Welcome aboard an EA-18G Growler catapult shot off the TR (CVN-71) in 2017 in the Arabian Gulf. This was a MAX power Case I launch off catapult 2 on a day, 1.5 hour sortie. Fly Navy!

FANTASTIC Videos! Thank you for your service. Thank you for protecting my family!
THANK YOU CPT. I BELIEVE YOU ARE,... YOU DIDNT GIVE THE THUMBS UP,,, HA!! WE DID THAT IN THE 70-80S ... GREAT VIDEO...
Best feeling ever...especially when your 214 is waiting for you in the States and you never have to be on a carrier again.
Thank you for your service. USA 🇺🇸
This is by far the best carrier videos I have ever seen. My imagination goes with every flight. Thank you and please continue.
Interesting video. Thank you for your service.
WOW - Thank you Growler!
Hi, thanks for your service, you really do have the best job in the world. Was and always will be, my dream, stay safe up there 🤘🔥

One word! AWESOME! Thanks
Awesome perspective! May I feature this takeoff in one of my next episodes? Of course with a link back to your original video. Cheers!
Absolutely! Thank you. I am trying to monetize my account. I am going to create an email account for Growler Jams. I’ll post it on this thread after I do. Would you mind reaching out to me by email? I really like your channel and would like to learn from your success. Give me a day or so. Cheers!

Hey, what video is it? I'm just wondering.
Pilotos excelentes👏👏👏👏👏👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇧🇷.
RESPECT!
Hey dude, what sort of watch is that your wrist? We are a watch enthusiast podcast and I can’t help but be curious. BZ on the vids and thanks.
Swiss Tungsten Sapphire
Sure took long enough to launch off. He could have eaten a lunch while waiting to get fired off the deck.
Is that helmet from WW1?
The reason why they need a catapult is their hugh balls of steel weigh them down.
Bad ass!!
If it was me in the cockpit, I would be hopelessly lost on the deck of the carrier. Where am I?
Just watch the yellow shirts (called plane captains). They are marshaling the aircraft on deck. When the aircraft has met up with a plane captain he’ll wave/direct pilot to observe the next plane captain and so on down the deck.
Not to worry...there is a really nice guy in the tower called the Air Boss. He will gently remind you if you make a mistake.
@@scottw5315 I'm sure it's obvious, but by "gently remind you" do you actually mean "rip you a new one"?
If that ain’t awesome, nothing is!
Odd illusion of movement given by the steam blowing over the deck.
it's actually water vapor. steam is invisible. :)
I wonder if CQ…and no salute?
TR Plankowner...
Pilot's helmet is cracked.
Nope. Just stickered up.
Hello growler James my name is well Christian and I want to join the navy and fly and I just want to know was boot camp hard and how does it feel to fly and just be in a Fighter jet
It's tough...just like everything worthwhile. Flying TACAIR has always been my dream. It's a lot of work and it is not what the movies make it out to be. Lots of deployments, missing holidays and time with my family. It's a lot of fun, but it comes at a cost.
@@GrowlerJams oh wow that was really motivating what you said I never knew that you guys missed some holidays well yea y’all are on duty but never like that I knew the movies wouldn’t show everything but I’m happy you told me and I’m still gonna try to become a fighter pilot I hope you will remember my name and you never know you might see me on an aircraft carrier one day
@@GrowlerJams and 1 more question what type of jet do you fly?
@@christianAlston806 It's an EA-18G Growler - the Electronic Warfare variant of the F/A-18F Super Hornet
@@Savoycabbage oh ok thx
You have my deepest respect for what you do!! 🙏
This channel deserves way more subscribers
I can give 1 more.
Agreed, one more added☝️
Yes and no, this a 8 videos channel only about growler aircraft. Not every1 are into that,
@@benoitnadeau5845 not everyone is into fighter planes launching off a carrier, refueling and landing? why the hell did they even click on the video then
I am sure eventually this channel will.
The Navy Pilots are the BEST. The Navy is the. BEST
I wanted to be a fighter pilot but wound up an A&P. Worked on the F-35 assembly line for 8 years. Retired now. Life is good. Thanks for what all y’all do every day.
Love these videos. No Bs, just the real deal.👍🏼
Hey Growler thanks for another great vid. I know this will read as corny but some of us (retd 🇨🇦 Army) appreciate you serving freedom - my government has terrible track record on defence (way too willing to live under US defence without saying so).
I'm binge watching these videos. You are seriously to cool for words. 👍🏻👍🏻
Awesome man for taking the rest of America along with you. You aviators are the Real Top Guns.
I love this view! Makes me wanna fly.
My son's ship USS Nimitz relieved you guys or vice-versa. I was lucky enough to Tiger Cruise with him on their way home NOV/DEC 2017.
Love these videos and the choreography involved by all to make it happen.
Best live action channel for any DOD service. What cranks me off to know end…. Moron Navy City trying (and making massive headway) to dump the Growler. With no effective replacement whatsoever. Lucky if they get assigned to reserves. This decision IMO is criminal.
I never get enough of watching you at work. Love every second. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers!
How's EMALS compared to a steam shot - or have you had the pleasure yet? CV-New made me wonder a bit - lot of new contraptions in one big new bag.
Have yet to try the new hotness.
Great video, thanks. It seems to me they are a lot slower to launch than when I flew off the boat at Yankee station.
Keep in mind, the ship has four catapults and is usually launching off most of them concurrently. It’s not just one jet in one cat. Fly Navy!
thanks for the nice video 👌🤗
Somehow launching my Mavic Air 2s seems less dramatic...
-Posting for a friend
Interesting that you don't take hold of the stick until after the aircraft is clear of the deck.
Like me coming off the transbrake button the first time I ever went sub-10 in my Dad's '67 Camaro drag car.
Got kicked off the track for
Thanks for sharing! Could watch this for hours.
Mr. PAIL, you've got to do the talk overs more.... I know, you have and this is earlier but anyway, more...

