    For everyone criticizing her for her accent, she’s been living in France for some time now. She speaks French and she also speaks Spanish and Portuguese. You tend to pick up on an accent and sometimes your brain has a hard time switching from language to language and you have to remember the correct words in other languages. I find it funny that Americans (I’m American btw) will criticize others for having a heavy accent but then when somebody does use the correct accent for a country, suddenly it’s pretentious.

    Beautiful soul and mind. She speaks in such a thoughtful, deep and articulate way. I love this interview although she feels uncomfortable because the interviewer doesn't really atune with her. I find the comments on her accent so insulting! Most of musicians and all people with a highly sensitive earing pick up accents! Focus on what matters!

    She seems to have taken on an accent over the years - if she's been spending a lot of time in another country that could be why...she's excellent 🔥

    I also saw her in Chicago last month (October 3rd 2015) and the show WAS amazing. However, (shakimaro, since you were at that same show) you would have noticed she's done some code switching again. Now we have the Mississippi Delta region of the deep American South. No traces of French or Brazilian. Jackie K caught the same show a week later. What you're referring to as street ghetto is her new fascination with "Mississippi Goddamn" style. What I'm beginning to love and realize, far above all others, is that we have a chameleon artist here that will change and evolve continually and give us music and performance from a variety of Genres. We'll never get bored with her music, as she keeps us guessing.....what, or who, will she next be?

    Any musician living in a foreign country is bound to acquire an accent unless their ear is not that great. In Melody’s case her reaction to sound is hyper-sensitive because she is an artist. It’s a shame some people view this this as an obstacle in hearing the intelligence of her responses to some goofy questions during this interview.

    • @tobiasfischer6130
      @tobiasfischer6130 4 года назад

      @Otie Jason she had an accident resulting in severe neural damage which left her hyper sensitive to sound and light, which is btw why she always wears sunglasses.

  • @nana-iv3si

    I don't think that she's faking her accent. Some people are just weak to accents. I used to speak with broken English before but after watching a bunch of British youtubers suddenly my accent sounds more British. Because it rubs off on you. Even when people move to different towns within their own country, after a while their accent typically changes. For some people that change is bigger than others. Everyone is different.

    Soooo, we have a French accent? I love Melody! I love her music! Is this Philadelphia girl so affected since her move to France to put on a faux French accent (complete with broken English)? Reminds me of Madonna, whom put on a faux British accent when she was enamored with England. I'm really hating the thought of Melody being as pretentious as Madonna. Please say it isn't so :-[

    • @kbld1
      @kbld1 9 лет назад

      Karen Martinotti - I was wondering about that, too. I think she may have wished she were born in France. Her accent has been evolving over the years and perhaps, when in Rome, one speaks like a Roman.

    • @karenmartinotti4792

      kbld1 In all fairness, I have to admit, I unwillingly pick up accents, mannerisms and tics myself (even stuttering during a brief conversation once!). It's uncontrollable and even embarrassing at times, so I shouldn't criticize. After all, she has been in France and Brazil the past several years and I'm sure I would sound quite like a foreigner too. However, it seems really thick, broken and a bit contrived. I heard her make reference in an interview, of a French waiter who welcomed her back to France, which of course she had not been from France. The inference was that she was, perhaps, a reincarnation, an old soul who had once been a Parisian denizen in another time that this waiter had recognized. She just seems a little too.....affected?

    • @nharveyrep
      @nharveyrep 8 лет назад +3

      +Karen Martinotti I love her accent, but more then that what she has to say, too bad so many are tripped up on how she speaks and not paying more attention to the content, perhaps too Deep for this crowd.

    • @shakimaro
      @shakimaro 8 лет назад +1

      +Karen Martinotti Yep. I was thinking the exact same thing. Even her look seems pretensions. But I would not compare her to Madonna on the count that she can sing and can write. Madonna is a drama queen who talks negatively about others while Melody spreads the message of love, peace and acceptance. So no Madonna here. But yeah, that little "act" is off putting to me. Her music is some of the very best that I've heard from an artist currently alive.

      +Nancy Harvey To me it looks pretentious and I'm personally turned off by it. I liked her look more in the first two albums. She went a little strange in recent years. But her music, which is what is really important, has been amazing still. New album is gorgeous from start to finish.

      @Silver I'm not American and I am well versed in the English language, hence my noticing her deliberate pauses to 'think' of the right word in English. It has nothing to do with her 'ladylike' status. Take a seat.

    • @mimad57
      @mimad57 3 года назад

      @Silver what are you? her dad? I know she is a born and bred American and also know that she has been called out for pulling this accent stunt by people who have worked with her. I did not say pauses equate to broken English. I said forced pauses to make it LOOK like she can't think of a word, is fake.

      Actually, I did after staying for only two years in Italy 😂😂 It happens when you stop comunicating in your native language on a daily basis. Also, I speak fluently 4 languages, it could be the case for multilingual people.
