Love the paths, well done! Using the stones and logs was so smart. The chips will settle in and decompose, so you can layer them thicker than you might think.

The new paths are a great improvement. I love the look with the rock border on the one path and the fence on both sides of the other. Your flowers look beautiful. I too have suffered from all the rain. Plants that rotted and others waterlogged.
I'm so sorry about your beautiful little girl. Maybe help her out with a dish of shelled, raw sunflower seeds, walnut pieces and unshelled peanuts. If that is her tree, place the dish under her tree so she doesn't need to travel as far. Also, a small water dish for her. They seem to recover quickly from injuries. Prayers for a good recovery 🙏

I have to admit I wasn't too sure when you mentioned using the logs as a border.....but....I absolutely love the logs mixed with the rocks. It looks like it belongs there, with the "woods" in the back. Have a good week.

Love the new pathways! Especially like the slow but steady progress you are making-so relatable! I like the black fencing around your garden area-kind of delineates the garden area from the pathway. Maybe when you are able to get the rocks out from under your bay window, you and hubs could try the dry pour concrete method of getting a concrete pad there(check RUclips for how to videos). I agree that it would look so good!😊❤❤

The pathways look wonderful. You’ve inspired me.
If you have a natural resource area close, you can check with them to see if there is a rehab for squirrels in your area. You can put out a squirrel trap to catch Sweetie. Or of course let nature take care of it. Hopefully she will recover on her own. ❤

Hey Jodi! Not much going on here lately in the yard, it’s just to hot in Florida. I’ve just been mowing and weed was whacking that’s it.
    🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃
Here in Florida the cardboard cover does not last long because of our moisture aka humidity so I have to do card board and weed barrier. And we don’t have cold winters to kill off the weeds. Aka snow.
    🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃
The cardboard decomposes fast here and we sometimes have double up the cardboard layers. Also we buy the expense commercial grade weed barrier at Home Depot I think it $85 a roll, expense but worth it. We have bought the cheap stuff in the past and stuff still grows through it.
    🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃
I also buy pine bark nuggets at home depot, Its’s Big chunks of mulch and don’t decompose as fast.
    🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃
We have redone the front landscaping 4 or 5 times because it got so dang weedy. This last time has lasted and the weeds are minimal and mostly only growing on top of weed barrier from not underneath which is easy to pull up.
    🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃
Short story long it has held up since last redo February 2023 with minimal weed pulling in the edges mostly. And I use my homemade weed Killer of salt, vinegar and Dawn dish’s soap on that works great!

Wow. I wrote a lot but utube deleted it again. Ugh.
Chip pile.... suggestion: load and move in the rain. Then spread out afterwards.
Everything looks good. Logs+ rocks = parks do that same setup around curved pathways often.
Great cage for sunflower seems to help a lit.
Squirrel: DON'T BRING IT INSIDE ...trust me. Please.
    Zinnias looking good. 🦋 Good.
Patio: at end of season many places have those on clearance. Get what you can, store in shed until ready to use. Mix + match = unique patio design!
Yellow jackets attracted to "rotting wood" or shred piles for nest building.
Im hanging out & working on exercises for mobility improvements of elbow/arm. That's it. 😆

Since I'm unable to get chip drop and they got rid of the county place we could pick up wood chip mulch or finished compost from it, I buy fine pine bedding shavings from tractor supply. Goes way further than mulch from a place like Lowes and also doesnt have a bunch of dyes and chemicals since it is supposed to be pet bedding.

I love the logs and rocks border. It looks like you're walking along a state forest trail. Maybe The Hubs would like it if you added a log and placed one end on the ground and one end on top of the end of the first one. To give the illusion of having fallen there. Or three logs, two on the bottom and one on top in a pyramid shape. Something more defined might appeal to him more. But I like it however you do it. Looks great!

Check if you have a rehabber in your area. There are people that can help with wild animals. We have a wildlife center but I'm not bringing anymore yard birds there and will look for a rehabber instead. We had a bird that had an injury to it's wing and they euthanized it because they had too many to take care of. If you have a fb wildlife page in your area they can probably help you find one. Hope it's a mild injury and she'll be back to her old self soon. The yard looks great. I really like the wood and rocks. Reminds me of what I see at national parks.

