The Mozart of the 20th century. Will be studied at school.
My friend studied him at uni for music production!
yes. He has personified the electrical/digital era.
growing up never having met another aphex twin fan in person it makes me so happy that many people are so passionate about his music. he's been my number 1 for years. you don't get to many modern day motzarts and I think rdj sort of is in a leauge of his own. an absolute god like legend.
Nobody talks about afx, that's all.
@@syrus3k i've asked around my campus, even played them one of his songs if they'd listen, and everyone said "who?" i will continue my quest
hi fellow fan. you just might like Sevish. maybe worth a try.
Listening to this period of Aphex is like returning home and having a nourishing meal.
2015?
matchghost yea
I am the one hundred twenty third like of this comment and didn't realize til just now. 123
I know. Especially because I wasn’t even paying attention and didn’t even know he’s been creating all these new works. Is really is like 😭🙏
more like sleeping outside and eating only cheetos puffs for four days
This man seems to know what he's doing
LOOOL - yes i think this guy might go far....
XDDDDD
A little bit, yeah...
He has a certain "git r done" about him
Aphex Twin's clock must have been frozen since the 90's. He seems to be in his own league when it comes to sound aesthetics and the sheer catalogue of tracks he's made publicly available. The kind of guy who would create simply because he wants to, period. It doesn't matter the label, or genre, or what people know about him. You listen to one of his tracks - any of them, and you know it's him. It has to be. He's one of his own kind and, in my opinion, one of the finest examples of what a wild, creative genius can do.
Prince had droves of music he produced, he said he was a slave to Warner? because they would not let him release any of it for various reason, mostly to pull as much money out of the people as they can without "overload", was one reason. They played the shit out of him and he tried to retain rights to his music but gave it back before he died, he did not want to be used by the industry.
Very well put.. and I completely agree.. with everything you write here! I am baffled pretty much every time I listen to AFX. But I totally do NOT understand, what Prince has to do with this..? Actually never really got the whole "Prince-thing"... at all! Many musicians had issues with their contracts, resulting in mutated realities and obscure roumers. It hazzn't been 24 hours since I heard some mumbo-jumbo about "Frank Zappa cheating Waner Bros out of 8 albums he owed them"..
My music is the same way. I just want to make it. Doesn't matter how it gets released, where it is, or how it gets out there. nobody has discovered me, is that's all.
Beardyman is like that, but funny at the same time. It's all just creativity. Difference is, Aphex Twin was doing this stuff before anyone else. Took years for the competition to catch up with him. Even then, noone comes close.
You don’t have to “get” Prince, or for that matter, Tesla...to comprehend that prolific talent is sidelined by industry in the name of profit and control. No one knows who Aphex Twin really is, so he is difficult to enslave. This is why Prince legally changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol and is relative to this discussion. It’s not about favored artists, it’s about the core principle of creative freedom.
I have to say it: this is one of the best AFX collections out there - it holds a certain playful emotion together and feels like a complete tour through his happier sounds
This music is a really good friend of mine.
I slept with her.
Music will never betray or bother us..
i love this comment, made me smile
Sams car tho.... bout makes me weep like a baby from the sheer beauty
I read it with a ryssian accent dkw
I love reading these comments. It's nice to know I'm not the only weirdo who was immediately gripped by this guy! His creations are unique indeed, that may even be an understatement
seeklife181
21 years i listen to him
@seeklife181 - exactly!! I love reading these comments too! Mola55e5's comment is brilliant! Matthew Yee-King's comment is so poignant. These comments are fantastic! Love you tubers!
Definitely 100% agree! :-)
Nothing weird about liking Aphex Twin
Afx is not for everyone, but if you love electornic music, you'll have a respect for it.
He is the reverb master - he knows exactly how to intertwine the different flavours of reverb into each other. which is hard thing to do well.

haha yes!!
On acid
hahahah
OH NO, OMAHAMAHO??? YES, YEEEEEEEEEEES BRUTHARS.
I had to skip straight to this track because of your comment. This track is oddly familiar.
Although we are almost the same age, he acts like a father. if you know your music, it frees you to do art. whether painting or making music and so on. He is a genius and frees future geniuses.
That's an awesome way to describe his music.
Ok that is a viewpoint i never had and absolutely love to adopt, like passing on creative current. Thank you So much dude!
Shakespeare is the Aphex Twin of literature
sense not make does
And not a bard.
Who has life going real hard, but atleast you ain't charred.
for t'is fate doth bring you here, eyes wide and starred
Ha!
