Read one of Nickey's rare interviews and totally fell in love with her. No bullshit, say it like it is, no holds barred. Wicked great song writer and pianist. Play on.....until I get there 🎶
What is her story? I just saw the FANNY movie--The Right To Rock--and she is not in it and they only say she did not want to have anything to do with the band anymore . AT ALL. WHat else is her story? She is so talented!
@@wandanowicki2267 Hi! She retired from music pretty much after the release of this LP. She has gone on record as stating that she is exceedingly proud of her time in Fanny and their contributions to music, but that that particular phase of her life was very fraught and she just prefers not to think about it. She has had limited contact with her former bandmates and there is no longer any true animosity on any side, it's just that everyone's moved forward at this point. Oh, and during that interview she also mentioned that their manager's dog once pooped in Alice's bass drum :D
@@hannesstuber222 Yes, my understanding is she no longer performs at all, but it still very glad that people remember her. That's very interesting that you mention Ireland because she was speculated to have possibly gone there at one point during her extended absence,
Fanny was certainly a great band, and probably one of the most underrated bands of the era, but you do realize that NONE of these tracks are Fanny. They are all from Nickey's solo album "Diamond in a Junkyard." I was her guitarist during this period and I can tell you ,she was an absolutely amazing talent. She was up there with the likes of Janis Joplin. Terry Reid was her male counterpart. Both relatively unknown to the general public, but both among the very best singers and musicians of the last 50 years.
@@alicedebuhr6457 The collaborations with Nickey on the Fanny music is an incredible thing to watch, especially the chemistry between you on two on the Blind Alley video.
This is my first time hearing this. Excellent stuff. Much better than the stuff that would follow in the next few years like The Runaways, GoGos , etc.
The entire band Fanny and especially Nickey were so very unique and unexplainably a very underrated band. She was an Amazing and Original style keyboardist. Watching her play the piano was as mesmerizing and hypnotic as watching Ruth Underwood play the Marimba and Vibraphone with Frank Zappa and The Mothers. Fortunately, My older sister was hip to the band Fanny in the 70's So I got to hear their music at a very young age. I still prefer to listen to female vocalists and musicians. My favorites are, Gin Wigmore... Tori Amos... Beth Hart... POE... Luscious Jackson... Ambrosia Parsley of Shivaree... Hari Lake... Dragster Barbie... LunaChicks... Betty Blowtorch... Hole... The Donnas... Cycle Sluts From Hell... Bif Naked... Etc...
It's too bad the ladies in Fanny couldn't have figured out a way to get past the infighting. They would have been in the Hall of fame many years ago if they had been able to hold it together. Unfortunately, this is the story in the majority of bands (even the Beatles). Everybody wants to be the big dog. The great ones who survive are the ones who can eat their ego enough for the good of everybody.
Indeed, though I understand there were few Nickey Barclay did get on with. She has a tendency to make too many enemies, she never did learn when best to bite her tongue. Within Fanny it was only drummer Alice de Buhr who was on reasonable terms with her. When the group were on the road touring, which they did a lot of, it was Alice who was tasked with getting an often cranky Nickey Barclay out of bed in the morning after a gig. None of the others (manager and roadies included) would go anywhere near her.
I like her solo album
Nickey was such a good piano 🎹 payer

This band should be in every top rock band chart ever and with the leaders! They keep blowing me away. They are all amazing!
This isn’t Fanny - it’s Nicky Barclay with other musicians
@@brianfergus839 yeah.. she's the shit but fanny with both sisters was amazing
Most comments seem to assume this is a recording by the band called Fanny.
Read the description.
It isn't.
She was a phenomenally talented musician. I'm sorry she went through so much, but I am glad she is doing well. :)

Alice is so hot. Such a great drummer.

Beautiful song...thank you Nickey !!
Had a crush
Damn fine song, poignant lyrics ❤❤❤
When will we ever see a group a talented musician like this again, each one of them brings a special something and dimension to their music.
Thanks, Carlton. I appreciate it.

Great song!❤ Per usual for her
Love this album, it’s a shame it’s impossible to find.
Love this band so much. Like to listen to them every day.

Shame they didn't have better management. Can imagine a lot of my female friends being fans of theirs.
Unbelievable soft rock from those beautiful girls .thanks
Love em ALL- FROM CHI-TOWN!!!!!
@Ahmad Fahad
This isn't by Fanny. This is Nickey Barkley solo.
You are right /and i think she got the talent from the spirit of the band . thanks 👍
Pretty song!!!
love em
Aw Nickey x

Wow, I didn't remember this one. How is that possible?
If you want to dance... You got to pay the band!
Good song even in this horrible corrona time.
Indeed. Quite often it seems that the " oldies but goodies " work so well. Take Care

The prolific Waddy Wachtel on guitar...I notice your name icon matches the video. Are you Nickey?
This is Nickey Barclay, not Fanny.
F*NNY IS THAT I WOKE UP (HAVE SEEN A BAD DREAM..) TO SEE MY DAUGHTER DID MAIL ME OR NOT…AND THIS IS WHAT I FOUND OUT ..I KNOW U LOVE IT.
Nickey sounds like the real songster for Fanny.
They split the songwriting. About half the songs were hers.
she is a true wizard on the keyboards
The Millington sisters were also Fanny's songwriters. It's just that they had different musical outlooks, tastes and influences.
yup they are all lucky to have been in the same room as Nickey. They play Nickey's songs even without her there.
"Place in the Country" and "Blind Alley" Rock
I think you'll find it's Jeff Eyrich, not Jeffery Rich.
nickey barclay although amazingly talented didnt fit with June, apparently they couldnt stand each othjer in fanny

Very talented but very hard to deal with. And June loved poppy ballads
@@peterminshull990...yeah,but even Alice talks about how hard she could be to deal with. Alice seems to be the opposite .
