Imagine writing a song so perfect and timeless that over 30 years after its release 10’000’s people sing it back to you and go nuts dancing to it... that’s something very, very special!
How sad and sorry must be the lives of 17 people who even bothered to click the dislike button. I feel sorry for you. This is real music and a soul uplifting live performance. Bravo.
This is great. "Sail Away" is performed beautifully...faultless performance...then into the crowd pleasing "Dignity". Of course they had to play "Dignity"! "Great singing, you Glasgow people!!" Indeed. 2:52 Some nice playing there from Mr piano man, James Prime, great job. Love this soooooooooo much.
@@endure_the_rain they used to practice in a hall near my house when i was a kid, and 3 days a week , the swimming pool attached was closed, so as not to disturb poor wee Marti. also, theyre from Clydebank, so theres that.
Communal singing at its best- audience and band as one in a rousing rendition of one of the most heartfelt songs ever written about the dignity of the working man and woman in the face of the daily grind and the toll it takes on all of us whether we realise it or not.
@@jongreen4373 Thank you. Four years later life for working people is more hopeless than ever. As they sang at the same concert ( in Loaded, I think), keep your hand on your wages and other lines about working class solidarity. In 1989 there was still a chance it could change for the better but the seeds of the current mess were sown by then.
it's always an instant adrenaline buzz watching Loraine get up and start dancing and singing her heart and soul out. one of the best written songs ever this song.
I love this particular performance. The feel, the crowd, the atmosphere, the words and especially the transition into one of the best songs ever written 'Dignity'. Always makes me very emotional. Just a masterpiece in song writing. Thanks for posting.
I first heard this song when, I was painting the hull of a Morecambe Bay Prawner named "PollY". I had tingles down my spine, I still have. My mum was frm Glasgow, my father a Lancashire Blacksmith... Since then I've read some of Maynard Keynes (I first thought he was a magazine editor), I've studied Naval Architecture, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering (and I know they all have complexities beyond my present ken). And I love Deacon Blue the same as ever I did the first time I became aware of them... didactic and all... Merry Xmas one and all, you and yours …
My dad was a worker for the council for 20 years and packed his lunch in his sunblest bag. My brother picked this song for his funeral. Not my dad's funeral. My brothers own funeral. 6 th October 2022 age 54.
Thank-you guys. Thank-you for having the foresight to record these amazing performances of your great and timeless songs and for uploading them here in such high quality.
A wonderful rendition of this great song reminding me home sailing from Brownsea Island up the river to Wareham in Dorset.Where has all the time gone so stuck in the land locked Midlands. Looking forward to seeing you live in Birmingham in Nov!!
just brilliant the sound is amazing as well thank god for you tube to go back and re-live decent bands live instead of the rubbish you get now (sound just like my parents lol)
the best version of this song has got to be Recorded Live At Barrowland On 2nd. April 1988 For Radio Clyde it came as a 7" single along with the Raintown vinyl album. Would pay lots just to listen to that version again quite close to this one, mind you
It's funny the line, 'sipping down Raki and reading Maynard Keens,' neither of which I have ever done, rings so true to my life. Not sure cider and John Le Carré carries the same kudos! But that's me!!
Keynes ( pronounced Kains) though it does not rhyme with raki. I used to be partial to cider but found it so strong that one pint would be equivalent to three of any other beer so I decided to steer well clear of it around thirty years ago! Not sure I could read anything while drinking cider, to be honest.
And what a soulful and underrated singer Lorraine is. So good.
her singing must be an acquired taste... no offense...
When you’ve got thousands of people singing your song to you, that’s when you know you’ve made it
Well said......

What about the unemployed - is it not for them?
And everyone works, so what income bracket constitutes “working people”?
