Hi Shaun I liked your video even before I finished the video. I have a question what happens if someone decides on a different area of residency during their transitional residency year?
You got it. Most dont make it to where you are. The first few days are the hardest but you will be great. You cant be so good looking with beautiful pups and not be a star.
That means a lot, seriously thank you. Also, I know things are tough right now. M1-M3 is the worst. I hit a low point myself during M3. Keep on pushing through, it gets better!
There is a point in residency where you realize "wait, I kinda know what I am doing now..." It comes out of nowhere. I am sure you will get there soon! Good luck this year!
I’m a FMED Residency Manager and I really enjoy your videos. It’s fun to see how other residencies operate! Our residents run all codes/rapid evals and have an inpatient service every day.
As someone who has decided to pursue medical school late, I am truly inspired by a person like you. As of now I am a sophomore in undergraduate that is majoring in math, and I have just started the pre-med requirements over this summer. I shadowed a neurosurgeon and loved it, but I stay hopeful because I am constantly doubted by others given my unique academic background. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck on your journey. Keep grinding!
thats so awesome! :) its a long path, but keep on going. Youll doubt yourself every day but use that doubt to encourage yourself to keep on going. Youll do great!
A great lesson I learned as a PGY2 that has helped me a lot is creating dot phrases for common complaints. Reading up to date and check to make sure I'm asking all the relevant questions helps to streamline my thinking, physical, and planning portion. The EMR can be your friend.
@@ShaunAndersen What’s up Shaun, been watching since you were about to start med school! I’m currently a PGY-2 in PM&R and used Meditech last year at my TY. If you have dictation software at your hospital, you can create templates (commands) through that (even as simple as a signature, full physical exam, progress note physical exam, etc). Apart from commonly presenting complaints/issues, you can also add a command for a general A/P template as well for other cases. Otherwise, you can have a word doc or something with your faves to copy paste. Good luck, love the content!
@@DanielRuizDrums yo this is actually fire advice! I didnt think to start adding more shortcuts to the dictation software. I am totally going to start doing that this week man! thank you! And best of luck with your second year!

"Highway to hell" on the way to work then worst day ever. Try "Hakuna Mattata" next time 😅
I can tell you like We The Kings 😆
they’re always a vibe 👀
1 patient to start! Me crying as I started on 5 patients on my first day and quickly was ramped up to 9 :')
Lol I ended up getting more :') we got this though!!
I was just wondering, are your dogs going to go with you to San Diego next year?
That is the plan! :) I’d miss them too much
When you talk about doing didactics for residency, do you do didactics for that month of whatever service you’re on or is it about anesthesiology?
We have didactics specific for the medicine program im at! Next year itll all be specific to anesthesiology!
your eyes aged so much just from looking at the start and mid-to-end of the video. Oh lord! It must be hectic to not catch a breath. I love being a doctor, & I hope I will have what it takes to do all the charting, admission, and discharge paperwork. You do make it look easy despite having to stay almost 3h post your time just writing notes.
Highway to hell going to the hospital is the most real thing ever :D
its the most fitting song tbh 😂😂
LMAO I noticed that in the previous vlog and was wondering if anyone else had noticed the timing 😂😂😂
