  • Need to replace the hood on your Audi TT Mk1? Then look no further!
    I recently covered how to restick the glass in your convertible roof. Well, that glass got broken in an unrelated incident so now its time for the whole hood to be changed.
    I cover how to remove all of the bodywork needed for the removal of the hood, including the disconnecting of wiring harnesses, removing the trim panels and all the screws and bolts that hold it together.
    Tools you need include:
    Screwdrivers
    T25 Torx bit or T25 Allen key type tools.
    Breaker bar
    H6 Hex Key socket
    Socket wrench
    17mm socket
    14mm socket
    pliers
    Plastic prising tool (like a bike tyre lever)
    Any questions please do ask!

    Hello Andy and thanks for your great TT videos. I need to put hydraulic fluid in the hood motor of my Mark 1 convertable . Can you show how to do this as their in not very much info on achieving this on-line. Keep up to good work and I look forward to more great content.

    • @andycharger
      @andycharger  2 года назад

      Hello Brian. Thanks for youir kind words! So the motor sits under the parcel shelf behind the left hand seat I believe and seems to be accessed through a flap in the top. However, when I looked into this, most people suggest drilling into the reservoir to pump fluid in and put a valve on. That seems seriously extreme! Are you sure you have a hydraulic leak/loss? I would check all the usual issues with rams popping off, relays, fuses, etc first buddy.

      @@andycharger Thank you for prompt reply. I just bought the MK1 with hard top, and it is already installed, the soft top is below it. So I am curious how hard is to take off the hard top and use the soft one that is below?
      The owners told me that they never did it themselves, they just go twice a year to the mechanic, and the mechanic take off, and put on the hard top before the winter and before the summer, so they can use only the soft top over the summer.
      I hope I made it clear, thank you once again for answering! :)

    I need to replace the hood hydraulics (last owner sliced through one of the hoses), and I also just yesterday managed to dislodge one of the drain tubes from the catch cup on the driver's side.
    Since you recently did this, do you happen to know whether those parts could be refitted without fully removing the hood?

    • @andycharger
      @andycharger  3 года назад +1

      Hi Jesse. Sorry I have taken so long to respond. I think the drain tubes can be accessed by removing the rear trim of the roadster, just behind the seats. There's a toothed belt that goes across the top of the frame to drive the second screw shaft for the wind deflector. It's probably stripped a few teeth off and likely needs replacement. Getting the top trim off the frame is a pain.

    hi Andy very handy video, I just swapped the roof on mine but I cannot get the new roof to sit right, its tight up against the weather seal on the passenger side but at the drivers I can see about a half inch gap where the catch is, it doesn't seem to get close enough to the seal to actually touch. its a gap of approx half inch and about 6 inches long? how do I get this to touch the seal as the old roof did, and this one does on the passenger side?

    • @andycharger
      @andycharger  3 года назад

      Hi Pete. Did you crack this? Its all about the alignment of the hood position. There is a bit of lateral movement and alignment you can do. So if you mount the hood too fat forwards, there tends to be a bit of a gap. Slide it back even as little as 5mm and you will find that the gap closes right up.

    • @petec7849
      @petec7849 3 года назад

      @@andycharger hi Andy. no I've tried moving it back gap does close. but still lower than the weather seal, once better weather arrives not sure if I take the bottom bar off and pull the black strap of material that runs along frame from front to back and screw it a bit tighter maybe lift the bottom bar up closer to the seal, not sure if it will work but can only try. any thoughts on if that would work?or mess up roof closure etc? just the strap seems a little slacker on drivers than passenger side?

    • @andycharger
