  • In this video I have explained about calculation of retention time of sponge iron rotary Kiln. Residence time or retention time is the time it takes for material to move from the feed end of the system to the discharge end of the system.
    In case of a fresh kiln the retention time for different capacity Kiln are:
    100TPD kiln at 0.45rpm is 6-7 hrs,
    350TPD kiln at 0.47rpm is 10-11hrs,
    500TPD kiln at 0.43rpm is 12-13hrs.
    With the formation of coating the retention time increases progressively.
    Retention Time (T) = π√ϴ x L / PND x 60 Hrs. (Calculation for 350TPD Kiln)
    Where
    L - Kiln Length (72.89m)
    P - Kiln inclination Angle (when slope 2.5% of Kiln length , P = 1.432⁰ )
    N - Actual Kiln RPM (0.35)
    D - Effective Dia. Of the Kiln (3.8 m)
    ϴ - Angle of repose (38⁰)
