Canadian dental coverage plan begins today for eligible Canadians

  • The program is expected to provide dental coverage to uninsured families who earn a household income of under $90,000. It is being rolled out in phases and the eligibility age brackets will be lowered in the coming months.
The program, which the government forecasts will cost $13 billion over five years, is a key part of the Liberal government's political pact with the NDP. About 1 point 7 million Canadians have signed up for the plan but only 5 thousand dentists have -- with many saying they have concerns about the program.

Well, don't get too excited about the new Canada dental care because the dental price guideline is way below what the dentist will charge you. I went to my emergency dentist to have my tooth pulled before the new plan roll out, I was charged under no insure price. I also planned to have partial denture done and the dentist provided me with a quote for the cost after having all the x-ray done, but I couldn't afford it. Last week, I went in to have my loose tooth pulled after receiving the new Canada dental care coverage . Instead of pulling the tooth, the dentist performed the cleaning of 15 teeth I have left without pulling the complaint tooth, then charged me over $500 minus the insurance coverage = balance. I am afraid I may still have to pay thousand of dollars to have my partial denture done even with the new Canada dental program. It seems like only the dentists can benefit from the new Canada dental benefits instead of the low income senior.
