This is very sad, but hopefully exciting to start a new cabin build. I am looking forward to your future videos building up your new property from scratch.
found long time ago ,,you move but so does the shitbags out their,, point is their time in your life your have turn and fight,,guy down below ,,force him to leave
Shawn I think I can speak for a lot of your fellow subscribers and say that the loyal ones no matter what will still be following you through the adventures you allow us to watch. So many of us live through you and your videos you post! I wish you the best and I know you’ll make the best out of a crappy situation. Can’t wait to watch the build unfold! Best of luck my friend! Sending love from Pennsylvania!
@@MySelfReliance Ditto. Do what you have to do. Hate that you have to start over...but I've done it and am getting ready to do it for the last time. Hang in there. We'll be with you.
Hello...my name is David Adams. I have been watching your channel for over a year now, and I have truly enjoyed your back to basics style of building and maintaining the homestead. One of the things I love most about it is the fact that you don't explain incessantly in advance your intentions...you just do it, and without a lot of annoying background theme. And when you do have background audio to the videos, it is very soothing, very relaxing. I suffer from PTSD from being a combat soldier in Iraq, and your channel has been tremendous therapy. Having said all that, I want you to know how sorry I am that you are having to relocate because of an annoying neighbor. I understand all too well the need to live in solitude. My wife and I moved to Alaska ( from Tennessee ) a year and a half ago because we were tired of the grind... We wanted peace and quiet...and found a little piece of Heaven here in Wasilla. Anyway, sorry to ramble on. We will continue to watch as you begin your new homestead journey and wish you and your family well. God bless you.
Hi @David Adams that's a very thoughtful and well articulated comment you've written to Shawn and his family. It's sad his neighbours are so intent on making his life hell, after watching them it appears they are motivated by JEALOUS !!! The green-eyed monster, such a self destructive emotion and attitude. I was horrified that people their age would still be so filled with hate, but pretend they're all love n light. Scripture reveals to us the consequences of hate & jealousy. I'll leave all that right there ... I don't need to dwell in their darkness. There is also the matter of an access road running thru Shawn's property and the reason he's had to remove the Long House he built with his mates. I'm saddened, but also glad I got to watch them erect this building and even more so experience the interaction between all these individual wilderness men. I found that incredibly strengthening to my inner being. The bond between men, united in vision and effort. Very stimulating for our future that there are still men able to function in this manner...such fabulous role models for today's young men !!!! I hope you and your wife find the time and peace you seek in your new Alaskan wilderness home. Thankyou for your service to America and her Allies ; I'm sorry you've paid such a heavy price for it tho. I pray you know Jesus as your Saviour and Lord and that you walk with Him daily. And I pray He lifts your PTSD symptoms daily til they are no more. He says He will so let us trust Him together to give you the healing you need. 🙏💞 Forgive my intrusion & rambling but I was led by the Holy Spirit to do so. Be blessed. Be healed. And be proud to be a humble servant of the Lord God most High. From a servant of God in Ipswich Queensland Australia 🤗🙏💞👏
I have been watching your videos and hard work on building your home far in the wilderness. Your hard work ethic is admirable, reminds me of my husband when we have to move from the town to the land where he built a house with his own hands as you did yours. It was on the seventies. My best wishes for your relocation to a safest place for you and your family.
Some people are so uncomfortable with anyone showing feelings that they have to put a label on it. There must not have been the kind of support in his life where how he felt was important to others. May his life improve. May ALL our lives improve.
Unfortunate as it may seem, like you mentioned, the move will be the perfect opportunity to enhance your way of living. Perfect your style of infrastructure and fix all the issues you have noticed over the past few years. I hope while working towards this new goal you find happiness and peace, and I look forward to watching it every step of the way!!! 🙌❤
I didnt know you followed Shawn, Stevie. What a coincidence that i watch both of you videos, you are both great content creators and help me to set goals in life i different ways.
