Nice job. Very informative, this will help me tremendously with my new retro steering wheel. Appreciate your attention to detail and your narrative.

Awesome! Glad to hear and thanks for the comment letting me know.
OK. I just finished the power steering pump. Now I'm ready for the steering column on my 57 sedan delivery. Thanks to YOU. Where were all these videos when I was growing up? Oh that's right. We didn't even have the internet. 🤔
Thanks. I sure wish we had the internet back then. Lol
Thank you the pictures of the assembly helped alot
Jacki Posa Glad to hear the video helped.
Hello Russ. Good videos on the steering column. You make it look easy. Good work.
Thanks Darryl, I was dreading this part of the project but it wasn't too bad.
Thanks for posting this video. Im about to do the same thing to my '55. This helped a lot. Thanks again
Glad it helped, Thanks for watching
This will definitely help. Just took delivery of my ‘55 Nomad “project car”. The car was originally 3-speed/manual (which is long gone) and I’m going to put in a PowerGlide. I will have remove the original column, hunt down one for column shift/automatic and do the swap.
Glad to hear. Sounds like a great project!
thanks for the video. I'm going out to install my new 57 steering wheel now :)
Thanks for watching, I hope the install went smooth.

Lol, yea I spent a lot of time working on this car in my socks.
good job shes back together
Thanks Drew. Glad she is. lol
It's always the little springs that give the most trouble! LOL Looks great!
Oh yes, I had to put the horn button on a couple of times before it felt right. lol
Big help. I think I figured out my problem
Glad the video helped
Good idea on the flat rope!
Did you pull it down or pull it up when installing the rope? My 55 horn just decided to get set off when turning the wheel one day...Once I get the wheel off I hopefully will see a bare wire I can cover else I am looking at a new bearing too.
I really appreciate your time and excellent presentation and if I can get back here I will report on my situation--which should have been done a while ago but I cannot find the wheel puller so awaiting the UPS guy!!
I think I pulled it downward. Let me know how it goes
Great video sir! Could I ask a question? I’m trying to move my 1956 Chevy horn switch ( previous owner put a horn button on steering column) back to original. I’ve got the horn button rebuild kit, but cannot for the life of me find out where the wire connects to in the horn button. I cannot find this in the original shop manual and did not see where the wire connected in your video.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
The horn wire is the wire that is on the bearing that goes around the shaft. If I remember right my camera died during this part of the install. Great question.
@@DoubleRRestorations Thank you!
Git R Done!!
Nice work RR. Clean as a whistle. I need to rebuild the horn and signal switch in my 62 C10. Any advice? I have never had a steering wheel off.
Shouldn't be too bad. Have a steering wheel puller on hand before starting and take some pics or vids of the disassembly. It probably wont be much different than the 55.
Thanks Russ.
Right On Man" Steering Columns Can Be A Pain In The Rear End ^*^*^*>~>~>~>~^*^*^ Thanks For Sharing""" Good Job By The By!!
I was worried about it. I had a bad experience with the one for my Camaro.
Does the center red cap just pop off or is there a screw holding it on?
Its been awhile, but If I remember correctly it presses on.
I recently bought a 55 Chevy 210. I noticed that it was leaking something, checked the new CPP500 unit and the guy before me installed it, it was actually moving when I cut the wheel. Another friend told me it probably ruined the bearings in the new unit, the previous owner also cut the column down to 27" so I have no idea what I need to do to fix this. Please someone give me some advice on this, thanks.
+TheJhaley12 Wish I could help. Sometime it's difficult when others have already done things your not sure about. Might be better getting some new parts and starting over so you know what your working with.
what about the spring . is there a ring that holds the spring in the column thanks
Sorry for the delay, just saw your comment. This one didn't have a ring when I removed the wheel.
Cool stuff, you sure made it look easy... I am betting it was not.. :)
Your right. Sometimes these small jobs go south real quick. Nothing really is ever easy. lol.
What keeps the shaft from moving in and out?
Zac, I'm not sure on that one. I didn't go into the column that deep and its been a few years since. Hopefully another viewer can answer your question.
The steering column/shaft is fixed to the steering box on Tri-5s.
Is this the same assembly for the 1960 Bel Air column?
I have never worked on a 60 model, but I would think they are very similar.
Double R Restorations OK, thanks. I wasn't sure quite how to reassemble it. I'm going to go off the manual but they are crude. I was hoping the Tri 5 manuals would be a better description as they are more popular cars. I call him had a lot of old grease which I am going to remove. I'm guessing I can repack the bearings and column with lithium grease. Thanks
It looked a lot easier than a tilt column
Yes, definitely. Thanks.
? will the wheel fit a 1953 ford sedan...
I'm not sure if it will.
Didn't show how to get the horn ring off or how it installs.

Thanks, and thanks for watching!
1 Corinthians 15:3-4
For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.
Amen brother, and he is returning for us soon, being the first fruits of the resurrection! Until then we will continue on the Great Commision.
