For the question "can you mix cleaver with lethality?" idk if I'm wrong of what I've heard but..
The answer is yes, and here's why.
Lethality works by reducing the total amount of armor by a flat amount. If you have lethality of 40 and enemy has 100, then his armor will be reduced by 40 and will be 60 now.
Armor penetration reduces the enemy's armor by percentage. If enemy has 100 armor and you have like 30% armor PEN, then 100 * 0.30 = 30 and 100 - 30 = 70, 70 armor left for him.
Now, for the question.
Armor penetration syncs with lethality perfectly. It is because the armor pen's calculation takes place as first while the lethality is at the last place. This is what it looks like:
Armor: 100
Armor PEN: .30 (30%)
Lethality: 40
100 * .30 = 30 (this is the 30% of 100 armor)
100 - 30 = 70 (armor minus the armor shred)
70 - 40 = 30 (now subtract it with lethality)
30 (the final armor enemy have now)
And there you go, armor penetration fits perfect with lethality.

The question isn't whether armor penetration works with lethality - it's a very well known fact that armor pen is really good with lethality and basically mandatory for any assassin by the mid to lategame.
The question is whether a bruiser item which gives health and rewards you for fighting the same target for an extended period works in an assassin build.
