    You’re absolutely right when you say a lot of us don’t have enough money left because we do other things and then come back to pay bills.
    That’s what has led me to budgeting. I’m hoping to make a change in 2024.

    When I began trusting God and giving at least 10% in offering, God truly made/makes a way. I also do not use cash for gas. I have a separate checking account for gas only. This helps me to stay in budget for gas. Congrats on 40K!!!

    I love your detailed explanation and demonstration! I got a better understanding of how to work out the zero based budget. What resonated the most is completing the worksheet on or right before the payday to put money where it needs to go before it’s gets spent and you find out you don’t have enough money for the bills for that paycheck because you spent it on variable expenses. I also have the BBP workbook and will be reconciling each paycheck beforehand so I don’t overspend on variable expenses before getting the bills paid. Thank you for taking the time showing the real life application of this method!

    For gas, I have a specific account just for gas. I have gas cards linked to that account to get discounts as well as protect my funds from possible fraud. I work in fraud and have seen too often people’s accounts get hacked through their debit cards. If something happens to my “fuel” account, it’s not affecting my Bill money. It also helps me see how much I’m spending in gas.

      You are so right. I get two paychecks a month. One is deposited into the bank that has my mortgage and the other is deposited into my Credit Union. I naturally pay mortgage and one credit card out of that account. Everything else is out of credit union and I pay all other debt and expenses from there on the 25th, even if not due until the 15th of next month. Thank you for your encouragement.

    Hi Budget Treasures! Gosh you are such a great explainer of zero based budgeting. I agree with all the beautiful comments of how calmly and knowledgeable you explain following through budgeting direction on the form you are using to budget with. Having good patient teachers like you really helps to get the concept of following the order of the budget. This was a detailed lesson in budgeting. I loved the way you broke down deciding where your money should versus could go. The way you talked yourself through the decision process was so important, yet simple. But if you don’t have a system, or know how to follow it, then you don’t have a path to follow. You did an amazing job of inspiring me to paying off my debt first, before letting my lack of control or “order” lead me to spend money in “variable expenses” instead of paying off debt. Your detailed and non-rushed explanation helped me see that. Thanks again, a light bulb went off in my head! Lol 😮😅
    If I make a more deliberate, consistent effort to pay the debt off first, that will lead to money being freed up to later free up more money to then allocate, or put into the sinking funds. Please tell me if I have this right? The sinking funds are like little individual savings accounts for things you need or want to get, but putting aside saving the money first, in an envelope or account, before spending the money. Saving for things in the sinking funds, instead of putting something on a credit card or worse, blowing the cash you didn’t save for whatever and then blowing your budget, right? Wow, your explanation was step-by-step and your demonstration was so visual and clear to me. Thank you so much for your time and effort to help me understand this better. Praying for continued success with your channel, may you continue to help others have the light bulb experience! Congratulations on your growth on your channel too!!!!!!!! Arlene (Miami)😊

    "Every dollar has a job." I like that! And, it works. We did our first paycheck budget as well. We accounted down to the penny; yay! One sinking fund we created is "ingredients for holiday food". We cut way down on our intake of carbs and sugar so I don't bake much at all anymore. Except, for the holidays I do the traditional baking. This past Nov. and Dec. I realized - in the front of my brain - how costly ingredients are. So, we now have a sinking fund for it; haha. I know I'm gonna be happy we did this come this November.

      I know you didn’t ask for opinions, but just wanted to send some encouragement your way. You’re doing the right thing! I had a .50¢ composition notebook laying around when I first started in 2020, and I just used a pen and wrote everything out, including a calendar. I’m still using that composition book. This is the last year though, it’s full now. Admittedly, as I started doing better, I bought colored pens and highlighters, and I’m still going with that system. And even for 2025, I already have another composition book ready to go. It’s a Lisa Frank I found on clearance. Yah, I’m an 80’s lady, LOL. Keep going, you can do it.😊

    So far so good on my no spend January. It’s so hard with tomorrow being Saturday and usually spending that day out and about and not worrying about how much I spend. Gonna just stay in and do house stuff!

