So far on my journey I have done: Moat Carp 0-11 Fishing w/ Bamboo Rod and Little Worms Quus 11-19 Fishing w/ Bamboo Rod and Sabiki Rig Pipira 19-29 Fishing w/ Bamboo Rod and Minnow Lure You don't need any fishing gear with this route. Post your favorite fishing spots below! And let me know if you have any questions. I'd be happy to answer them in the comments, or LIVE on my twitch channel @ twitch.tv/fahros
Some odd 20 years ago I had a 75 PLD Tarutaru on Shiva server, maxed fishing and cooking with my Lu'Shang rod. Found HorizonXI recently and love they are keeping the '75 Era,' I also played 14 which basically holds your hand the whole game, but I loved the exploration part of 11. I did beat 14 back when no expansions, but I would have liked it as a single player. Trying to remember all this and starting with basically 50 gil to my name is interesting, thanks for the guide for HorizonXI.
Way back in the day, I remember getting asked how I could possibly have afforded a lot of the gear I had. And I just said cooking. Specifically, cooking, fishing, and alchemy as a combination. And I wasn't even nearly maxed out. Making food made money. Fishing made money. Making bait for fishing made money. Fishing with the bait I made made money. And if you just kept at it day after day you really started to stockpile a huge amount of money. Might not have been the fastest Money Maker ever, but it was steady and easy and got me everything I really wanted. And when I went out to party, I saved so much money because I could just craft my own food whenever I wanted. Just started out on this server and that's pretty much my plan all over again.
As a new FFXI player, the one thing I don't understand is how to make "Crazy money" off fishing, after moat carp. Do you just vendor things? Auction House? I noticed there are some fish that don't really move much. I go out to get skillups, but always end back up getting carps...
Hey there, so how you'll make money with fishing will depend on the level and the fish. Yes, sometimes you just sell the fish to the NPC. Right now I'm fishing up Black Eels which are around 2.35k to the NPC, and around 2.7k on the AH. When I'm a little bit higher fishing, I'll be able to fish up Bluetails which are 3.6k a stack to the NPC! Wild, right? Other fish you'll sell to the AH and cooks will buy them because they can actually make money by buying yours and crafting them and reselling them. I know it's tempting to just stay on moat carps because you're familiar with them and because they make decent cash. That's what I did when I first started playing the game haha but it will definitely pay off if you choose to actually level fishing and do higher level fishing. But hell, you can make all the money you need off moat carps too. It'll just take longer. I say do whatever makes you happy, even if that means staying on moat carps longer than other people.
@@FahrosXIV I'm still thinking moat is better road to make "ok money" from fishing. With a Hyocon/insect ball; You can make ~16-20k/hours with inventory of 30. If you aso grab those rusty sub/legging to AH and Trade-bucket(300gil). I still didnt find a fish yet that would provide this output yet.. Beside Gold Moat. It feel like 10 to 60 all fish npc or ah is bad compare to Moat. Recently, I converted to mining. Mining provide me so far on avg 60-80k/hours (Zeruh mine) smithing to ore to ingot sell for 33k a stack.
It's hit or miss as you level which fish will start making you some real Gil. Moat Carp are stupid high price for that level since you need 10k of them for the buy able Legendary Lu Shangs later so people would rather buy them then fish. Most fish I suggest doing yourself a favor and just vendor cause most will NOT sell on the AH and you will just waste time and inventory. My suggestion is to help tell people to level til within range of Black Sole cause that's where the money basically is. To skill quickly you want to get the gear and a Halcyon rod and stay 14 levels from the next fish as long as possible which I mean move to the next fish when you can be around 14 levels away or 16 levels with advance synth which is cheap in Port Windurst and last 3 hours. Then try and move to the next around 8-10 levels on your current fish cause by that point the skill ups drastically slow down more and more as you get skill ups to cap. I've helped point a lot of people in the fast track direction to the point of which fish you wanna try and do next so you or anyone can hit me up on Discord searching char name in the Horizon Discord or in game - Redbaeren (lvl 131 Fishing w/Ebisu Fishing Rod)
Think I'm missing something with fishing. Even by an empty pool with a bamboo rod and worms It takes hours to get even a single stack or maybe 2 if I'm really lucky of moat carp. The rest of the stuff you fish up is junk. It's like 1k an hour at best. edit, insect balls made all the difference, little worms are useless and fish up too much crayfish worth nothing
Yeah I had a gut feeling about doing the paste over the worms myself, I've never tried worms. In most cases early on, I believe focusing on only reeling in fish is your best value. Can always buy enough worms just to sell a stack or two of carps, then use that to afford a stack of insect paste and go from there. You may know that by this point, but maybe it'll be insightful to someone. :)
I never got into fishing 🎣 I did goldsmith and smithing on retail but never got too far. The only way I made currency was killing the avatars every day. 75k a day.
The devs raised the level cap to fish and reduced the money you get for selling fish. Really pissed me off. I can't make it to level 15 without gear and I can't afford any gear because I have no way to make money now......
Literally walk outside and kill whatever is around. Sell for money. Repeat. I just reached level 16 and have only been playing a couple of days. You can sell anything.
@@Wool94 I stopped playing months ago. I just don't have the time for this game. I wish I did but I'm lucky to even get 2-3 hours per week to play games.
@@kenshinhimura9387 I feel you on this, it can be ruff to experience the old days on there depending on Life cause we're all adults now with families and what not depending. I've played on all the servers except Eden and I suggest you check out Catseye cause their main ACE account you can do whatever and have trusts and they've added a lot of custom content. I play it on the side with a friend cause its more his speed also for just jump on and knock anything out faster solo even.
4k people at one time. Throughout a day that’s a lot more individual IPs. Not everyone plays everyday so those 3-4k people are a revolving set of people with idk 10-50% everyday players. So yeah, views are fine.
It's VERY realistic. I did it three times just trying to get Clipeus lol. Did like 4k exp/hour 10-15 fighting beetles, orcs, goblins, & sheep around the fungus beetle spawn. I did upgrade my weapon and some CP gear but that's cheap to free.
i just did this on horizon as a blm lol i did manage to sell crystals and some items to npcs so i had water aero and fire but no gear or weapons apart from the lvl1 set. managed to farm like 30 silk to buy a rod and sdome bait and now i gotta fish for a few days xD
@@Dr_Strangelove34 lol your comment is ignorant. Level efficiently and intelligently would mean joining a party at level 12 and gaining xp way faster than you ever could solo.
@kenshinhimura9387 wrong? first time playing? with the state of the population its FAR more efficient to grind out with band on as a solo til starter-zone EPs are zero exp. tell me you don't know how to level without telling me.

This was so comprehensive and easy to follow. Thanks so much!!
In bastok mines , when you go inside the actual mine there’s a fishing area inside the mine at the very beginning of the tunnel
Good stuff Fahros. I'll definitely make use of this when I start fishing
Thank you so much for this video, you rock!
This is perfect timing. Just got to 11 while fishing to sell moat carp but they stopped selling instantly, so I guess its time to upgrade!

Great vid man. Thanks for the info.
Mad about all the moat carps I've sold to npc merchants
The fish database seems to be shut down forever since few weeks ago, maybe you can link the website archive one
Best example pictures I have ever seen. 😆
I love your drawing lol
good video , will try fishing soon .

I like that it has pools like real life but it also makes it like real life where I'm not giving away my good fishing spots 😂

Yes
I like to fish on top of others.
