Edit: It’s been four years since I wrote this comment. I just wanted to come back and say, I am no longer suicidal/ deeply depressed. I still struggle, but I made it through. For those who are still going through it, you CAN get better. I swear. Happiness doesn’t even seem like a real thing that exists, but it is. I’ve seen a glimpse of it. Just hold on, and get help. You CAN do it.❤️

........... I can never really understand what this song doeas to me. As soon as I press play, I just focus on the melody, and Jessie's voice. There's nothing else. I look straight into her eyes, like she was right in front of me, speaking. ...it's like I can't control myself anymore.... I start to shiver. My whole body shakes and my eyes get wet and I just stare at her eyes. Then I start to cry..... ...this song just speakes to me. It saves me, every single time, in a way that I can't explain. I’m a 29 year ago guy from Hong Kong, and right now I’m on a bus alone in a foreign country,listening to this song, crying by myself. I have been wearing a wig for five years because of my balding and last night it was kinda broken. I didn’t bring a hat with me unfortunately. It’s been so long since I go out with my real hair showing to the public. At first, I was so frustrated and losing my mind because of this. I couldn’t even breathe when I looked at the hotel mirror. But then I told myself I couldn’t let it defeat me, there’s still a long way for me to go. The next day I still wore the broken wig but everybody would instantly notice I’m wearing one when they look at me. I felt vulnerable, insecure, and yet I also felt relieved. It was when I start letting the facade go away that I could finally feel like myself. And then I thought of this song, came here, listening to it, and it is the first time the lyrics hit so deep, every word, every line of this song goes straight into my heart.
And I just wanna say thank you Jessie for putting this song out. It enlightened me 10 years ago, and it gives me strength and comfort I needed today.

There is so much that I love about this song, but here's an interesting fact that many of you may not know. This version was the FIRST version Jessie recorded in studio, and she liked it so much that she kept it, even though there is a mistake in the beginning where you can hear one of her producers talking in the background (0:06ish). It really is an amazing song which has saved so many lives.

No better names It's given a lot of people the courage to be themselves and know that it's okay. They might otherwise have gone the route that a lot of other people have when they felt completely different from everyone else and that that was a bad thing.

At first, she gained a lot of recognition from her song “do it like a dude” which was heavily supported by the lgbtq+ community. She also said that she was bisexual. After she became famous though, she claimed that it was all for show, which honestly wasn’t the best move what with bi-erasure etc.. So along with her style changing, yes she has a great voice, but it was pretty horrible the way she handled the whole thing and I believe she lost a lot of fans due to that as well.
She probably found it difficult to sell herself out, hence the trend we see with certain artists that "blow up" for a period of time then fall into the darkness. If you wanna make it to the "top" and stay there, the music industry is will make sure you don't stay true to who you are

I always listen to this song when I feel like I can't be who I am with my friends and family. Just because I'm a cheerful person doesn't mean I don't hurt. When I try to express that they are already offending me or their jokes are hurting me they tell me I'm just sensitive. Oh well I forgive people way too easy even without them knowing I was hurt by them. Sometimes I just want someone to tell me it's okay not to be okay. Coz you know I can't always be the person they perceived me to be. I get hurt. And sometimes it's hard to just laugh it off.