The road that we walk on is paved in gold... Mother Earth makes gold look like moron chickens scraping dirt for to eat rocks... utterly deluded, materialistic sacks of dirty water, raped by 5g, pure idiocy, utterly insane. Ignore the city-dwelling debt-slaves, they don't even Know what Honesty means. Potentially Fraudulent Waste of protoplasm... If it weren't so tragic..., uh, wait, dark comedy fits the picture. Too bad Oedipus is blind... Honor thy Father and Mother means Great Spirit/Father Sky and Mother Earth. Your worldly parents are coppertops. If you don't understand what is going on in the Universe right now, bite your tongue. Not Stevie, not Shawn, but you city-dwelling coppertops with opinions... shut your mouths, and go build something in the any forest, anything, with hand tools... if you survive, after five or ten years, if you could even last two weeks, you wouldn't have said that... the Real Men who have been doing this for multiple lifetimes might pause to admire you, like the perfection of a mosquito, right before the prayer of harvest... May you be reincarnated as an Enlightened Being... splat! Unless you're equivalent to Sir Shawn James, it's just better if you don't criticize what is literally and practically, beyond the Scope of your puny comprehension. Better go watch corrupt news network... give yourself a squirrelly, sit down, and shut your ignorant fly trap. No, Really. Give Love or go home... unless you Know the Divine Nature, One Emanation from One Source, you don't know anything meaningful. Get over yourselves, too many useless to God.
Stevie ! I used to watch all of ure vid before and now i found you on a total different video type ! its kinda funny, lots of love for My self reliance and you
Spent 2 years building my family a house and chose to move on for strangely similar reasons. I am doing the whole process over again having learned from the first round and haven’t looked back. Congrats Shawn, you’ll always have my subscription. Self reliance is a state of mind, not a place.
We are now 10 years in and a similar thing is happening to us. So far out and the traffic is like we are in town. Looking to move on now. Scary and exciting at the same time. Praying your new journey is perfect and peaceful.
I've watched all your hard work on and off over the year or two since I found your channel, I can only imagine how hard it is to make a decision like this. Hearing your explanation, it makes total sense. I'm so sorry that you found yourself in that position, I can only imagine how crushing it was to realize that a road was coming through, let alone issues with the neighbor. Best of luck with the new place, hopefully it will give you the peace and quiet that you're looking for!
Ohm!! I’ve been watching your content daily the last 8 months and just discovered this channel the other day. I cannot believe you’re here! what a pleasant surprise 🤍🤍😂🙏
Cannot imagine how you must feel - leave all the hard work behind - cabin, sauna, kitchen... Wish you a lot of energy and good spirit for the new projects and place!
@John Power Imagine if he rents the place on a site like airbnb. There's people willing to pay quite literally thousands for a week in a place like that.
@@janelinley3624 The one solace here is that at the very least someone else will get to enjoy the fruits of his labor. Hopefully it won't ever get torn down but lived in with great care.
But looking on the positive side, Shawn now has the pleasure of making a new, improved cabin and we, the viewers, have the pleasure of watching him build it. It's a shame that the actions of other people have caused this forced move yet it seems like Shawn has now found the ideal location for the next stage in the life of himself and his family. I wish him all the best.
I hate u gotta move.....I stumbled onto this channel a few months ago, and it's one of my favorites......I fixed my bed watching ur channel!😂 Do what u have to do to keep the family SAFE.....God Bless u, and continue to Keep u........😏 Sending Blessings from Detroit......🦁
This is actually his second cabin; he had a 'practice' cabin many years ago. I'm just wondering how he'll make the transition. Selling now at the peak of this crazy real estate boom would be wise. Is he going to wait to sell until he has a new cabin built? That could be a long time.
