Ginbey is one of the quickest players in the list! but has a turning circle of a tractor. Works better in straight lines. Also only kicks with left so can get trapped. But only in his second year. Compare with Fyfe and Cripps in their second seasons. Too much is expected. I'd give him a rest as season progresses down back as he'd be sore. I'd consider giving Hough a run through the middle as he's had a tough year in defence and could benefit from midfild experience too.

Wakefiled and Thoulstrup look like good finds for the Dee's. Plus Melbourne have a good draft hand. Its pretty good for a team that has lost players like Hibbard, Jackson, Grundy, Brayshaw, and Harmes.
Go get some rest mate. Agree with pretty much all your points made here. I remain unsure about the coaching issue, I do believe that no coach arguably survives this, but I am completely at a loss as to who we pursue to replace him, and who is even gettable at this stage. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on potential future options for head coach in the future.
Realistically we only won the hit outs and to a certain extent the clearances because Gawn got subbed out at the start of last quarter otherwise we would have at least lost hit outs and potentially got smashed by more
We actually have some really good foundational players to build a potential premiership in, Mcgovern, Barrass, Reid, Yeo, Hough, Cole, Kelly, Waterman, Cripps and Allen. We have some players who are outrageously overrated by our selection comittee, Ginbey(by far the most overrated and worst peformer, needs to be back flank), Chesser, Witherden, Rotham, Ryan, Flynn and Darling. We also have players who aren't getting given a fair crack even though we need to develop kids, Maric, Hall (not ready but has immense potential to be developed), Trew (same as Hall but may as well play given our season trajectory), Williams instead of darling/Harley Sparks has been doing well in the WAFL, Culley, Dewar. I think we actually dooming ourselves every week at selection for failure and /lack of improvement/lack of progression/lack of rebuild by not playing Trew, Culley, Dewar, Maric. I think I speak for all supporters when I say I'm happy to get beaten by a simply better team all the while we are improving and developing our young players and actually having our players play hard and be competitive. What we have right now is an inbetween trying to play old players and doing a rebuild and its unbelievably frustrating.
I'd say the opposite. They were going really hard and giving their all for the club. themselves and their coach. You can't doubt their efforts. Certainly mistakes were made under pressure. But we were throwing our bodies in too. Side is out of balance a bit with the extra talls, but this is a club driven approach that Simmo has to fall in line with. Its about long term development not just winning. Simmo has to play along too. Hutchy shouldn't have played but with his high fitness levels it was heartening he came into the game. But he still fumbles it and needs a full preseason.
Pretty spot on. The only point I might disagree with you on is Ryan going to defence, I know they trialled it in the wafl and I think they gave it a go in a game briefly and he just looked lost.
@@BDub2024 I think he’s done well rotating through the midfield and he’s an all Australian forward pocket. I’d rather have him down there than another tall
For sub, get a midfielder who has the potential to inject something, so I think Culley matches that, and of course a debut for Clay Hall would be good as well. Agree with you on Campbell Chesser, he had a shot today for goal which was similar to one he has last, would have nice if he got this one, but WAFL time seems fair. I'd keep Witherden over Rotham personally. I think Witherden has had some pretty good games, but today probably wasn't one of them. Actually I think our backline today wasn't as good as last week. Forward line fired a lot better this week for the most part, bother Waterman and Allen looked good. Darling looked good late in the game.
Rotham playing ability is bad. I've never thought he plays for the team, his blue and gold jumper let alone the coach. Get rid of him. Witherden and brockman look like wrong decissions. Brockman reminds me of a headless chicken just runs around and does nothing. There is no special formula to get this team playing with heart again. Change the coach who doesn't want to be their mate. This same list would be on 6-8 wins now if we had a personality like the scott Brothers. However we have alot of free loaders like sheed, rotham, witherden, gaff, brockman, darling etc. I think cole and kelly looks avg on most days and seem kinda 'over it'. Again get them out and trade them.
I thought the skill level was poor at times for Eagles which led to turnovers and goals. Small forwards needed to apply more pressure in our forward line. I thought the boys really tried hard and committed their bodies.
