    I know most people hate this storyline, but as the mother of teenaged boys, it's given me a lot of to think about. When you're drunk, it is hard to make good decisions about anything, which means even your ability to think through whether someone has consented - or is still consenting - is compromised. I'd advise my boys (or anyone, honestly) to treat sex like driving: If you're not sober enough to drive, you're not sober enough to consent or accept consent to sex.

      That's such great advice. Binge drinking destroy so many lives

    • @jenjones90
      @jenjones90 Год назад +4

      This is what I've been thinking since the start of the storyline. Amy and Summer etc have spoken as though Aaron is a dangerous predator. She and Aaron were both very very drunk and, he potentially misjudged the situation and made a mistake. Stuff like this happens a lot and young people need to learn from it.
      What I found a bit odd with how this was written was that the implication was that Aaron knew what he was doing cause he was not unconscious. However, when detailing Aaron taking her top off Amy was implying that even that wasn't consensual, despite the fact that she was not unconscious at that point and clearly appeared to be consenting.
      Based on this, I would honestly give the same advice to my teenage nieces. Don't have sex when you're drunk and give someone the opportunity to misjudge the situation.

    The amount of men in the comments who are saying this wasn't rape is fucking worrying. if you think having sex with someone who was passed out and unconscious is not rape, maybe you need to rethink. Even if he was drunk, she was unconscious and, therefore could not consent at that point. You do realise that if your having sex and half way through your partner says stop, if you don't, that's rape. Even if they consented at the beginning, if they change their mind and take away the consent half way through that's still rape if you carry on. Amy may have consented at the beginning when they kissed, (consented to kiss) but the moment she was unconscious she did not have the ability to consent anymore, and therefore it is rape.

      Specifically the people commenting and saying this wasn’t rape should look at the section of the rape crisis website about what is and isn’t consent. Any like-minded person would know that you don’t have the freedom to consent if you’re unconscious or drunk

    • @thomashughes4977

      I don't understand why there are comments saying that Aaron is such an innocent man, that Amy needs to stay quiet, or that Summer should butt out. If Amy and I got drunk to the point where she would pass out from drinking so much, I would lie her down either on the bed or on the couch, checked every few minutes if she was alright and still breathing, and called an ambulance if she wasn't.

    Great performance from Elle in all seriousness. I joke a lot but I do generally think Amy's story has been good. Disagree fine but I think it was a decent story. I don't really like issue-based stories from the last couple years. Her's though was good. I think it's because I watched Amy grow up and seen her evolve so I invested a lot in the charachter. Summer however did not need to be involved and it would have been more interesting have she not been so believing. So I do totally get the criticisms as well.

    Too often people, like Aaron, try to get away with crimes like these by focusing on stuff that doesn't matter (like flirting or kissing etc) but in this story line the victim also focused on shit that doesn't matter (the fact she fell over or didn't fully undress herself) and that is poor writing.
    The only points that genuinely matter are:
    1) When she stopped responding he should have checked on her
    2) When he saw she was out of it, he should have stopped and left
    Anything else is just fluff around the edges that is being used to justify bullshit.
    I should say that he is a brilliant actor btw, he's impressed throughout the storyline.

    • @jenjones90
      @jenjones90 Год назад +1

      She was trying to make out that none of it was consensual - emphasising that Aaron took her top off. Presumably that's why he was mentioning the details re them kissing. But yes the crucial part are the actions at the end of that scene.
      It is very badly written IMO as it makes r@pe victims look like entitled liars - she was constantly changing her story even in this scene. She was also being unreasonable by expecting everyone to believe her just cause she's the accuser and being disappointed that the police didn't cart Aaron off to prison purely based on her word. When cases like this are taken on the police make it very clear to alleged victims that they cannot charge let alone convict someone purely based on their testimony. The way Steve told her that the video footage of her taking out the bottles "changes everything" is also incredibly misleading to anyone going through something like this. All those bottles "proved" was that alcohol had been consumed in the flat. Whether the police would believe Aaron and Amy consumed it all depends on whether they believe the witnesses. Additonally, Aaron already said they were both drunk so it doesn't change anything let alone everything. If anything, it actually could be used against Amy - the defence could state that she wasn't traumatised as she was focused on cleaning up the flat.

Amy was actually treated very well by the police, I was called a liar in the outcome report for my case and a proper investigation wasn't completed as the word of the suspect was taken against mine purely based on my upbringing. I also had no family to support me like she did.

In a real wide situation (which the story line was proving) not court in the land would be able to convict, as both partys were intoxicated, so evidence would not reliable. the story line was proving the guilt that Aaron has and is feeling, not that Amy was not reacting to him, he admitted he took her underwear off, that in it self proves guilt, then carried on while Amy is still passed out, that is the act of rape right there, as not consent or reaction given. What ever way you look at it Aaron sexually assulted and raped Amy. For once a well written and acted story line by some brilliant young actors. They could do a female on male rape storyline, but it would probably take a long time to figure out how to cover it in the “right” way . When something is unprecedented in a soap, it’s more disturbing than something we‘be been taught to think of as more common.
      I think if this has been a false accusation storyline it would have done a lot. There is still time, I suppose.