I felt this, so much. We experienced a similar issue, only on 5 acres of land. Hardly anyone lived here, and those who did, weren't here all the time. Then the suburban encroachment began, the noise increased, the domestic animals moved the native ones out, then more road-kills of wildlife, because everyone still drives like they're in the city. I watched the beautiful nature filled land, become an exclusive fun-park for adults. Who sadly weren't interested in the assets the land brought, nor improving them. They wanted to bring their suburban dominion to the wilderness. The icing on the cake for us though, was the internet tower they installed at the end of our street. For those who moved here, without knowledge of the wildlife and blissful peace that use to exist here, a tower would be seen as a wonderful improvement. For me though, it was just another reminder that no matter how much I wanted to make THIS place work, it was far removed from the place I moved here for. My memories were all that were left, and I had to let them go. That's what I'm in the process of doing now. We're anticipating a few more years here, as we organise alternatives. In the meantime, I'm growing fruit trees in pots, as a reminder to bring what this place inspired in me, to the new place. So I feel as you disengage, disassemble and begin again. I'll still be here to watch the new chapter, as I write my own.
Sorry to hear that you are going through this also I'm in Texas and as big as this state is there's no way to get away from the hoards of people moving in we're looking to relocate to Alaska in a few years so maybe then I can get some peace and tranquility what state are you in?
@@LeutnantJoker True, this is why we were always locked into living on the outskirts of more built-up areas. Makes you wonder though, will they all move out again when/if the money runs out? Because it's cheaper to buy in these outlier areas, than the cities they're presently escaping. Cashed-up, but the money runs out quickly. We've been here nearly 14 years, and there's always an exodus of sorts, when the drought hits. It comes in cycles. Food becomes more expensive for their livestock pets, and they have to truck in a lot of water. But then some fool always buys the house, believing moving to the countryside, will be the best thing for them. Unfortunately, they don't realise you have to foot the bill for a lot of infrastructure improvements, if you want more water storage. There's no just turning on a tap, like they're used to.
@@rockyreynolds4027 Alaska, wow! That's extreme, but more likely not to attract the sorts you're attempting to escape. No faking it there. I live in a different kind of extreme environment - Australia. We get the intense heat/drought cycles, followed by the intense wet/flood ones. People tend to migrate here, when the weather is good, then discover in the extended dry seasons (which can last years) it's too expensive and dream of returning to their chaotic lives, back in the city. Unfortunately, there's always someone else to replace them, and on the cycle goes. We're onto our second set of neighbours. on one-side, and our third set, on the other. Very few original owners are left on our street, which we are. People come, spend on awful infrastructure that does nothing for the land - just to store all their new mechanical play toys, then within a few short years, they're gone again. If they spent their money on a new dam or more rainwater tanks, they'd have enough water to get through.
Same here in our neighbourhood in Bangalore. The population has Increased so dastrictly in the past 10 years this place is no longer the silent neighbourhood that it was. To add to the discomfort the new people who come here do not respect the peace of the area. They are nouisy in there house and outside . The once perfect neighbourhood for retired people has now become a commercial area with more houses for rent and shops coming up. Sad to see every thing go to urbanisation.
Same here, unfortunately my circumstances (age and lack of financial resources) don't allow me to do anything but hide in plain sight. I must become the calm within the storm. And with the COVID shitshow here in the states, we don't go out much at all anymore anyway.
"Welcome to the cabin" was the perfect signoff. It had more meaning this time than any time before. Keep going. KEEP GOING. You were the first channel I subscribed to on RUclips and you're going to be the last. I am with you. Looks like many, many others are as well. KEEP GOING. We will send you the strength we can.
I have watched from start till now ,and at 70 years old I have had a renewed life watching your adventures. Be safe and carry on ,you're a great man ,with a wonderful family.
It’s a pity you’ve been forced to make these decisions but it’s also exciting at the thought of seeing you redo things with all the advanced knowledge you’ve gained. I for one am looking forward to the new content. You’re an inspiration sir.
In his shoes, I would make sure no one can do that again. I would also build with power tools, solar, reclaimed water, help, etc. Sadly you are not getting younger. But I sure like to watch and wonder what he's doing.
I moved to AK in 1982 and eventually learned they had the highest rate of serial killers per capita than any other US state. You'd think, with all that land and people being spread out, things wouldn't be so dangerous (and for the most part they aren't. Better people you will not find) but a lot of shitty people head to the sticks for the sole reason of evading law enforcement.
