The reasons for sacking ratten were purely cultural and development related, not based on performance outcomes. Complete defamatory lie.
Saints sacked Ratten because they weren't winning. Simple. You can try and dress it up as "...culture and development..." related but if St Kilda were up the top of the ladder he'd still be there. Now it's a complete excuse-athon every weekend when they lose under Lyon. Now, all of a sudden the brass were wrong about the list, the midfield aren't up to it, blah blah blah.
I like Ross Lyon as a character but he's very obviously not the saviour Saints fans - as well as ex-players, the media and Board - were expecting.
@@jaredburgess8381 you cant just state things that are factually and objectively untrue then say “simple” and it’s magically true. If st Kilda made the 8 Ratten still would’ve been sacked. Nice guy but clearly incompetent.
Irrespective of what you think about the treatment of Ratten or Ross’ performance Gerald’s comments are materially misstating words that were written in a report. That is misinformation 101 and it is defamatory.
Um yes they did. Their incredibly delusional President Andrew Basset literally said something on the lines of "we think our list is a capable of much better things" during Ross Lyon's first press conference after they announced him as Coach. That exact same incredibly delusional President towards the end of last season went on the Saints Podcast and once and again talked up the list. Maybe do your research properly.
How exactly was Ratten incompetent. It was under him they actually won a Final and pretty damm comfortably too against a long time rival the Bulldogs in his first season as Coach. It was under him Max King quite clearly played his best footy and it was under him they actually attacked the footy. Sure they were pretty poor defensively but quite frankly most middling teams are naturally bound to be with the type of footy that is largely required in the modern game.
@@taliamason7986 ahh sorry didn’t realise the president wrote the contents of report and/or what the president said on a podcast was actually the report. Going forward please read before commenting.
@@taliamason7986 I don’t care about what the club or president has said or anything else in regard to this issue. All that matters is that Gerald (knowingly or unknowingly knowingly) lied about a statement of fact, he spread misinformation. We see this all the time in political reporting, and it’s beginning to seep into AFL media (see also the “north are debt free” narrative pushed by so many recently which is also incredibly factually untrue). We need to stamp this out and hold journalists to a higher account.
I see no reason why Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon or Melbourne couldn't knock Sydney off if they play them in Melbourne.
Sydney smashed Collingwood at the MCG round 1.
@@MrRocco1974 Collingwood are a different team now.
@MrRocco1974
Irrelevant. Tigers also rolled the Swans in round 3. Doesn’t mean they could do it again.
The comp is pretty close at the minute, what happen 2 months ago is irrelevant to now. It’s at the point where if any team is a bit off they could go down to “lesser” teams quite easily. Look at the Eagles smacking the Dee’s.
Or the Hawks nearly rolling port.
@@MrRocco1974
Collingwood were a month behind in their preparation - Brisbane & Collingwood players started pre-season training later than the other clubs after playing in the GF last october.
- beaten by a half strength Sydney team tells the story.
Saints beat Collingwood too.
Haven't lost since - despite injuries.
Season is a marathon not a sprint - you build up conditioning to peak in finals.
As David King said - watch out if you peak too soon - and will Heeney burn out?
- you also need luck with injuries...Pies not having much luck at the moment -who knows?
@@MrRocco1974round 1 wins mean fk all besides the 4 points. No teams at their best in round 1.
Freo had missed 33 goals in 2 weeks before Round 11.
If Freo kicks half of them that's an extra 7 goals in both Rounds, & King wouldn't be talking about Freo
But they did.
@@nathand4500
My point is, they kick straight Kingy isn't talking about them
@@andrewkerr5296 yes, that's my point too. bad kicking is bad football.