If Eagles form improves then Simmo is more likely to survive. But based on our last season (and our very young and very old demographic that struggle as year progresses) then we're more likely to drop away. Club will consider Simmo situation for 2026 and beyond as key part of criteria. Next year all they will get is speculation about Simmo. Its highly likely that club will struggle again and in round 17 he will have a farewell game and that's it. Then Knights/Schofield as relief coach. Knowing that, it will be easier to see if anyone better is suitable at season end. Any new coach will need to be a strong character as its likely we will have a few more wooden spoons and we don't want a coaching carousel with another and another new coach. That's the advantage of keeping Simmo and using his experience and skills to bring on the youngsters for the time being. Either way, a new coach will have his hands tied because of the lack of skills in the squad will make it difficult to dump kids. He will need to show faith in the kids still for at least another year or two. But I think they both may separate if someone good is on offer. But I don't put Cox in that category. It will need to be someone with the name and toughness to weather the storm. Its a pity Chris Scott isn't available.
Could not agree more with Rotham & Witherden. They are just not adding anything to the team. Jones and Darling need to be put on notice, as does Brockman, he just has not done enough to secure a place in the team. Chesser & Cole haven't been giving much value to the side, but we are lacking depth in the WAFL and will probably need to persist with them, at least for now.
I think chesser getting dropped for a few weeks would do him good in the long term. His defensive running today, particularly in the first 1/4 when he was fresh was terrible.
Brockman disappointing as we desperately need pressure forward. I thought Darling was really creating defensive pressure and setting example. But is he good enough? Chesser needs time down back and up forward as pressure forward. Cole is good and could also play in a defensive mid / forward role very effectively. Witherden only looks good when he has space and he didn't today.
We all know they will be bottom 3 for the next two to three years. That's why you have to be cautious about when you replace the coach. The next coach may only last 2 years... as things could get worse with 11 guys likely to be gone in 2-3 years. And they're most of our better players.
I was at the game today and it was an eye opener just how lazy these blokes are. When it’s the first quarter, fitness is no excuses. Players happy to let their man run off into space when the opposition has the ball and not follow them. When we are outnumbered in defence, blokes just jogging back rather than sprinting to even up the contest. When we have the ball in defence looking to clear, players just standing still rather than providing leads. And the worst part, most of the guys doing no defensive running also don’t contribute with ball in hand. Chesser Withereden Brockman Cole Rotham All doing bugger all. I had been calling for more of the old blokes to be moved on and I still think that needs to happen but watching the game, you can see why the likes of darling keep getting a game. He is actually trying when most of his teammates aren’t.
I thought the boys tried hard. Melb were good though. They were trying a physical game but fumbling too much. We would benefit from more defensive mids and forwards. I'd move Cole Duggan up the ground so they'd give you the commitment. Chesser not a wingman but inside mid. Brockman another recruit as small forward that is proving a poor investment. Col is good. Rotham a battler. Most of the guys you're mentioning are young. Our older guys are largely our best players. In 2-3 years eleven will be gone. Then see what happens. Darling I thought was really tackling hard and being aggressive.
All the talk is always made up, trust me. The club will make a sensible decision at the time. They have a side that will be bottom 3 for the next 2-3 years. They need to consider the timing of a new coach and who is available. If Simmo goes into 2025 then there will be constant speculation and towards the end of the year when they don't extend then he may have a farewell game and go. Then Schofield/Knights takes over. So club just has to work out what works best. This was a hard fought effort from the boys but just not good enough.
@@TrevorPhilipsBro You don't know unless you're there at the club and see what they do. The coaches just need to be development coaches, that's the key. Developing players is more important than strategists.
@@TrevorPhilipsBro Mr Negative. I thought they tried hard, but not good enough. They need to apply more pressure. I would consider moving Cole to forward line to show defevensive press and possibly Rawinson or Dewar.
You’ve been very forgiving of the team in the past and this is the first time I’ve actually seen you pissed off and just over it which just shows how poor our performances have been.
Edwards for Rotham is a terrible call I'm going to be honest. Rotham on a medium size player can offer something where as Harry is far too slow for AFL excellent Wafl player as an intercept marker but AFL he ain't that. If we see him as a long term prospect he needs to go down the schoey path and become a pure lock down defender.