    So, to ensure I’m understanding correctly, you added the $5.67 to your bill account as a buffer and that’s where the overage will be allocated going forward?

    • @BudgetTreasures
      @BudgetTreasures  10 месяцев назад +2

      I put the $5.67 in my "spending" account which is essentially a buffer for expenses. My bill account buffer will remain in my bill account. I hope that clarified.

    Question how do you know your monthly totals and what you can spend this way?
    I see it working for you ..
    For me I add all my monthly bills ,then multiple my chk by 4.
    Then weekly I pay those bills knowing I should have some money left.

  • @lalamcrich3682
    @lalamcrich3682 9 месяцев назад

    I think the confusion with the money left over is a lot of people’s expenses are majority of their income. Some people don’t know how to cut back so that their bills are 60-70% of their income which will allow them to have money left over for variables and goals.

    I am struggling with my tracking. I just set up envelopes with grocery, gas, household, etc…
    Here’s my issue- I am a big rebate user and this is messing up my tracking since I am trying to separate categories. Today I spent $124.05 at Walmart and $60 of that was cat litter that was on rebate apps and ended up costing less than 1/2 the original price. I am wondering if I should keep my grocery budget and rebating budget together or try to keep them separate. I really want to keep track of my actual grocery costs but having to do so many different transactions to keep separate is messing me up!
    I wanted to do a no spend but I could not pass up cat litter for less than 1/2 price (it’s a deal that doesn’t come around often). Otherwise I am doing great. I picked up only milk, bread and yogurt and we should be good on all other food for at least another week. Very happy with expenses 4 days in😃

    • @BudgetTreasures
      @BudgetTreasures  10 месяцев назад

      That is good. I am glad to hear that your spending is better. I really do not understand the rebate system so it would be difficult for me to speak on that. I am thinking that you have to spend money and get money back...I would say...If you do not need it, the rebate is not worth it..You would save 100% and not 60% if you do not spend. I hope that I am answering this correctly...😩 But overall, I am glad that you are overall saving...

    • @jenniferrosenthal7731
      @jenniferrosenthal7731 10 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, I spent the money to get the money back. I bought only items today that I actually needed and as soon as the rebates go through (which is typically 30 mins to 2 hours) I transfer the money back to my checking account. But then it’s in my checking again and I feel like I need to go back to the bank to get the cash and put it back into the appropriate envelopes. I will probably get used to doing it, it’s just different for me that’s for sure! My main goal for the year is to coupon/rebate less unless it is a need or something that will be a need in the near future. I hope that all makes sense.
      Thank you for your response and your great videos!

      @@jenniferrosenthal7731 Thank you for explaining this. Yes couponing can be addictive and expensive. I am glad that you are working on using up what you have.

      @@jenniferrosenthal7731 I stick to original budget nevertheless. Say groceries budget is 75 a week, if I buy bulk on sales something worth 30, it goes to the budget anyway. It means you will not spend on it upcoming week. If your bill is 35 and you use saved bonuses of 25, it just means you get more products on less money. It is easier for me to think that way

      I’d probably keep the rebate back in the check account and keep as an additional buffer, you never know what’s around the corner. Buffers are godsend, groceries go up…you have buffer and can re-evaluate your grocery budget next month. Spend too on gas/transit then re-evaluate etc…or crap day you’re out get that coffee drink with friends/coworkers 😊

    I might be a little slow but when you zero out your budget does that mean there will be zero in the account after everything is paid and cash stuffed?

    • @tidegirl6526
      @tidegirl6526 10 месяцев назад +2

      You're not slow there is a lot to learn but it is pretty easy once you get it. Speaking for myself, I keep a few hundred dollars in my "buffer" category so I have a little cushion.

    • @BudgetTreasures
      @BudgetTreasures  10 месяцев назад +3

      You are not slow. I thought the same thing for years. Zero budget just means that you have a job for every dollar. Example. You have a checking account and after you have paid bills, you have $300 left over. With that $300, you have to give it something to do. If you want it to be a buffer, leave it in the account and the job of the $300 is to be a buffer. If the $300 will be used to spend on miscellaneous things, that would be the job of the $300….I really hope that makes sense.
