Same here i looking at the construction topper just about the same thing
Thats a high as stove.
Seems like a really great topper! Is it waterproof? Also, those rims look good ... what are they!
Black Rhino wheels
Yes it is water proof
Yes it is
Basic rims that come on the Tacoma off road model
Man, that look great. Here's a thing I couldn't quite catch; is there a brake light above the rear door?

Not much room to actually camp underneath that shell. I would bring a tent or a teardrop trailer.
Nice
8 ft bed ?
How much it weigh?
Why doesn't anyone ever paint these??
Like the topper, but not the Japanese truck.
Delivery/Supply chain....no dealer inventory for 3 months :(.
How much those cost?
Almost $4k

It's more than $4K, the rack alone is like $1,400, the kitchen too. I would say the one in this video with all those options is closer to $8K.

Why don’t they have this for Gen 2 2015 model i would be all over that?

Someone in USA better make these. I want one
Look nice so it is worthy $5,000 dollars.
It’s very hard to hear what he saying.
10k
Everything good up until the portable kitchen box. Lol.
Find a quiet place to record.
$3000
IF YOUR GOING TO SLEEP IN THERE AND YOU CAN NOT OPEN THE REAR THEN HOW THE HELL ARE DO YOU GET OUT.????? DESIGN FLAW.