@@kcottone do you know that the entire population of planet earth could stand arms length apart in the state of connecticut? I told my 7 year old you were gonna be building a new cabin and he can’t wait! He asks everyday if there’s a new video. Good luck with the move. Looking forward to the new videos
We have a proverb here in Germany: "The most pious cannot live in peace if the neighbor does not like it". So, your decision to move on is fully understandable. I wish you luck and happiness.
I've been following your channel for several years on and off and I must say, with all the time and effort you put into the cabin, kitchen, sauna, outhouse, etc...it breaks my heart that you have to make this decision. You, vicariously, fulfilled one of my lifetime dreams of making a homestead cabin in the wilderness and I'm almost angry on your behalf that you have to let it go. I watched you build that entire area with your own hands and sweat of your brow. It was a pleasure to simply watch. I can only imagine the joy you had building it with your hands. I speak for many people when I say, I feel like it was our viewing home as well. It was an inspiration, that maybe one day some of us could do the same. I still believe that. But I admire your perseverance. Your undeviating focus on self reliance. I'm not just a fan, I am inspired by you. God bless.
YES!!!!!! Sign me up!! I would love to spend a week or two at that cabin! He could even have a list of “chores” for you to do while there. Like chop more firewood than the amount you use so that there’s always enough ready to go firewood on hand. Maybe rake leaves or tend to a garden etc etc. You get the idea. And if he kept the price low enough that everyone can afford to go that would be wonderful. I have a small group of men that would love to go there for a retreat. I’m completely serious about this. Please please please please please please lol
Turn it into a hunting lodge .With afew more cabins .Do some guided hunts.Maybe boyscout camp ... Let the neighbors enjoy .Add 20k diesl generator .Acouple months of that and we would see . Turn it into a retreat with about 10 cabins. Make it into a business. Then reinvest in your other properties. Better yet sell it in lots and develop it, turn it into a town ... Let your neighbor enjoy his new neighbors. ..
You have my sympathy. I went throught the same set of circumstances with my property. People are moving next to me and out of the cities. You are young enough for a restart. I am 90 and left with few options. The best to you and your family and I personally hope you continue with your adventurous spirit as you have provided me with many enjoyable hours.
New beginnings to look forward too! I found your channel a couple years back when you were starting construction on the cabin. Thank you for everything, your videos are my favorite! Stay safe, cheers!
Wow. I’m sorry that your family has been effected by people like that. I was wondering why I haven’t seen your wife in any of the videos lately. Please do what ever is necessary to keep your family safe.
Stay strong, Shawn! Everybody pays for their actions in this life and so shall your neighbors. Thanks for the incredible will to move on, a real motivation for all of us! Blessings
I watched you build this one and every other building will be watching the next as well . Fully understand about not wanting a darn road next to you looking forward to all that comes next .👍
Holy holy holymoly Shawn! Building everything again ? Good lord. Amazing ! What an Energie, power, you have. And i will stay loyal to your Chanel. I am deeply impressed.
We all have to really put on our "thinking caps" when we watch your videos! I find myself 1-wondering what you are about to do and 2-guessing how you will do it. Plus, I try to guess what Cali will be doing to get your attention while you work. 😁 Your videos keep me thinking...it is all good! Thank you!
When you showed the map and that they were going to be putting in a road that close..My heart broke. How hard you have been working to keep the land..land. Those Flags made it even more real, seeing them, made my heart dip deeper in my chest. The way you work to keep nature there It's what drew me into watching your videos, someone who really wanted to keep the land wild but live with it. Knowing now that soon it's all going to be another road through the mountains with a Watch out for deer sign on it makes me just sigh in sadness for that land. I'll still be here to see how the new cabin comes to life, with all those new ways. Thank you for letting us still come along with you. Thank you for sharing your reasons, the stresses that have been coming. It all makes sense now.