18 with my family is probably one of the prettiest songs I've ever heard in my entire life.
BLΛCK SΛMPLE What do you even mean by pretty?
Lane webb.... when u hear some music cant u see the picture its painting in ur mind? Its pretty😊
Really nice to be listening to this while in quarantine. Either while hiking or studying these creations are sublime.
Rey Sandoval Bro I’ve been listening to him non stop! It’s getting me through this quarantine haha
As I have recently disvovered APHEX, it has set the stage for a new revolution in listening opening a new mindset.
Thank you for the open selection and inform me of new additions to come.
yes, keep listening curiously!
You seem nice
Feels good to come back to listening this after a month or two of listening to other stuff. Like a breath of fresh air, feels liberating.
God damn, love this. Love the laid back side of Aphex Twin.
+Kyle Donaldson most of mr. james' music is laid back like this
you've got some good shit to listen to
+Kyle Donaldson most of mr. james' music is laid back like this
you've got some good shit to listen to
Ken Walker I think it's pretty safe to say he has all kinds of stuff. Old school Aphex and AFX there are plenty of "dance" trackis. So therefor this laidback style is still one side of many...making what I said still make sense.
+Kyle Donaldson
AFX.... 'dance' music.... haha. maybe redlof.b from analord 11 or maybe if u dance on acid. Rich's easy tracks are best enjoyed when listened to sandwiched between his more core material.
mmmmmmm afxsandwich (its like spicy food, the pain is enjoyable and desserts are best enjoyed sparingly)
+Kyle Donaldson I like this version of Aphex better too.
I hope someone somewhere one day will put all this unreleased stuff on vinyl. That's be totally awesome and I'd pay good money for it...
puppetmaster customs yeah I as well, would pay money for that.
I'd pay money to watch you pay money.
I'd pay money to have you pay me money.
I'd pay money to watch you pay me my money.
I would like to buy the vinyl, to rip the songs, then sell the mp3 online, then with the money i would buy the vinyl again to sell and watch people paying me money, while i give the money for the buyer to watch me reciving his money, and only then i would listen to record i sold while paying for the owner to do so
When i hear lackluster electronic music on the radio, i always think :' what happened to quallity electronics'. Aphex Twin always grabs me by my senses and lets me know there is still a whole world here to explore. Thanks for ever!
Aphex Twin is a genius!
RDJ's (Aphex Twin) Mozart to Uwe Schmidt's (Atom TM) Beethoven....Damn we're so lucky!
In fact he is god!
yeah thank god for aphex twin :)
Literally this as a standalone album is so much better than anything new I've heard in a long time. Thank you Richard
I feel like I’ve found an old box in the attic full of pictures of me and my friends when we were young, that I didn’t even know about. I feel like crying. In a bittersweet kinda way. Mostly sweet.
Just like I will feel about Boards of Canada, the nostalgia is amazing in this sounds.
aphex is one artist that will never change to fit the public eye or try something new that's not their style or name, his music is forever stuck far in the future stumbled upon the genre of techno and mastered it so hard that anyone who has a name in electronic music today by default has to put Aphex twin as the base level of all their inspiration. at first glance people hear obscure simple sounding music that seems to be made by someone with a scatter brain. never realizing this is the pioneer of all modern techno. the mid seventies discovered synthesizers and played around with them like kids until Richard came along and was like watch what all this stuff can actually do. the emotion of this music is so on point to something inside everyone. that need to jest relax and breath and keep truckin. but he does throw you curve balls at times with some of the more obscure songs that sound like electronic bugs all gnashing in a pile while strange factory machines are cutting through steel in the background. like Jesus he was one of the first people to figure out how to turn a god damn sound into an image with a sonograph. and incorporate it into a song. like if music has the power to open all the pathways into brain and spring up emotion like magic then putting an image inside of the sound itself probably has something more of an effect on the subconscious. btw the image he put in the song was a very odd and creepy as hell version of his face smirking oddly with his front teeth out. 10/10 would have nightmares again just to be near that level of genius.
+TheSlenderman how do you understand this kind of music
its called an acquired taste. like anchovies. witch i love. i think im gonna get an anchovie pizza now.
Slacker4Life3
just because you listen to the same cookie cutter shit all the time doesn't mean that's all that music can be. most people don't fully grasp how to listen to music. they only scratch the surface on what entertains them. its when you begin to truly embrace the sound and get deep into the feeling of the song. lyrics or not you can get intense feelings and emotional reactions and bucket loads of natural dopamine in your brain that send shivers up your spine and goosebumps. sadly most people only get that close to music when on E pills and molly.
