There was some short story I recently listened to. The premise was revealed that humans were seeded in a million planets throughout the galaxy. An anthropological survey from a dominant Earth Human Federation arrived at some planet with humans tending trees arrived to assess this planet. One of the surveyors insisted the inhabitants were putting on a “stage play”. I fell asleep before the plot twist was revealed. I cannot remember the title or author.
