    This is beautiful writing and cinematography. It's a perfect example of a dialogue scene that features characters doing more than just standing/sitting in front of each other and talking.

      Thanks Luke! I rehearsed with the actors, blocked according to character beats, and storyboarded it all to make sure we got the angles we wanted with our limited amount of film. Only shot what we needed!

    Not only excellent cinematography but the acting was also 1st class. This makes one want to see more. Both actors were great but that young fellow has the potential to be a super star.

    Subtle piece of film-making. Simple , effective camera that doesn't interfere with the well-paced acting. A pleasure.

    This is a fantastic dialogue scene. Also, I absolutely love the look of 16mm.
    And if I'm honest, you've just inspired me. I'm a film student and when I think of a short film I always try to do a beginning middle and end of a story, but this is just dialogue and its better than anything I've ever made. It's like one scene of a movie, but without the context. It's perfect. Thanks dude, you just taught me something.

    Awesome, I wished it was a full feature. Can't stand the crap Hollywood makes on computers these days. I hope to shoot a feature on 16mm some day and films like this give me the faith that 16mm film is still alive and well but I'm 61 so I need to get it off the ground soon. Thanks for the inspiration!

    What i like the most is that it doesn't have music or any extra effects that taints the impact of the dialogs and the acting. I really love it. It's basically 16mm Dogma 95, except for the aspect ratio.

    Despite the knowledge that my opinion is irrelevant, I can't go without the necessity of expressing myself on the subject of film vs digital. First things first: I'm a film student, but that doesn't matter. What I'd like to point out is that I've been analyzing different Digital Cinema Cameras (Ursas, Alexas, Epic Weapons...) and to be honest, I dislike their look very much. As sharp and clean as it may be, simply doesn't feel like a movie. Although this was shot on film and digitally scanned for editing and distribution, therefore making it a digital product, the look and feel is much more organic and beautiful. The discipline of film is different and so the result is different. You can't fake film on digital. No matter how many overlays you apply in post. Congratulations on the film, I'm sure you and the team put a lot of effort into it.

    Why, there are no black bars on screen because it is 16mm camera .or you stretched the original

    • @truefilm1556
      @truefilm1556 6 лет назад

      SH concoct - hope you don't mind me chiming in, but this is VERY likely Super 16mm film, which has a wider image because it also uses the area reserved for the sound track on prints. It's a professional theatrical film camera format. The exact aspect ratio is 1.66:1, so you only have to zoom and crop very little top and bottom to get a sharp 16:9 image. Cropped regular 16mm (1.37:1) would be much grainier and softer. Stretching the image would lead to undesired distortion.
      Unfortunately many a 16mm film project does not include the exact camera model and format (gate) in the description. In another reply Mr. Baumgardner states he used an Arri SR2 (excellent camera BTW!), these cameras were built for easy full conversion to Super 16mm, so I guess that was the case.
      Hope this information helps.

  • @chrishultgren777

    Don't know why anyone would waste money on pro digital throw away cameras when super 16mm is vastly superior in image quality. We'll, I do know why, people don't want to learn how to operate a camera and want a computer to do it for them.