Yeah. "Progress." This has been happening for a while now. I'd have thought more people would have noticed it. What was once pristine, untouched land has been cut down, torn up, mowed over and built upon. I respect this man's capabilities for sure. He's incredible, but remember - he went out their first, cut trees down, built homes... destroyed parts of nature himself in order to do what he likes. Now people are gonna complain when others do it? That's just too hypocritical.
Shawn, so many of us can relate to your need for solitude. I hope going forward you would find renewed strength and joy in rebuilding. Your channel is such a blessing, I want to thank you for sharing your experience with us!
This is heartbreaking, but it's understandable. I can't imagine how you are feeling after all that time and passion. That said, can't wait to see what comes next.
The world is shrinking, hate to say it but he's foolish if he doesn't think it will happen again down the road. There really is no such thing as off grid unless your planning on living in the arctic circle or out at sea lol, and even then your dealing with owned airspace overhead and on the waters lol. It's a mess. But so long as he is enjoying the journey is all that counts.
@@marcellogenovese199 building again only an hour away from the old cabin...is that even remote enough again? I wonder. Now it’s going to take what, another year before he’s set up again, by that time his present space will probably be in development by the new people across the way...hopefully his NEW land hasn’t been discovered and encroached upon...I don’t know, just wonder if he shouldn’t have chosen a much more remote Canadian location this time.
Man, that must suck to have to experience that, moving into solitude and then that getting disturbed. Yet, this is exciting and I wish you all the best man. Looking forward to following you on the new journey.
You've provided us with a lot of inspiration over the past few years. I'm really looking forward to the next chapter of your adventure! Keep up the good work, Shawn, and please continue to share your experiences with us. You have a way of making what is diffidcult seem easy. Watching you build your homestead has been an amazing experience!
Dear Shawn, I follow you from Switzerland, Zürich precisely. It happened one day, when RUclips suggest a video that aroused my curiosity. At the beginning, I do not even know you are Canadian, but I keep watching your videos one by one. Always early in the morning during my gym, before I start my work - I am an early bird - and I felt like I was connected to the place. The noises like the screeching snow on your shoes, the frying pan on the fireplace, pouring tea, the hammer blows during work, the singing birds, your beautiful vegetable garden, all that and much more, all had a calming effect on me. I felt like I am part of it, and I would like to thank you for the time. It is a lot of work you are investing to film, cut, upload, etc., I know that.
It is the very first time I have ever posted a comment because I am always very busy and in a rush, but now, now I like to take me the time to do this. I have to say I appreciate the benefits of technology and culture, but I also love the nature and the power it has on me. No wonder when you grow up with it and have the mountains at your doorstep 😊 But I “consume” more and more, consciously, and moderately the "modern world" and I am, and always have been! as much as possible in the nature, hiking, climbing, skiing. But here is not about me now, it is about you. And is not only about what you do, is about how you are as well. It's nice to see - based on the comments - how you inspire, motivate other people and maybe show those who are going through a difficult time right now, that there are always ways and means that they must believe in themselves, in their Own strength to achieve something, but also have to do something for it, it doesn’t come by itself and it is not always easy!, it is hard work, but if you do it from heart, it makes you happy and it has a positive effect on your health. You would not be a typical politician - and that’s good so 😊- but I think, you should consider running for tourism minister, you would surely represent Canada very well. 😊 I hope you do not stop your journey; this is just the beginning of something bigger. Take care. Best wishes and greetings from Zürich, Daniela
Shawn I have been watching your channel for a year. I am from West Virginia, USA. I think that what is influencing you to make your move Is part of the problem we face as humans face in today’s world. Over population, over mingling of people via the internet and last but not least jealousy. I have seen this in my area as well. I can only dream about doing what you have done and I understand it must be really tough for you to have to come to this decision. In the ten years I have been using RUclips I have only felt the need to comment once or twice, but your situation disturbed me very much. I am angry and sad. Your videos of your life have inspired me and hundreds (thousands?) of people if not to try and emulate your endeavors, but those of us unable to for whatever reason. I look forward to following your hard work and excellent videos in the future. God bless, good luck and Godspeed! Shaun from USA
Awe what a kind thing to say, as a Canadian most r just like this beautiful man here, hard working, driven, leader, humble & kind... come on down/up when c19 is done ❤️❤️❤️👉🏻🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦☮️🤩
Been following for 3 years exactly. I am of similar age with two Uni attending sons of similar age to your daughters..happily married, mortgage free and comfortable in suburban London, working as an actor and teacher. I drink only on a Friday, I look forward to this day as it also coincides with your videos. I’m telling you this because I realise that I have become emotionally invested in a man and his lifestyle of whom, I’ve never met. Your news today was gut wrenching...the shitty neighbour and the survey markings ‘cut to the core’ and made me realise that your envious life is not free from the inevitable interference ...APANTHROPINIZATION; the primitive human need to withdraw from society, not through bitterness but to lust in the beauty of nature....great word, isn’t it? But... I am filled with hope that your future endeavours will keep me intrigued and subscribed. ONWARDS SEAN, ONWARDS MY MAN!!! We go again!
