Find it difficult to get excited for a race like the King George as much as I used to, when the first four in this race would be comfortable favourite for it and none of them are involved. It’s like a premier league vs a championship match so far as the quality of horses involved.
In my opinion fact to file is special his novice season was good beating the arkle winner but I am so glad I listened to Willy's brother Tony because he said last season that fact to file was a monster now I believe him what a race the cheltenham Gold Cup is going to be if everyone shows up
Looking like it's going to be a big season for JP, these two look like they could handle anything and he's got plenty others with good chances in the big races.
what a great classic race this is pinnacle stuff ran 5min flat on a soft to Vsoft. Galopin put up a serious pace for a gold cup horse. Thats why willie talks about grange west when you put up these fast paces you peel the non stayers off and the real horses come to the forefront. Now if this was 3miles would of been slower pace and galophin would still have loads under him i think he learned a lot today by running out front and putting the other horses on the back foot thats fast work for him in this in terms of speed to furlong ratio its top stuff for him considering he's almost a mile off his distance. Fastorslow will like a bit fresher ground and another few furlongs as we know.
GALOPIN probably won't Front-Run every time w/ some Pace horses around, but having that Option in his Pocket to Inherit leads if the Gallop is Slow could be Useful; Townend will likely utilize Stalk and Pounce like the Winner, but he ran Well; FAST OR SLOW could be excused on Season Debut, but Fading after challenging 4 Jumps from Home will have to be fixed, though the Jury will be out on whether the Top 2 can Stay 3M & Up; But if they can, that's an "added" problem to dealing w/ their ability @ 2M; it's certainly become more Interesting than it already was; Outstanding Horse Race, High-Cass Horsepower
Could be one of the best gold cups in a long time. There's 5 or 6 top class Irish horses and maybe Grey dawning could improve from the british. Should be a great season
A credit to NH. The likes of Nicky Henderson would come out in a rash and have a twitching fit even watching such a brilliant competitive race prior to March, and we wonder why English NH racing is such a third-rate shambles.
In fairness Hendo does have to keep his owners happy which is why many of their best horses don't race each other before Cheltenham, Sir Gino and State Man being the obvious example also JP horses
Superb race and going forwards I would be confident about Fact to File from 2 1/2 to 3 miles and just not sure about 3m2f up the hill at cheltenham. Spillane's Tower ran a great race but just wondering if he's definitely best over trips on the shorter side. Quite impressed with Minella Cocooner as this really was as short as he could go but out in trip he may be difficult to beat. I expected every horse in the race today to improve as the season goes on.
Agreed, any horse with the pace of FTF has to be considered for the King George as it can favour speed horses who never quite got the trip in the Gold Cup like One Man and Wayward Lad
Good Points: And in follow-up to those, the talk is S TOWER may be looking @ Ryanair @ the Durkan Distance, but he could get 3 / 3 1/2 Miles He, along w/ the Winner have Options: Exciting horses
That's the difference with Irish racing, they're not scared 4 their best to race each other. They're not terrified of losing. Coz they know BEST vs BEST is what the racing public wants and keeps racing alive. If F2F, FOS and GDC were trained by English trainers ? This race would have never happened. Jerry Hannon ? He could make the drying of paint sound exciting. Not only is he easily the best racing commentator. I actually think he's the best commentator in any sport that I've heard, and I'm a sporting nerd.
Hannons emotion and raw feel is great but he never tells you if a horse jumps bad is fighting off the bit at the back of the pack etc he just repeats himself for 5mins and gets exciting at the finish , doesn’t actually commentate and tell the average viewer what’s occurring

Great race today and really whetted the appetite. Galopin is some horse, and yeah, he could win again in March, but FTF ? That's only his fifth run over fences and Mark Walsh hasn't really let the handbrake off yet. Even today, was it two flicks with the stick ? We don't know yet if he'll stay 3m2f, and there's only one way to find out, but he's my idea of the winner.
FTF won the Brown Advisory, so I think there's every chance he will stay the Gold Cup distance. Mind you, it will take a good one to beat Galopin. I thought he ran an awesome race!
all 4 home will be grade 1 winners again this season. Des champs to win gold cup, fact to file to win ryanair chase or KG i think he suits the KG more and Gaelic warrior suits the Ryanair but. fastorslow to win Irish gold cup at punchestown.
Reaction to this was predictable. Let's just jump on Fact To File for the Gold Cup, and ignore everything else. This was his best performance by a long way, and it's come at the intermediate trip. A performance good enough to win a Ryanair, but he's 20/1 for that race. He's totally unproven in this class over 3m+. My feeling was that he won at the Festival despite the trip. It was a weak race. A lot of this stayers tag has just originated from winning a bumper over 2m4f. There should not be the disparity between the prices for the two Festival races.
It was a weak race because he scared off all the competition. No one wanted to take him on. He hasn't won in this class over 3m because he hasn't ran in this class over 3m. But this is his 5th ever run over fences and he's beaten some top top horses. To be doing that at this stage of his career without even really being tested is mighty impressive. Disparity is due to the fact there is absolutely no way after this performance JP doesn't send him to the gold Cup. Cheltenham races aren't NRNB yet so if you take that 20/1 you've got a losing ticket before the race even goes off.
@@adking18 You are just posting an opinion with far less fact involved than my original post. In fact virtually everything you have said is purely your opinion.