Dream job right there!
Respect from the 173rd FW.
Sierra Hotel !!!
Wish the Coral Seas (CV-43) deck was that big.
Dou You hav CD player in dis pleyn? Onli mjusik miss and is perfect job
That's way too cool!!!
The interesting thing all those people on the deck aren’t use standing there they have a job to do
See any.....UAP's up there?
Every move you make on the flight deck is like a trucker with a wide load and surrounded by pedestrians.....thank you for protecting NATO nations
Except these truckers are always under the positive control of an aircraft director.
Way to go 👍
Nice!!! It almost sounds like an amusement park ride. How tall you gotta be to ride that?
Many amusement park rides feature the same EMALS catapult technology used aboard USS Gerald Ford.
Wow impressive
Awesome Vids. Can you salute the camera next time!!
I do. You guys usually miss it. It’s with my right hand, just before I launch.
At 1:40, is that trim you're working on the stick with your right thumb, or...? I assume that setting proper trim before the shot is a checklist item.
Exactly, we set the trim after the wings are folded.
@@GrowlerJams Thanks!
Does a fighter pilot still need to obtain a FAA license once he or she is out of the military and want to fly privately?
Yes.
@@GrowlerJams Somehow I can't imagine you in the cockpit of a Cessna 150 getting your PPL. It kind of suck that all your flight hours doesn't carry over.
What's the reason of that quick and full range stick movement just before shot off??
That‘s what I‘d like to know, too.
It's just a final check to see if everything is okay with the most critical part of flying, the control surfaces.
A lot of flight deck crew everywhere. Lots of training to avoid accidents . So many crew before you launch. Do you practice on land with deck crew or straight on board the ship?
I wonder how many g you take from the catapult?
3-4.
Love it when you are doing the stick. 😂
Bè mặt : 30...40 km/h
Flight higher
Why the need to cut the video a second after he cleared the deck ???
At least 100 km/ h
Hi!!! ....Wow. Dat sweet ah rass!
Wow, very interesting video!!
A10’s on the flight line
Pail, How is the light pattern on the Grizzly different from the Rhino at night? What is your typical state at the ball call?
Hi Michael. The Grizzly standard light pattern is 2 flashes, followed by a 1.92 second pause, followed by two flashes ands on. For the Rhino, the standard light pattern is three flashes, flowed by a 2.44 second pause, followed by three flashes and so on. At night, Grizzly pilots want to be 48K on the ball call.
I'm surprised when taking off with the catapult that you don't have a version of the HANS device that drivers uses in race cars. It must be hard on the neck with the weight of your head plus the helmet. And when you say " I never thought this channel would take off so quickly" was that pun meant?....
CAT shots aren’t hard I your neck if your head is against the seat headrest. Lateral acceleration. No big deal.
As far as the pun…yeah it was intentional…obviously!
A HANS device probably wouldn't make sense in a fighter jet, where the required range of motion (to look around) would render it ineffective anyway.
@@ArKritz84 Growler explain why the HANS device isn't required.
@@jerrycann6374 well yes, for the launch specifically. It's not needed for the "launch" of a race car either.
@@ArKritz84 I helped build and crewed on Pro Late Model asphalt circle track cars for years. I know what the forces are for a driver in a Pro Late Model, I wasn't aware what a pilot goes through taking off from a carrier. Growler explained it to me and that satisfied my curiosity. No need to discuss it any further.
Hell yeah man get some!
If the parking break is on then why dies it not fight the catapult
Because in means disengaged.
I can think of no flattering way to earn the callsign "Pail"...
That may be the point of callsigns. I'm sure it doesn't necessarily have to make sense (if indeed it ever does), except that being unflattering is a point in and of itself.
Is the dashboard covered with dust, who's job is it to detail the interior?
Possibly, but more likely it's a coating to prevent glare.
Do you think I could fly my little Pitts off your deck? (Without the catapult of course) Ha!
You could probably take off and land it without leaving the carrier. (:-)))
Microsoft Flight Sim. YT have all kinds of videos of aircrafts taking off or landing on the aircraft carrier.
Well we’re about 16’ wide x 17’ long with 180 hp and weigh 700 lbs + or- Picture the early WWII biplane Like the Curtis Hawk We are like that Every landing And take off is quite thrilling…that is understated.
Question: what looks like the "trim hat" on the stick, are you using that to set the trim or to navigate through the MFD? Great vid, keep'em coming!
The one on the right is for trim, I think the one in the middle selects the MFDs
He didn’t salute 🫡 anyone else notice that?
I did salute at time 3:44. It's quick. Not like in the movies.
