Piotr Grudzinski's death is such a loss. He was a gifted guitarist and an integral part of the sound of Riverside. Rest in peace Piotr.

Glad you liked this. What I like about Riverside is that you can hear their influences ( and at 50, I hear them)but they have their own sound. They are also a melody/song first band which is nice for a Change up.
They do have heavier songs , and lighter songs, and a big catalogue. Anno Domini High Definition is their heaviest album, but all have metal elements ( including some harsh vocals, used sparingly for effect or as an exclamation point) and their newer stuff steers more towards modern prog rock.
"Volte Face " , "Driven to Destruction " "Dance With The Shadow "and "Egoist Hedonist", are heavier.....
Check out Lunatic Soul "Gutter", "Blood On the Tightrope", and "Summerland ".....Mariusz Duda is the singer/songwriter/bassist of Riverside, so you can hear a lighter side ( still has ambience and brooding)

Riverside is amazing! Is really sad that the guitarist (Piotr) died some years ago :(
Your videos are great! You should react to Nightmist by Pain Of Salvation (performed live, the dvd is called On The Two Deaths of Pain Of Salvation) you'll lost your head! Haha
Cheers from Chile, dude! Keep it going lmL

This track is simply the finest prog metal track of all time. In fact it's one of the best prog tracks of all time. And that performance is almost note perfect.
If you want to hear the heavier (but still melodic) version of Riverside, try Reality Dream 3 off the same album: ruclips.net/video/GRODqtETIno/видео.html

Riverside are amazing. If you want something heavier then highly recommend their Anno Domini High Definition album

Ultimate Trip is another astounding Riverside track, either studio or live. (I usually listen to the studio version.) Beyond the Eyelids is awesome as well.

Riverside is an amazing band. Maruiz (I hope I am spelling that right) Duda is a fantastic bass player and song writer. His solo project "Lunatic Soul" is a very experimental project that I find rather good.
You were expecting a little more "punch" in that song, if you want that, I suggest anything from "Amino Domini in High definition," I believe is the name of the record. It has a little more attitude. Second life... Is from a concept trilogy.
Riverside is a great group that not many folks here in the States know about. I am excited that you have done a reaction to them.

Its Mariusz and you pronounce it like "Mariush" :3 As a polish girl im really proud of them and like you said "Anno Domini High Definition" is surely more energetic!

I really dont know why, but this song reminds me to Pain of Salvation, if you havent heard them, it will be cool to see you reacting to them. Recommend "Flame to the Moth" live in Amsterdam.

Listen to Arena for some more great neo prog. I recommend starting with A Crack In The Ice.

    Hi Jim.
Why don't you return to Devin Townsend's music with "Man" or "Ocean Machines" ? Two wonderful demo songs by this canadian genius.
    You won't regret it...
    Bye

Way too underrated. Not the kinda band to give you wow factors in the first listen; you have to give it a bit more time before you can appreciate its power to pierce into your mind n soul (take this from a music enthusiast who listens to almost all kinda music). Love your channel, Jim, specially the type of music in here. Keep up the good work.

    Tool meets Pink Floyd

  • @fdsannie
    @fdsannie 6 лет назад +2

I agree about the Pink Floyd comparison. In my opinion the song was good, but I feel it was a little to long for a mellow song.

Way too long - outstayed it's welcome by about 4 or 5 minutes I'd say.