I feel like this was the final episode of a season. Then when Sean said welcome to the cabin and walked onto an empty field it was the cliffhanger for season 2
I’ll keep following your journey. I have chf and I’ve been confined at my home for about 4 years now and every time I watched your vids I can see myself at your place and enjoying the fresh air and beautiful scenery. I just want to say thank you for sharing your life to us. Looking forward for your new place. God bless you and your family 💕
and i thought it was just old age starting to set in, i had to abandon my home just outside of Chicago for pretty much the same reason, unable to sell it for the little that was still owed i filed bankruptcy just to get my kids to a safer environment, i dont have the resources to do what you did but i keep that dream alive in hopes i can one day share it with my grandkids, you are a inspiration to us all, thank you for sharing your life experience's with us
Reminds me of the sentiment in the old Dillard’s song... “I heard my neighbor’s rooster crow Early in the day I heard his axe beyond the hill And now I’m bound away For some men love the city life Some men crave the town But I’ll be bound for the lonesome woods Where I can settle down...”
I'm excited to see you building a solid small structure at your new place first. That's a perfect build to quickly settle in, not camp but live, and develop your home or hamlet steadily. The surroundings look even more beautiful than at the old site. I hope you can sell the old cabin at a decent enough price to take away some of the sorrows, leave all the negativity behind, truely enjoy the new wilderness and thrive!
No matter where you move to, no matter what you decide to do, I’m behind you 100%. And will enjoy watching the new build. You’re the best, it’ll be OK‼️🇨🇦
As we say back home. "When the wind of change is blowing, some build shelters and other set sail" It´s nice to se that you have set sail. Hope everything turns out great!
Hi Shawn, I’m a fellow Canadian living on the west (wet) coast looking forward to following you on your renewed journey. I’m 80, living alone with my dawg. We’re going to sit here and watch while you do all the work and we share your ups and downs. Stay safe, my lad and we wish you all the luck you can handle in ‘21🇨🇦
Way back when, in those pristine, frosty mornings I watched you build the cabin and wondered if anyone heard your hammer blows. Dammit. I'm subscribed eternally. Good health and blessings to you and family in this journey, Shawn.
There is a saying you can invalidate a judgment but not a prejudice. People who have prejudices block their own view and can then no longer see things so clearly, if at all.
Why would they just unsubscribe when there is a reason why it had to come down? It wasn't Shawn's decision to do so. His hand was forced by the unfortunate circumstances. They'll be back once they think it over.
I know my comment comes 2 years after your move but I’m so glad you found a nicer piece of land. Love the stream. Good luck in all you do. Love watching you build things. Love all the nature and quiet. 🙋🏻🇨🇦
This is gonna be sweet! I remember when Shawn was just that guy that went fishing with Joe Robinet sometimes, and the very first log cabin videos. Now we get to watch a whole new cabin build... It's like a whole new season of my favorite show just got announced
@@RhinoDNA just think of the first cabin build as a practice run, and now that Shawn REALLY knows exactly what he's doing, it's going to be so much better this time around! Also, having construction crews building a road right next to the old cabin would've likely ruined videos for us viewers. Shawn moving to an even more secluded area is actually much better for us viewers. We should be celebrating this move!
