Love the fact you have old worn in tools, and not Festool everything, like every other woodworker has on RUclips. I'm a Joiner/ Cabinet/furniture maker and appreciate the large amount of handwork you do, not cnc routered, you obviously know your stuff! Brilliant...
Thank you so much. What works well is not always popular, lol. It’s a therapeutic process and I like the extra quality control I can give by doing it this way.
Watching an artist take raw materials and work them into a piece of art is an entertaining process. You doing that to an engineered piece of art, that is a functional part of an airplane ✈️ elevates what you are creating well beyond that. Thank you for producing videos that are a pleasure to watch.

The last video I saw from another company in the states, they used a cnc and as I was scrubbing through I see they mentioned sanding on a drum sander 2 hrs later...incredible, even the labor intensive stuff is done by hand... Thats the kind of stuff Im willing to pay extra for
WOW….fabulous work. As an old Air Force Prop Mechanic, I was amazed at your technique of building props out of wood. I pass through Rolla on occasion and would love to see your shop. Please let me know if you give tours!
I love the way straight grain maple gives you the guides for shaping a smooth radius and taper on a piece. The Guitar necks I make usually are so close as to only need slight profile adjustments for individual feel. Nice work as always. Take care
What you do is what the EAA is supposed to be all about. I wish they'd return more to their roots with promoting experimentation, fabrication, engineering, design, etc. more. Seeking out various industry experts to help put together more books on all aspects of aeronautical engineering, research, latest ideas, etc. But it's good to see people recognizing and showcasing the work you do.
Im gonna be hypoxic by the time l finish watching you finish on that bandsaw! At first l was like "Well that looks simple enough". Then you tilted it on it's side and just started freehanding/eyeballing those blends. Then l realized l hadn't breathed in about a minute and a half!
Thanks for sharing. What a pleasurable RUclips rabbit hole. Popped up on my home page, I assume because of my interest in wood working videos, but I have never seen a wooden propeller made. Unique trade and craftsmanship.
I just needed to reach out and say this ; Hear is the thing, I have no interest in Planes as such, unless its a Spitfire!!, I can not fly, And half the time when your mentioning names and numbers of planes your Props are going to be fitted on too, Its like wooosh, right over the top of my head. However..... How I came upon your Channel is still a mystery to me, But the thing is I look forward so much to your content and explanations, I find it strangely satisfying and soothing to watch you work your magic and your skill levels are off the charts. It relaxes me, And for that I just wanted to thank you. There are very few things that can relax me the way you are able to do while watching you turn lumps of wood into works of art. THANK YOU. Take care and Stay safe. Love and Respect from North London UK.
i used to carve my own model airplane props because i had no money to buy them after they broke. brings back memories. you need to give 3m mesh paper a try.
I'm watching from far away from Japan, a propeller that is very beautiful whenever I see it, I want to make such a propeller someday, oh! It's a great job, even though it doesn't have an aircraft.
Nice work. I've made hundreds of props, all of them for model aircraft use for competition models, mostly for racing. Many of them were molded but some were carved from solid like in the vid. For the racing models I not only balanced the props for 15,000 rpm but I also matched the pitch distribution along the length of each blade.
when you added that post-it, and the prop stopped...my jaw dropped. jimmy's world just did a How It's Made for wooden props, and the people in the comments were talking about you, so i decided to check it out. so cool. subscribed!
This is great and all, but it would be nice if someone would do a video on how to make a variable-pitch propeller. I understand those are more complicated to construct, but I know it can be done.
you are amazing, the great skill you have, i love your videos, you dont make them everyday [ this is what makes them so good ] and your music choices are great, not loud or annoying. thank you so much for the effort you put into the videos tell how you do it
Hi Alaina i am Johan from South Africa and is learning how props work. I looked at your different props and want to know what is a prop on a direct drive i know how vw beetle engines work. Is the prop direct on the crack shaft with direct drive? Then i saw the plane back yard flyer with the vw beetle engine 2333 cc with a big prop and on a reduction drive pulley system. Is that prop a 92 inch prop or 74 inch prop? Then what size prop will you put on a 1600 vw beetle engine to cruise? And what size prop will you put on a 2 liter cc vw engine for quick takeoff and landing? Is it possible to buy a reduction drive pulley system from you guys i know the valley engineering is not building anymore planes or engines. I also want to tell you i am very impressed with your skills love your work i am also a carpenter build hunting bows i admire your work love it. Have a blessed day from South Africa Johan.
I've carved model props and touched up varnished props but a full prop in my life? But I do have a Kliptip McCauley. I just got a Michigan Wheel Sailer bronze prop. Yes, boat bronze props are hand made, but not to that perfection. I'll touch it up a little.
Oshkosh!!! Beautiful girl with a beautiful prop! Hahahaha awesome!! You are very skilled. Why do you balance vertical and horizontal? Where do you take wood from a vertical imbalance? You are amazing! Peace Rolf
@@CulverProps I never thought that a vertical measure was even a thing.. Hahaha maybe you could explain that I am very interested.. Thank you for all you do. It's alot of work and to make videos too? Thank you.. Have a good day tomorrow. Peace
Very nice! Love the colours of the wood. I’ve made one propeller so far (cherry) and it looks great… didn’t have the skill for bandsawing close to the hub so I used a variety of rasps, spoke shaves and small planes and it worked out really well…doesn’t take much time at all and you can go 1 mm at a time for extra care.
Culver drive - thru order : I'll take a Sprite, small fries, and a round tipped high altitude swept back prop with extra varnish layers. Will I have to wait long ?
I worked in an Eaton owned facility in New York one time and couldn’t figure out why the entire floor was made out of small 4x4 blocks of wood placed vertically in the floor. When I asked why I was told that they made P-38 propellers there during WWII, and the wood floor saved props that were inadvertently dropped.
I always thought propellers were manufactured under strict guidelines and instrumentation so all the curves and angles are exactly the same which is why they are balanced.....no just the hand and eye coordination of an artist that has waaaay to much patience for a human being.

As always another masterpiece!! Well done Alaina!
This is a fine example of making something very difficult look easy..
Nice to see craftsperson doing work the old fashioned way, hands on. If I could afford it I would buy one of your propellers just to hang on my wall.

That was great. You are really good with the saw and sanding. Bravo👍
2 mins in your freehand bandsaw angle cuts curled my toes you ran it so close, but so accurate. Best woodwork I've seen.
