For anyone confused Burt may have mental health issues but he isn't totally stupid. He knows that if he gives away the 50 K then that might lead to more money in the future. He is credit maxed and had revenue streams from other places. So throwing 50K at his hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt isn't really going to do anything since that income is going to be reported on his taxes. Burt seems like the kind of guy to do weird math and realize that the possibility of goodwill might be worth more in the long run. Who knows? Some cypto millionaire might feel bad and decide to give him 50K in crypto (tax free) because he seems like such a hapless guy giving away his money. It's a gamble but why not make that gamble? It's honestly not a bad move at all. Any amount of money he can get off the table would be way more useful than 50K after taxes and auto debt deductions.
I have been humbled to see Burt post-tank. He had us all fooled exaggerating his personality like he did. I thought he was legit dangerous in the middle of things, but seeing him now I think he's an ok guy and a great actor.

Not sure for season 3, but at one point it was $500 a day