My heart breaks for you having to make this painful decision. I've been watching your channel (s) since you first started to build the cabin. However the only constant is change and I look forward to what your future and your channels bring. Your family is precious. Thank you for sharing your life with us.
When we built our cabin, we lived in the hunting cabin we’d made our home for nearly 30 years. We took as many materials as we could out of it - logs, beams, two by fours from the addition someone had added... In the end there was only a shell. When we pulled it down, ugly, drafty thing with evidence of the mice we sometimes heard in the walls, I still had a moment for all the work we had done and the home we had found peace in. Your longhouse retains the love you and friends have added to the materials. And I found a deep satisfaction knowing the materials have been reused for our security and comfort. Our neighbors to our west had not logged or developed, but it was sold to an out of stater who has made a new road and plans to log it off. It will change how the land will be used by the wildlife, will possibly change the traffic that goes past the cabin (nearly nothing now) and even change the watershed. We will be staying, but things are at a turning point. Best to you, Shawn.
Heartbreaking hearing what has happened, seems like there is no escaping the modern world no matter where you go, genuinely hope the new project works out for you and your family
Your not quitting. Your moving on. You enjoy life. Family is everything. That's what this is all about. Life as we know it is all messed up right now. We will all get through this together.
I’m sorry you have to leave your homestead, I kinda figured with all the publicity you were getting it would only be a matter of time before people would be moving in on you. I admire you for pulling up stakes and starting over
Damn, I'm sorry to hear about the things that have happened and caused you to move. I'm honestly really looking forward to seeing a new cabin being built though - it's such an exciting process to watch :)
That's really depressing. I guess annoying neighbors are even in the wilderness. I like your channel. It provides me with an escape. I guess I get to watch you build a new cabin.
Nothing as bad as annoying neighbours I put up with it for 10years then sold up and moved on, much happier now. Everything happens for a reason. A blessing in disguise I say.
@@lorenenoe4472 he said something happened that the police needed to get involved. I think I missed something too because I can’t understand why people would be mad at him for doing the right thing for his family. If his wife and daughter don’t feel safe, maybe the neighbor is a sex offender? Maybe not. I don’t think it matters if they don’t feel safe that’s big. Can anyone tell me why people would be mad at him? Seems like he’s having something shitty happen to him. He’s the one that put in all that work while we just watched the videos. So I don’t get it 🤷🏼♀️
Heartbreaking, just heartbreaking... I must admire your tenacity to start over again! You, Sir, are an inspiration to us all. Keep up the sprit! Best regards Lars
I’m sorry about your neighbor! I pray that thing workout for you in your new build. Take care of yourself and Cali. I love watching you work. I am always learning new stuff.

You are a person of incredible knowledge, skill, and commitment. It isn’t for any of us to say one way or another what you should be doing. Wish you the very best as your journey continues and safety for you and your family.
I have just recently found these videos and have enjoyed them immensely! The inner peace it has helped to conjure within me has been priceless. Thank you Shawn, your decision to move is completely understood. I wish you every success in what ever you do!
He's not really a crappy neighbor it's just a really unfortunate situation that the cabin was built near the access to that other property. Not sure if a survey was done before he bought this property but if it was and they didn't tell him there could be an access going through that location then they messed up because that should have been included in a full survey of the property.

Much love brother! I’m sure it’s ups and downs of being happy to build a new homestead but the heartache of leaving what you’ve done. I’ve been watching you for the last 2-3 years but after your initial cabin was built. I’ve enjoyed in all and you have inspired me to save over the last few years to save up for my own land here in the states. I have a young family which is hard and makes me feel selfish at times but after 2020, I think it’s better for all of us to just start over and be more self reliant.