TheSlenderman i was trying to learn. just saw my original comment came off as being a dick lol. i just found this kind of music now
+Slacker4Life3 sorry for my rudeness tho. i get a bit salty when people hate on things they don't understand i checked out your channel and i see you actualy liked a couple of thiese albums. i suggest melodies from mars. and ritchard d james album also check out the song Vordhosbn on the druks album. i remember being 14 in grade 9 seeing this guy in a trench coat with glasses in the lunch room in grade 12 hanging out with this other guy who looked like the lead singer of Metallica wearing a Metallica t shirt and they were listening to the flashbulb and aphex twin full blast and the principle came in and shut the show down and the Metallica guy smashes his head straight into the plate glass window on the door with the wire mesh in it and Vordhosbn was loud and getting to the end and hes smashing his head into the glass bleeding and shit and they are like dragging him away and the vice pulls the cord and all goes silent in the lunch room after they were escorted to the office. truly odd fellows needless to say i became friends with them a day later and asked what was that song you were blaring when that shit went down and ever since then Ive had a deep love for obscure techno. flash bulb is another great artist of this category .
Mr Richard D. James seems to have an endless well of music. Such a productive musician. It's a pity it is so hard to acquire hard copies of a lot of this music.

17 kids beach - вот это атмосфера, старая школа.
+Юрий Сергеевич Yeah my fave
Него шта него стара, брате мој.
for 20 years been my favourite living ARTIST
don't want to be like a Victorian river Thames drowning rescue and blow smoke up his arse
but I do immediately judge people when they dislike his music & avoid them forever, as soon as I heard him I knew
druqs is possibly my favourite album
Been listening to drukqs since it came out, and it still mystifies me with its complexity. How the &*$% is someone able to create such intricate music?! Apparently he produced most of Mt Saint Michel + Saint Michaels Mount in a car on his laptop, while his girlfriend was driving on a visit to France.
trevor unswin I find druqs not the easiest, but it is brilliant. I had Avril 14 played on a beautiful piano in the church on my wedding day, so special
so sweet .avril 14th .& boy girl 2 of my favourite pieces of music
lots of people have complained when I play aphex twin
they are judged harshly:)
love light and balance to you and your husband
ps I just found a band called tycho play awake album loads
The same for me. If I'm about to make the list of my best artists (I'm loyal with) Aphex Twin would be on top of it. Second would be "old" Bjork", and on the trird position I wolud locate a non-famous YTber Lukhash. "Pi"- ziq is also quite good.
My favourite too! I stopped chatting to a guy once that said his music was shit. I said we have nothing in common, please dont contact me again. hehe
This is dope for the ears. Collaps of the synaps :D
Thank you so much for this - Richard is just so unbelievably talented it's ridiculous!
Brilliant. Listened pretty much constantly for a week now, still going.
Love the Sigil and the mix. Love to my fellow AFX pals. Early morning Clissold just wipes me out. Richard's ambient tunes always evoke images of the sea for me. Love it always and thanks to him for what he has done.
13 high hats tune tamclap orig, just wow...
Thats one damn fine tune
yep
This dude might be my favorite human ever.
19 slow early morning is a gift from heaven.
Thank you thank you Richard!
So many of these tracks got me feeling nostalgic as fuck on the FIRST listen. Big up dat Afex magic.
If there is an after life, this is the music I want to hear in the background, soulgasms forever.
Honored to hear this collection.
18 with my family just made this moment perfect for me...
nice selection man
+Nicolás Bugueño He loses points for being a poser and representing this as an Aphex Twin production. Not that it hasn't been done a million times b4.....
He is a genius of our age. He will likely get the recognition once we are all gone, but who cares really, as long as we get to enjoy what is made. (and i guess he enjoys making it) F* beautiful.
i think he has already gotten such accolades, given that his music has been around for 2 decades + now...
on je stvarno nevjerovatan.
Something is ever truly valued until its gone
fuckin hell this is good
I listen to the first track here and I immediately get Selected Ambient Works vibes. This is good.
Sound more like analogue bubblebath imo
discovering this music has seemingly been an awakening for me. i'm a 17 yr old producer aspiring to follow in the footsteps of many, and aphex is definitely someone i am astounded by. his style is unparalleled in syncopative complexity and polyrhythmicality. hearing his music for the first time is something i realize many of his fans desperately wish to experience again and i am cherishing everything to the best of my capabilities.
