OK. I just finished the power steering pump. Now I'm ready for the steering column on my 57 sedan delivery. Thanks to YOU. Where were all these videos when I was growing up? Oh that's right. We didn't even have the internet. 🤔
This will definitely help. Just took delivery of my ‘55 Nomad “project car”. The car was originally 3-speed/manual (which is long gone) and I’m going to put in a PowerGlide. I will have remove the original column, hunt down one for column shift/automatic and do the swap.
Good idea on the flat rope! Did you pull it down or pull it up when installing the rope? My 55 horn just decided to get set off when turning the wheel one day...Once I get the wheel off I hopefully will see a bare wire I can cover else I am looking at a new bearing too. I really appreciate your time and excellent presentation and if I can get back here I will report on my situation--which should have been done a while ago but I cannot find the wheel puller so awaiting the UPS guy!!
I'm doing the opposite here. I'm taking my stock steering wheel off my57, along with the two section under it. The wheel came off easy and the section that that has all the blinker connection came off easy too. I took off the 3 prong ring that held the last section on, but the last section wouldn't come off. The ring is off and I believe it should slide off, Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
So it has been so long since I took that unit apart. I did this as a favor for my neighbor. We mainly work on second gen Camaros. Are there any screws from the backside?
Shouldn't be too bad. Have a steering wheel puller on hand before starting and take some pics or vids of the disassembly. It probably wont be much different than the 55.
I recently bought a 55 Chevy 210. I noticed that it was leaking something, checked the new CPP500 unit and the guy before me installed it, it was actually moving when I cut the wheel. Another friend told me it probably ruined the bearings in the new unit, the previous owner also cut the column down to 27" so I have no idea what I need to do to fix this. Please someone give me some advice on this, thanks.
+TheJhaley12 Wish I could help. Sometime it's difficult when others have already done things your not sure about. Might be better getting some new parts and starting over so you know what your working with.
Zac, I'm not sure on that one. I didn't go into the column that deep and its been a few years since. Hopefully another viewer can answer your question.

Nice job. Very informative, this will help me tremendously with my new retro steering wheel. Appreciate your attention to detail and your narrative.

Great work. So clean you can do it without any shoes on. lol
Lol, yea I spent a lot of time working on this car in my socks.

Right On Man" Steering Columns Can Be A Pain In The Rear End ^*^*^*>~>~>~>~^*^*^ Thanks For Sharing""" Good Job By The By!!
I was worried about it. I had a bad experience with the one for my Camaro.
Helpful video! Thanks alot.

Git R Done!!
Nice work RR. Clean as a whistle. I need to rebuild the horn and signal switch in my 62 C10. Any advice? I have never had a steering wheel off.
Shouldn't be too bad. Have a steering wheel puller on hand before starting and take some pics or vids of the disassembly. It probably wont be much different than the 55.
Thanks Russ.
very nice great work
Thanks Hanson.
Thank you....very useful!
Thanks, and thanks for watching.
It looked a lot easier than a tilt column
Yes, definitely. Thanks.
? will the wheel fit a 1953 ford sedan...
I'm not sure if it will.
Cool stuff, you sure made it look easy... I am betting it was not.. :)
Your right. Sometimes these small jobs go south real quick. Nothing really is ever easy. lol.
what about the spring . is there a ring that holds the spring in the column thanks
Sorry for the delay, just saw your comment. This one didn't have a ring when I removed the wheel.
Didn't show how to get the horn ring off or how it installs.

What keeps the shaft from moving in and out?
Zac, I'm not sure on that one. I didn't go into the column that deep and its been a few years since. Hopefully another viewer can answer your question.
The steering column/shaft is fixed to the steering box on Tri-5s.
The people that knocks this block need to shut there holes form Chucky from good old Aussie land

Amen brother, and he is returning for us soon, being the first fruits of the resurrection! Until then we will continue on the Great Commision.