Hedwards needs experience as he will be our replacement for Barrass and McGovern in two year. Fact. It will be Bazzo and Hedwards as replacements. Both will be gone in 3 years.
@@peterjones3177 Hunt is good, but we like him on wing. Hough playing a more shut down role, but I'd like him up the ground to learn more offensive skills. Duggan runs and carries a bit. We just need to keep developing guys.
Being at the game today, the defensive running was appalling. And it really doesn’t help when one of the players very much guilty of it is a club captain. Time and time again players were willing to only jog while their opponent ran off them. And only picked up the pace once their opponent had the ball in hand. Too little too late to just make it look like they’re working hard.
Chesser has done nothing beside from a few runs And a couple of walk in goals Doesn’t do anything with the ball Doesn’t spread I think he needs to develop a year or two in the wafl
Let’s face it. We’r a shit team and we have no depth, nobody’s really killing it in the wafl except maybe Trew. There’s no point waisting draft picks on guys like baker he’ll be 30 by the time we’r pushing for finals. Keep going to the draft and building depth and pray we can get lucky on a few. It’s gonna be a long Rd I’m not sure if We’v totally bottomed out yet
Agreed. We are losing 11 guys in next 2-3 years and they are largely our best. We will bottom out this year and next probably. Remember last two years we played badly because of injuries mainly. 2024 to 2025 will be more bottoming out. Having the injuries exposed young guys and gave us early picks. So blessing in disguise.
Sheed needs to be at WAFL. An interrupted preseason and season again. Pointless picking him this year. Club will work out on Simmo. Fact is next year there will be speculation all year and they'll probably bid him farewell in round 17. So they will take that into account to get someone in. They will need to be tough as 3 more years of finishing last will be a tough start as coach.
Kelly disappointing with skills. Harley and Ginbey not bad. Hunt ok. Eagles are just experimenting with players and that's why they're playing around with JWilliams as a sub. Its not about this match but about the future. He got a game at the MCG and if a ruck fell over, then J Williams would have been a lead ruckman. Eagles are not trying to win at all costs but trialling different things as year progresss, as is his role as coach to coach for the future.
Have to laugh, can't cry. Fox Sports asked him about the 3 players text messages wanting him gone. His response, in a nutshell was about 10 players are getting moved on at the end of the year anyway. See there's more bubbling beneath the surface at the club. It happens alot. But there's still alot of issues after winning 3 games, looking back now we are again more so in contention for that spoon. Not saying well get it, but whose next year's Draft Pick's?
I thought Eagles were trying but not up to it. Unlikely to be 10 guys gone, but when you allow for squad members, rookies and academy players it all adds up. This year the club and Simmo have been picking teams and he's fallen into line with what the club wants to experiment with. All tall attack for instance. Games to Hutchy despite him not being ready. They reckon he has the tools so trying to give him experience, then a full preseason with skills they're hoping he will be a front liner.
You have too much faith in the list. They have a very poor list its just that Eagles fans aren't used to it. At any club unless you;re collingwood there will be 10 players or more wanting you gone. that's life in any workplace let along a competitive environment with big egos and guys getting paid different wages and guys getting cut. Not unusual at all.
Yeah but that's a better Draft pick finish 9th your outta contention and your looking at 9th pick. So that's not an issue if you aren't playing finals come Draft selection. Plus he'd have a heap of legal to adhere to, he just can't comment on. So it's a tough gig. Coaches and players get welcomed in the Club on the way in. But the door closes behind them on the way out all the same.
you have to read into what people say and why they say it. All clubs have players complaining. Club will have guys leading. I reckon 4 squad membrs, 2 rookies, 1 academy... so about 7 is more likely. Could be more. Remember North were offloading up to 14 guys a year for a few years in a row.
we only have 3 draft picks in the first four rounds this year. How are all these players going to appear in our team??? pointless dropping guys from squad if you can't bring replacements in. Maybe a free agent?
You know its inevitable simmo, witherden and jones are not the eagles future yet you never mention the need to drop simmo.. just witherden and jones. Why dont you ever say simmo needs to go?