The amazing thing is that he has so much. Even after years of listening you will still discover new gems
@@sgu00dir You can discover new tracks for the rest of your life.
Enjoy the journey. I've been listening to him for 20 years and only in the last few years have I realised just how unique he truly is.
i wonder if he is aware of how much we appreciate his music, those sounds are a genre of its own.
MarathonInfinityHalo,
I’m sure he is! Why wouldn’t he be,
He's a human so I assume he owns a computer and browses the net on occasion
Aphex Twin is an example of what happens when you are completely unbothered about the "industry" and simply create for creation's sake. He doesn't create music - he creates movements.
15 sekonda is absolutely brilliant... that sweet spot where afx meets steve reich!
meets Popul Vuh too, right? It's epic!
I thought exactly the same!!
Years later, I still come back to this. It's such a beautiful collection, honestly. One of the best mixes out there, great job!
I listen to Richards music since my teenage years and still love it. Quite the soundtrack of my life! I‘m thankfull for everything.
Exactly what i needed
57:30 - 15 sekonda - Lovely track.
i agree. really haunting

The last track could be music for Hayao Miyazaki's movies.
Or satoshi kon films
sams car and 17 kids beach might be my favorites
this is the real example that you don't need drugs to be happy.
He kinda went off on the Aphex Acid in the 90s
52:25 that Wagon Christ Remix struck me hard, they used to play his _Sci Fi Staircase_ at SomaFM's Groove Salad channel all the time, back in 2008 or 2009. _Good_ memories.
Good to see another fan of Groove Salad on here.
In 2015 I listened to Slow Early Morning on a flight from the midwest to Boston while the sun rose. Looking out the window. Pure bliss.
Thanks for putting this together, I think you've done a great job selecting the choice cuts.
The song that starts at 9:48 is totally Donkey Rhubarb's little brother. :)

Makes me smile that it started out with such a great track :)
I put this album on and forgot about it, look up again and it was already finishing! Such an easy listen, Aphex Twin is truly at the top of the game.
RDJ knows how its done....his music's so good he doesn't even have to market it that much, and this keeps the mystique going. My favourite artists are those you don't know much about. So many artists these days love the sound of their own voice.
I've only just found Aphex Twin 20 years ago.....
and English is my first language.
Was that *supposed* to make no sense at all?
This work of songs put together is so nice! Thank you :)
uploaded on my birthday. thx, good job!
It is entirely possible that the only reason I am barely glad to be alive so that I can listen to Aphex Twin...
Word to that, bit keep your chin up x
Amazing that this compilation were essentially selections from SoundCloud. This is far superior than some (really though, most) other artists main product. Legend
Thank you for sharing. It had been a while since I last got excited listening to Aphex's new stuff
Everytime I hear 18 with my family I decide it's time to get a piano. It's time.
im just sitting here laughing hysterically at 1:30am alone in my room cuz this music is so fucking good that i cant help but laugh at the fact that a god damn human being made such incredible auditory crack for our ears. like holy fackin hell idk what to do other than laugh and smile and be happy that this exists.maybe ill even cry a little and try to inject these tunes into my veins. goodnight and thank you Richard

I quickly gathered the soudcloud dump, but have always enjoyed your mix of it since you first published. Just wanted to say thanks and nice work.
I'm always amazed by his staying power, blew my mind, not long ago, when I realized I had been listening to Richard James and all his elements for 30 years. I was 12 years old listening to Whitesnake when I first heard him. I don't listen to Whitesnake anymore, not unless I have to.
Last track is stunning.
That personel touch...to know its what REJ likes.. Love this mix. So good to drive the Autobannes by nite to.
Simply awesome. Cheers!

Recordaba a Aphex Twin como algo violento, sin melodía, atonal... pero caramba muchachos, esto es el cielo de la electrónica
I’m sure we can all agree, Richard is the most inventive and iconic producer of his time. Thanks mate your music has helped me a lot!
Extraordinary, the lot of it. We already thought the guy was a genius. And now it turns out that he had pretty much a whole parallel career and most of it was as good as the stuff that got released! Just nuts.
Is there a download somewhere I can get this as a complete .zip?
you could look up youtube to mp3 converter and download it that way, though, it won't be in .zip format :-)
Just DL the freeware Audacity and make it yourself.
Just go to peggo.tv and copy this URL in there.
Yes buy it , that is how he makes his money .
I love despite the cult, live strong