Yeah, and betcha some of those who unsubbed will be back. 😊
Did you actually find out the weapons of Mass Destruction there?
Thank you for your service Sir

Some people are so uncomfortable with anyone showing feelings that they have to put a label on it. There must not have been the kind of support in his life where how he felt was important to others. May his life improve. May ALL our lives improve.

Heart breaking. I'm personally buying 500+ acres and setting up shop in the middle of it. It will be interesting seeing you on your new journey.
On the positive side, you've built your "practise" cabin, and what you've learned will make the "forever" cabin just that much better.
I agree - his next cabin is going to be epic!
Yeah that’s one amazing “practice” cabin😊❤️
3 stories with a double garage base and fibre-optic broadband! 😀
This is actually his second cabin; he had a 'practice' cabin many years ago. I'm just wondering how he'll make the transition. Selling now at the peak of this crazy real estate boom would be wise. Is he going to wait to sell until he has a new cabin built? That could be a long time.
They say “build your first house for an enemy, the second for a friend and the third for yourself”.
@@rockyreynolds4027 Takes the right job to be able to move into peace and quiet and still get enough money going.

God bless.

No wonder when you grow up with it and have the mountains at your doorstep 😊
But I “consume” more and more, consciously, and moderately the "modern world" and I am, and always have been! as much as possible in the nature, hiking, climbing, skiing.
I hope you do not stop your journey; this is just the beginning of something bigger.
Take care.
Best wishes and greetings from Zürich, Daniela
Shawn
I have been watching your channel for a year.
@@wandasteeves5239 This is very nicely said Wanda. I am thinking about coming over for a trip, indeed. Hope the c19 is over soon. Big hug :) Daniela

Brilliantly put
Bring on the next episode!
Absolutely heartbreaking man. Im sorry all this happened to you, and I hope you will be able to find peace and solitude
and i thought it was just old age starting to set in, i had to abandon my home just outside of Chicago for pretty much the same reason, unable to sell it for the little that was still owed i filed bankruptcy just to get my kids to a safer environment, i dont have the resources to do what you did but i keep that dream alive in hopes i can one day share it with my grandkids, you are a inspiration to us all, thank you for sharing your life experience's with us
Reminds me of the sentiment in the old Dillard’s song...
“I heard my neighbor’s rooster crow
Early in the day
I heard his axe beyond the hill
And now I’m bound away
For some men love the city life
Some men crave the town
But I’ll be bound for the lonesome woods
Where I can settle down...”

It's not quitting. It is a continuation, and it's pretty exciting. I can't wait to follow your new adventure.
People unsubscribing jumped the gun a bit, they should have at least waited for the explanation. 💯% their loss!
Unfortunately that's the world we live in. Folks seem to act more in haste and use less common sense.
Thanks for helping me have a new perspective...I was so sad, but now I'm really excited!
I'm looking forward to watching your new journey. I missed the start of this one and am elated to see a new, more directed and better homestead
Nice to see you here :)
Go hard or don't go at all
I’m sorry you have to leave your homestead, I kinda figured with all the publicity you were getting it would only be a matter of time before people would be moving in on you. I admire you for pulling up stakes and starting over

It's good that you're going to allow someone else to enjoy the cabin, that thing is a masterpiece. Looking forward to what you do next!
Even all the way up there in the remote wilderness of Canada, there is still that "one guy" that is a crappy neighbor...smh
Yeah that's a damn shame
He's not really a crappy neighbor it's just a really unfortunate situation that the cabin was built near the access to that other property. Not sure if a survey was done before he bought this property but if it was and they didn't tell him there could be an access going through that location then they messed up because that should have been included in a full survey of the property.
I mean he could be crappy for other reasons but not this one necessarily lol
@@MC-zr7hl Reading between the lines.. one can almost hear a hint of a sex offender or violent ex-con... as his wife and daughter 'don't feel safe' at the cabin anymore.
