As a Canadian from Alberta, I used to watch the heck out of this show when it aired on teletoon. It was cheesy sure, but at the same time, I totally loved it. There was something about it that it had a unique charm that kept you wanting to watch it episode after episode. Great show. ^_^

For a 1998 show, Keep in mind that back then, rendering a 3d animation would take hours. Example- Silent Hill 1's cutscene a 30 second scene literally took a guy 2 days while he rendered it on the entire office computers

To those of you still confused about how DK's hair grew back, the banana Diddy gave to DK happened to be a banana from the tree that grew after Bluster poured the magic potion on the ground. So in other words, the random tree actually *does* have relevance to the plot.
Donkey kong country actually aired first on French tv in 1996. In France we also had another donkey kong show called "DKtv", Donkey kong and various other characters from the dk universe were like tv presenters introducing other cartoons.
I think I heard somewhere that this cartoon was originally made in France. Does that explain the cartoon's weirdness? Also, for a TV show in the late 90's, this was pretty good CGI. The only things that had better CGI were movies, which had a bigger budget.

This show is both "so bad its good" and legitimately good. It really depends not he episode, there are some stinker episodes but some of them are really good. The animation is pretty crappy either way, though considering how early the show was in terms of 3D animation I think it is forgivable.

Actually, the antidote was poured on to the banana tree, and that final banana that DK ate by force actually came from the 'biggest' banana tree (The tree that Bluster grew). Since the fruit contains enough of the antidote it managed to grow DK's hair back. So, ya, it was used for the plot, but not effectively explained. I got to admit, this is possible one of the worse episodes to review from the show. I'm not defending, since I KNOW that the show is shit, but it does have a few decent/good episodes. Personally, I enjoy watching it since it is literally one of those shows that are bad, but enjoyable to watch for some unknown reason...guilty pleasure if that makes any since. Plus, I seriously like listening to some of the songs, since some aren't that bad, and kind of catchy. The songs are really unneeded, but nice to listen to, like DK's singing voice.
Oh my gosh, I remember watching this YEARS ago as a kid. Kinda nice to see that the older shows are getting mentioned again, wonder if anyone remembers Cyber Six (which was animated in Montreal, but started off as an Italian comic series)....

Love this show!! Saw it when it first aired on Fox Family in '97, its stuck with me up until now. The characters, voices, plots, script and of course the music are timeless! Im 27 and its still one of the best shows of all time, give this show a lil slack for wut it was at the time!