I am so glad you posted. I just discovered the most interesting tree in our yard. I knew the flowers were unique and gorgeous but I had not had the time while it was blooming to look it up. But, then I noticed that the leaves literally changed before my eyes right before a storm and had to look it up. It is called a Mamosa or silk tree. It is gorgeous and easy to grow with plenty of rain and direct sunlight. I didn't know if you might be interested but I thought you would at least find this interesting. The leaves curl up literally with in a few minutes when a storm is coming. It is the coolest thing to see.

In Australia we have a weed mat that we lay before adding wood chips. It stops all weeds. The cardboard works for a bit but eventually weeds will come through. Weed mat reduces work to never have to weed again. I would recommend you check it out for future jobs.

    • @jodidunnmymessylife1847
      @jodidunnmymessylife1847  3 месяца назад

We laid down weed mats (we call it weed barrier) 2 years ago in all the beds in the front. Worked great for about 18 months. Now the weeds are coming through. I personally would never use weed barrier again because it doesn’t last long, it doesn’t break down and it’s nearly impossible to get it all up once you’ve covered it with mulch or wood chips. The previous owner had also put weed barrier all over the yard and I have weeds galore 😂😂
With cardboard I might have to replace every couple of years but it breaks down and enriches my soil. You must have different options in Australia if it stops the weeds long term ❤️

It's been a few months, Iv missed you. The back woods is coming to life, it looks beautiful. I kept telling myself everyday, I need to watch A Jodi video, you always cheer me up with your positive attitude. Ugggg, I've been nursing our doggo since around July 8th, it's been 1 thing after another, She was hospitalized with liver failure for about 5days, Yes,I was literally sick with worried, her chief enzymes are coming down from the 2,000 mark she was at.
Anyways, I know your videos are about life as it is, So,I'm gonna go ahead and throw this out there.
Jodi, I and the Dr's have no idea what's happened to her toxicity vs. this vs.that. I've been educating myself as much as possible on what I think could have happened to her, 1 of the articles I read in the Merke vetinary manual was about MUSHROOMS, I heard you say, you had mushrooms in your yard, Please make sure they are not poisonous, our Abby is a Labrador with an unsationable appetite, if the mushrooms we had growing were poisonous, it's a good possibility she ate them. Just wanted to give you a heads up

Dahlias new location needed. Or try building a "berm" to plant them in to keep them above the water standing areas. Congratulations on all the improvements.

Oh poor Sweetie. I would have made a little place for her with a bed ,food, and water. Telling my husband that “she needs me”. I’m a sucker for all animals 🤓 Your garden is beautiful and the new pathways are awesome. Hope Sweetie gets better soon. 🐿️Heather

Does your town give away free mulch/compost? When they collect the leaves in the fall, they usually have it ready in spring at a town facility.

You could definitely edge the side of the walk way with the wood. That would look so great. 💖
Edited got to the end it looks Fabulous
Just goes to show working an area at a time really works. Well done. Looking forward to see the next bed. 💖

I am finally cleaning out my garage. I got to throw away my husband's old mustang seats for the mustang we sold 4 years ago. I can finally walk through the garage unimpeded.

We don't have chip drop where I live, but we live in a logging town and when the processing companies have extra ends of wood or wood chips they put them out at the side of the road for the locals to pick up for free.

Our bedroom remodel is finally finished! What should have cost us $50 for a second gallon of paint and taken 2 days ended up taking 6 weeks and $700.00!
The hardwood floor under our 1980’s mauve carpet had water damage beyond repair so we installed a new laminate floor. It took longer then normal because my husband had another Pickleball injury to his knee 2 days before we started our project! 🙄
We are so happy with the results but dang this one about did me in!😁

There's a lot of wildlife or specifically squirrel rehabilitators in the states, Google or call a local vet/humane society/aspca for a contact
