Hi Richie, enjoyed this video. Totally agree with you about getting out of the motorbike hire business. Thought it was a bit strange opening it in the first place. My wife had a business in Phuket but lost all her stock with the Tsunami in 2004. She had a friend who also had a motor bike hire and lost so many bikes to fraud and theft.Motorbike hire is so far away from your core business. A little bit of advice if I can mate. (I,m also from the UK) -It looks to me that you are expanding at a very rapid rate. Just be careful mate. Remember in business turnover is vanity, Profit is sanity, but cash flow is reality. I,ve seen businesses expand at a very rapid rate. Their overheads, like staff, rents and utilities are growing exponentially. Usually what happens is the successful business i.e. Maybelle's coffee garden is subsidizing the new start-up. You take your eye off the ball and start concentrating on your new start-up. Then something happens at Maybelle's, ( accident, fire, drunken fight, etc), or the restaurant gets too successful which attracts unwanted attention. ( My wife had endless problems with the corrupt cops there), and both businesses go under. One other comment from my young brother who was a trained chef. ( He had a pub/coffee bar/ restaurant in Romford Essex. He said catering for breakfasts, lunches, burgers, etc is 1 thing. But getting into the full-on restaurant with professional kitchens, Chefs, sous chefs, etc, etc. is a totally different ball game that pushes your costs through the ceiling. My advice mate if its worth anything is to keep it small and manageable. Maybe the barbeque night will work. Why not have a BBQ night every night. But good luck. And I will be following you and hoping it all works out for you. BTW you know Thais only eat once a day. They start at 8 in the morning and finish at 8 in the night. Cheers.

Keep it simple on the BBQ, make your own burger patties, grind a couple of different steak cuts to your own signature recipe (look online for the best cuts to combine) and make your own signature dirty burgers. Make your own thick cheese fondue to ladle on top. One mature blue cheese one is good too. Soon restaurants will be buying your burger patties and your'll have burger franchises all over the world. I know potatoes are not that hard to get in Thailand, but if you have the facility to cook a batch of jacket potatoes to go with the meats and salad, that would be awesome. Could be a good addition to your menu anyway, lots of people love a jacket potato with various fillings.

This video has touched me somewhat. Like you Ritchie when I was young I wanted to do Art at university but I was swerved off that plan by my parents as they didn't see a future in it and I went down the Engineering and architecture route like yourself. Working from home and stressful projects have only made me think more about another life. I've frequently visited Phuket since 2016 and I'd love to get out the UK and live a more laid back life. Never try....you'll never know. Hopefully I'll be able to.get out soon and say hello and see Maybelles million dollar smile. Keep it real 🙏

I would love advice on the hire of a motorbike / scooter for the 4 weeks we are there (I have bike license). Will drop by on your BBQ night to help support you but only if you have a can of beetroot handy to add to the burger (We're a strange lot from Australia having beetroot on a burger, but it ain't a burger without it lol).

Apart from getting washed its the first towel that i pick up..reminds me of super phuket. Ritchie your right about doing too much.. it over takes your life. Have to say life is busyer then its ever been. You will never get your time back... BBQ. Rack of Ribs always a winner. Wagoo beef id say too high end of a cut of beef to bbq. Great message towards the end. You described my life exactly. School, University, job that makes me miserable, feeling trapped and depressed. Especially with all this isolation Covid crap. Gotta have some money saved to move over there and finding some solid source of online income is a challenge.
Keep going R&M. I love your expansion plans, but the economy and tourism is still in a terrible state. Perhaps concentrste on building the brand and learning during these times in order to be ready when it all opens up again. Love the BBQ idea but hopefully it is charcoal and not gas. Far tastier.

You are both very good at what you do in the hospitality industry so.. why not expand that what you enjoy & what is clearly working for you both! Who would of thought it Rich when we were working in TMU in the Truck shop & Grids at London Underground in Acton Bollo Lane where the future would go with you! I would dearly love to of come over to Phuket as i had a great time there many years ago in 1986 with a mate when we did Bangkok, Phuket & Koh Samui! Sadly that will not be the case though as my other half can't fly as she had DVT (deep vein thrombosis) & has been advised not to fly... Maybe you could make your second venue in the UK! Only joking! Plus jens took me to barbecue restaurant in nathon I think it was amazingly cheap for Phuket standard meney Thai people a fuew ferlang families the sea food was really good it was 300 baht as much as you could eat including soft drinks and dessert it was run by people no what they are doing I’my opinion when I come back to Phuket I would make it my regular eating establishment

Hi Richie And Maybelle, Listening to you talk and your reasons for stoping the bike biz this maybe a good time, over the next couple of weeks for both of you to revisit what your dream life is, you know, your goals. Time thinking about how much is enough? When do we stop striving for more, getting caught up in bigger is better. Not that these things are bad, but if they don't align with your goals then they need to be discarded. Have you both written any? For example: if your goals were to have a business that gave you money to have more free time together, to travel, explore new places to eat, be your own boss then have you reached that now, are you getting close to that or are you starting to move away from your dream life, you know, your goals. Back to basics, keeping it simple, having fun and sharing love with your wife and revisit your joint goals. Don't be turned off by the word "goals" If you think goals are simply what your dream life is and if you can both state your dream life, you goals in a sentence or two max, it makes it easier to make decisions for example, if we go in this direction, if we do this or that, are we moving closure to our goals or further away. If your goals are to not work for anyone else, to have a business that we can work 80 hrs a week in then you go for that. But of you goal is to have a business that feed us, gives us time to seek out new places to eat, free time, then you go for that - set some one two line goals ie dream lifestyle and you pit anything you want to do against those two line goals to see if they fit in with your vision. I need to do the same. Good goal writing.