Hutchinson currently lacks the ball skills, but club is determined to give him games. Then hoping a full preseason will stop him from fumbling so much. He is a fit guy clearly and came into his own as the game continued. I wonder whether they are experimenting with him as a defensive forward considering his mobility, and then hoping he snags some marks and goals
So we lost to the 12th placed side (going into the game) by 54 points in a “statement game”…and you think it’s not a disappointing loss? Have some standards, Jesse. Thankfully, the amount of people commenting that Simpson should keep his job is getting less and less. More people are waking up.
@@kingluis6360If that’s true, it’s still a bitterly disappointing loss. We should all be expecting so much more from this team and we need to stop making excuses for them. First it was COVID. Then it was injuries. Now it’s “the list isn’t good enough”. Our list still has some top quality players from the backline line right through to the forwards. It should be performing so much better than it is. Our expectations shouldn’t be so low as to say it’s not disappointing to play the way we did today.

Realistically we only won the hit outs and to a certain extent the clearances because Gawn got subbed out at the start of last quarter otherwise we would have at least lost hit outs and potentially got smashed by more
We actually have some really good foundational players to build a potential premiership in,
Mcgovern, Barrass, Reid, Yeo, Hough, Cole, Kelly, Waterman, Cripps and Allen.
We have some players who are outrageously overrated by our selection comittee,
Ginbey(by far the most overrated and worst peformer, needs to be back flank), Chesser, Witherden, Rotham, Ryan, Flynn and Darling.
We also have players who aren't getting given a fair crack even though we need to develop kids,
Maric, Hall (not ready but has immense potential to be developed), Trew (same as Hall but may as well play given our season trajectory), Williams instead of darling/Harley Sparks has been doing well in the WAFL, Culley, Dewar.
Was clear to me they’re certainly not playing for the coach.
@@BDub2024 hutchy laid ten tackles. We need that just now
Pretty spot on. The only point I might disagree with you on is Ryan going to defence, I know they trialled it in the wafl and I think they gave it a go in a game briefly and he just looked lost.
Ryan is a forward, but if he can't improve then he'll need to be dropped. If he can improve fitness then you're talking about other roles.
Hope Gov is ok after the hospital stay. Last update I saw says he is still there.
The goat
Ok ready for the kicker when you try to sub out orrjam and witherden.... who do you replace them with.
We have the depth of a kids pool.
Hope eagles get well soon. Just not before the freo game
Simmo has to be done.
Dont worry guys, we sent them to the 3rd QT goaless a few years back, let's just think about that instead.
Rip simmo :(
Some real concerns with the list.
Chesser
Withereden
Brockman
Cole
Rotham
All doing bugger all.
I have just heard from someone at the club the board members and more players are pushing for Simmo to be gone
Best news all day.
@@BDub2024knights and schofield need to go too. Both complete hacks.
Might as well try get 1st pick again
Yep
We need more run and carry from defence haven't had it since Jetta got the boot and delist all the blokes not even up to WAFL standard
Too little too late to just make it look like they’re working hard.
top heavy in attack and guys underdone like Oscar. Brockman disappointing. We need more defensive forwards with pace and tackling pressure.
Chesser has done nothing beside from a few runs
And a couple of walk in goals
Doesn’t do anything with the ball
Doesn’t spread
I think he needs to develop a year or two in the wafl
Let’s face it. We’r a shit team and we have no depth, nobody’s really killing it in the wafl except maybe Trew. There’s no point waisting draft picks on guys like baker he’ll be 30 by the time we’r pushing for finals. Keep going to the draft and building depth and pray we can get lucky on a few. It’s gonna be a long Rd I’m not sure if We’v totally bottomed out yet
Still years away from bottoming out lol
I think Simpson coaches to end of season.time to roll farewell games out sat last home game sheed darling gaff.
I think that everyone that was involved in the 2018 grand final should be moved on
except they're our best players. Watch out for the 20 goal losses for antoher 3 years.
Simmos HAS TO GO
Sod the bloody stats
Player’s are not clean with their hands
I think he meant it that way just because it was expected.
