Let's go to Dakar for the Métiers d'Art 2022/2023 Chanel fashion show by Virginie Viard. Backstage, Naomi Campbell fluctuates between tears and trance. The temporary exhibition at La Galerie du 19M Dakar links the traditional skills of Dakar with those of the 19M Parisian fashion houses. Artists and craftspeople explain the importance of the exchange of a brand like Chanel between Senegal and Paris, and highlight the excellence of handmade products. On the day of the show, the guests discovered the setting: Dakar's Law Courts. Musician Nile Rodgers called himself the happiest man in the world. Pharrell Williams paid tribute to the host city, before his nomination for the men's collections at Louis Vuitton. Designer Sarah Diouf, head of the Tongoro brand, was very proud to welcome Chanel to her city. The show opened with actress Mama Sané. All the meticulous details of the outfits are explained by the craftsmen from the various Chanel art houses: Lesage! Maison Michel! Atelier Montex! Atelier Goossens! Desrues! Paloma! Fashionart! Lemarié! Virginie Viard gets the best out of 19M.

Love everything about the show,very impressive,beautiful. My only negative was why the models had only basic braids , why couldn't they wear their braids in a more sophisticated braided hair style. Was Chanel worried the hairstyle would compete with the clothes? We all know a woman feels at their best when the hairstyle goes with the clothing, we want the whole package

I love everything about this! I wish every fashion show would illustrate how labor-intensive it is to create each piece. I bet their sales would increase and those on the TOP TIER would be looked at as the wearers of fine ART and not just rich. That would definitely put them in a very respectable and exclusive club.
Also thank you for saying the model’s names and interviewing them. They genuinely seem happy and not drugged, scared and unhappy. Oh, and that dark skin adds another depth that has always been missing! Stunning!

très belle initiative ce défilé Chanel Métiers d'Art au Sénégal, un pays si riche par sa culture, la beauté de son peuple, ses artisans et artistes. Dommage, que ça ne suive pas du côté des droits des LGBT dans le pays, mais je suppose que tout reste à faire et sera fait un jour, patience les mentalités prennent du temps à faire changer ..... en attendant, bienvenue en France les ami(e)s !

Heureusement que Loïc est là pour rappeler - et il est le seul - qu'à l'origine de cette collection, il y a un savoir-faire français. Si on a des vestes tailleurs qui rendent hommage à la tradition vestimentaire sénégalaise, c'est parce que le système français permet à de jeunes gens de se former à moindre coût, et de transformer un passe-temps en une vocation rentable. Alors, certes vive le Sénégal, mais également vive la France !

L'inspiration africaine est assez minimale dans cette collection je trouve. Le défilé a beau avoir lieu en Afrique, rien n'a été produit là-bas donc juste un énième coup de comm'.