Hi Ritchie and Maybelle, I'm finally on my way from Oz. I've lived a long time in Rawai and can't wait to get back. I loved your schpiel towards the end, very well articulated and true. I've tried to live my whole life that way and at 63 I have no regrets.Traveled and lived all around the world without being wealthy, just making it happen. It's all possible. I'll be staying around the bend from you when I arrive beg' March so you'll be my first stop. I reckon a notice board set up somewhere in the garden would be very handy. As you said it's a meeting place and a white board would be great for ~ selling & buying~ arranging meet ups ~ bike trips ~ advertising upcoming events ~ bbq's and general information etc.They do attract interest. Richie ... PRO TIP - when you are forced to hang your hammock close at both ends simply lie down in the hammock head to toe in the sideways fashion that way you don't have to smell your own a$$🤔😁. This video has touched me somewhat. Like you Ritchie when I was young I wanted to do Art at university but I was swerved off that plan by my parents as they didn't see a future in it and I went down the Engineering and architecture route like yourself. Working from home and stressful projects have only made me think more about another life. I've frequently visited Phuket since 2016 and I'd love to get out the UK and live a more laid back life. Never try....you'll never know. Hopefully I'll be able to.get out soon and say hello and see Maybelles million dollar smile. Keep it real 🙏

Great vlog guys. Loved the resort you stayed at. Never saw Maybelle take one sip of the champers/wine through the whole thing. She got out of that well. Non drinker eh. I reckon in the 38 minutes most of it evaporated in the Thai heat :. Really hope you and Maybelle do well in business and have a great life together. Hi Richie... we're booked to come to Phuket for a month in early April and will definitely drop by to say hello!! Your videos have been a great help in preparing for our trip so thanks to you and Maybelle. I would love advice on the hire of a motorbike / scooter for the 4 weeks we are there (I have bike license). Will drop by on your BBQ night to help support you but only if you have a can of beetroot handy to add to the burger (We're a strange lot from Australia having beetroot on a burger, but it ain't a burger without it lol).
Maybelle should have a lot more time in front of camera. rich, I presume you want more subs.

Apart from getting washed its the first towel that i pick up..reminds me of super phuket. Ritchie your right about doing too much.. it over takes your life. Have to say life is busyer then its ever been. You will never get your time back... BBQ. Rack of Ribs always a winner. Wagoo beef id say too high end of a cut of beef to bbq. Mind every one will enjoy. That sunday roast in your first part of the video looked amazballs.i thought the 2 chefs down the rd done a great roast but that look so nice.
We normaly holiday on our birthdays . Anniversary in phuket as 5 years ago had our wedding at the katathani . But we will be home hear in Guernsey. This time Next year we will be there in phuket..

Keep going R&M. I love your expansion plans, but the economy and tourism is still in a terrible state. Perhaps concentrste on building the brand and learning during these times in order to be ready when it all opens up again. Love the BBQ idea but hopefully it is charcoal and not gas. Far tastier.

I would dearly love to of come over to Phuket as i had a great time there many years ago in 1986 with a mate when we did Bangkok, Phuket & Koh Samui! Sadly that will not be the case though as my other half can't fly as she had DVT (deep vein thrombosis) & has been advised not to fly... Maybe you could make your second venue in the UK! Only joking! Plus jens took me to barbecue restaurant in nathon I think it was amazingly cheap for Phuket standard meney Thai people a fuew ferlang families the sea food was really good it was 300 baht as much as you could eat including soft drinks and dessert it was run by people no what they are doing I’my opinion when I come back to Phuket I would make it my regular eating establishment

Listening to you talk and your reasons for stoping the bike biz this maybe a good time, over the next couple of weeks for both of you to revisit what your dream life is, you know, your goals.
Time thinking about how much is enough? When do we stop striving for more, getting caught up in bigger is better. Not that these things are bad, but if they don't align with your goals then they need to be discarded.
Have you both written any? For example: if your goals were to have a business that gave you money to have more free time together, to travel, explore new places to eat, be your own boss then have you reached that now, are you getting close to that or are you starting to move away from your dream life, you know, your goals.
Back to basics, keeping it simple, having fun and sharing love with your wife and revisit your joint goals. Don't be turned off by the word "goals" If you think goals are simply what your dream life is and if you can both state your dream life, you goals in a sentence or two max, it makes it easier to make decisions for example, if we go in this direction, if we do this or that, are we moving closure to our goals or further away.
If your goals are to not work for anyone else, to have a business that we can work 80 hrs a week in then you go for that. But of you goal is to have a business that feed us, gives us time to seek out new places to eat, free time, then you go for that - set some one two line goals ie dream lifestyle and you pit anything you want to do against those two line goals to see if they fit in with your vision.
I need to do the same. Good goal writing.

Hi Ritchie and Maybelle, I'm finally on my way from Oz. I've lived a long time in Rawai and can't wait to get back. I loved your schpiel towards the end, very well articulated and true. I've tried to live my whole life that way and at 63 I have no regrets.Traveled and lived all around the world without being wealthy, just making it happen. It's all possible. I'll be staying around the bend from you when I arrive beg' March so you'll be my first stop. I reckon a notice board set up somewhere in the garden would be very handy. As you said it's a meeting place and a white board would be great for ~ selling & buying~ arranging meet ups ~ bike trips ~ advertising upcoming events ~ bbq's and general information etc.They do attract interest. Just a thought, See you in March guys. Ps, have fun with Mr Egg.

PRO TIP - when you are forced to hang your hammock close at both ends simply lie down in the hammock head to toe in the sideways fashion that way you don't have to smell your own
