Which Kilz product would you use on a hardwood floor. I bought an old home and when we bought it they had cats/dogs. I pulled up the carpet and padding but I'm looking to install a new floor. Not sure which killz to paint onto it ....thank you
If you have an actual hardwood floor, I wouldn't put Kilz on it. If you are talking about subfloor - just talk to your local paint store, and they can make specific recommendations for your situation.
@@capellflooringCan you explain why it shouldn't be used o hardwood floors? I have 100 year old hardwood messed smelly floors. What can I do? Please and thank you
This can be situational. Regarding the dry time, look at the directions from the manufacturer. It tends to dry quickly, though. We have found that many times, one coat will do it, but again, without seeing your situation, it is hard to say. More than one coat definitely won't hurt anything, and it is good to be thorough. Good luck!
It doesn't take too long to dry, just read the directions on the can. There are different types of kilz and they have slightly different recommendations.
It can take up to an HR or more to dry, but I waited 24 hrs using a fan to first air out the area before painting. It helps the subfloor dry up if you moved into a new home like us, and apparently the previous owners NEVER took their dogs out. It's been awful, but the new flooring is nice and the kilz has helped lock the door down. We also used an enzyme type of sealer to help first just in case. I would hope the primer works regardless of having that though.
We have had really good luck with this one: www.lowes.com/pd/KILZ-Restoration-Interior-Multi-Purpose-Water-Based-Wall-and-Ceiling-Primer-1-Gallon/5001701633
Read the paint can. 😊 It varies slightly depending on what version you bought. I’m giving general guidelines, you still need to defer to the manufacturer. Good luck
I'm talking if you are replacing the carpet and pad then it is good to kilz the floor. I'm not entirely sure what you are asking.....I'm sorry - if the urine is in the pad then you want to replace the carpet and pad too.
My experience is it smells bad until the next morning. If it is bugging you, I’ve used fans before to blow it away from where I was. Smells and things of that nature vary greatly from one person to another though so it really depends on how you react to smells. 👍👊😀
Dries to the touch in 30 minutes. Can be recoated or topcoated in one hour with latex or oil-based paint. Application at lower temperatures, in high humidity or in poorly ventilated areas will affect dry time.
@@kristinb6500 I imagine they would be fine. Of course you wouldn’t want them to walk through it. You most likely should just double check and read the warnings on the paint can to make sure.

How many coats of Kilz would you recommend? Two? Three?
Also, how long would you let it dry before starting your new flooring?

How long should you wait after painting with the kilz before laying the carpet?

please help i painted my concrete floor with kilz original over a month ago and there is still a horrific chemical smell
When using kilz restoration do you need to take your animals out of the house
What type of animals are we talking about? That might be a better question to ask kilz for those kind of details.
