I don’t understand why people are giving this beautiful attraction so much hate. People are complaining about the storyline.
Tiana’s hosting a party and you’re invited, but you’re missing an ingredient. The band! So you go riding through the bayou to find the most important ingredient.
Splash was a rabbit leaving home, and a fox and bear chasing him. (Basically)
Sooo, the story isn’t much either. Now I will admit Tianas story is somewhat lackluster. (Especially the drop).
Currently, I feel the drop doesn’t fit in to the story for Tianas, but that’s an easy programming and dialogue change. I say that because The Shadow Man DOES NOT BELONG IN THIS ATTRACTION. This takes place one year after the movie. (He’s gone at the end of the movie). Now, yes it would be insanely cool to have him in the attraction. However, you have to look at the full perspective. He wouldn’t fit in the attractions storyline. It just doesn’t make sense.
Just to note: This attraction also has highly advanced animatronics. Now, it has significantly less animatronics than Splash. BUT THATS A GOOD THING! These figures are BEAUTIFUL and super fluid.
Obviously I’m not going to say Tianas is the perfect attraction. It’s not. Yes, it has pacing issues. But so did splash. Yes, it has some issues with the story. But so did splash.
Moral of the story today, Tiana’s is a great replacement for Splash. So, please don’t go in hating it because it isn’t splash. Give it a chance! Yes it has its issues, but it’s a beautiful attraction and great replacement! If you still hate it after riding and giving it a chance, go right ahead with hating it. But just give it a chance.
    Edit:
Just got off the ride. Literally phenomenal. I loved splash but this is such an upgrade!
    2nd Edit:
Rode it 11 Times last night. It was amazing for all 11 times I went through with basically no issues with the attraction itself.

Splash Mountain may have had a simple plot, but the story was told both through unique lyrics for the ride itself and character dialogue that changed throughout the ride.
Tiana's just slaps on the music from the film, hinging on lyrics that just barely fit the ride, and almost every bit of character dialogue is the same, "They sure can play!" It simply doesn't have the same amount of care in storytelling that Splash Mountain had.
As for the animatronics and such, the big ones barely work (and Tiana's wrist has fallen apart at one point in the ride), Imagineers made a very weird decision in having them stand blankly before you reach them, and the smaller ones honestly feel a lot more simple than Splash Mountain's.
Expensive animatronics mean nothing if you aren't going to have them do or say anything interesting.
Also, I fully supported this change when it was announced, but Disney-yet again-slapped Black characters over something that already existed and did it in a worse way, instead of giving a Black story its own spotlight. I'm tired of them stoking racial tensions with half-hearted projects that aren't even good. They had a responsibility to make this undeniably better than Splash Mountain so we could weed out any racist perspectives, but they yet again didn't give a Black story the care it deserves so now everyone is mad. They've repeatedly done this over the past decade.
I will say this: I don't think this ride is unsalvageable. They really just need to populate a few scenes more and put in some more interesting dialogue. I watched 5-10 ridethroughs before I heard the screen Tiana and Louis talk about frogs with Tiana going, "Ha! Been there, done that!" *That's* fun. Way more of the ride needs stuff like that and less, "We still need to find *more* musicians for the party." I'm still curious to see if Disneyland's layout fits better-it honestly may.

@@bleepiestofbloops All great points. Just trying to stop the hate with the actual ride itself. I’m currently sitting in an All-Star Room rn after just riding this 11 times in a row lol. And after 11 times, it’s still decent. I feel like pacing is the biggest issue with it. It’s like you enter and immediately find 90% of the band then there’s a little straight area of nothing exciting, then Tiana. Also in all 11 rides I had, only two animatronics temporarily stopped working. By the next ride through they were back to doing their thing. The blankly staring is a little strange, but it should be fine when it’s at full capacity and the logs are semi-backed up.

I won't comment on whether it was a problematic film or not as I don't know anything about it, but the ride was in absolutely no way problematic. If they wanted to get a new ride in to change stuff up because Splash Mountain was old, a lot less people would have had an issue, the problem is that it was completely unnecessary.

    • @1D10CRACY

I think the new retheme was executed rather well! Splash mountain had aged out and leaving it in it's crippled state, continuing to pamper it along would have been a mistake and Disney knew this! Having already caught negativity in the media, they had no choice but to do a retheme. Disney also understands every time they retheme or remove an attraction, they create disgruntled fans. The ride could be 10 times better and there would still be haters. This is all a calculated risk. The real test of how good the attraction is will be the wait times. As far as "fans and pass holders" deserving more, no. Disney owes you nothing! LOL You go the park and pay if you like it, you don't go back if your experience is bad. It's a business, nothing more.

Even Bob Iger when he check the ride and found it "boring"
Mostly because most of the ride didn't look like the concept art on the outside.
they change the Story concept of the ride, Tiana originally wasn't looking for a band but looking for spices and t expand her cooking busines as she kept looking she would find critters playing songs at the Bayou.
Also the lack of extra animatronics affects the ride on making the audience focused, Before Splash mountain closed for renovation and refurbished there were a lot to see, it made you focused on the sides of the ride than watching straight forward.
But Tiana's ride feels more like Pirates of the caribbean or to put it fair, Avatar Boat ride, mostly is tv screen all around and less animatronics.

The Na’avi Shaman is gorgeous, scary realistic like she jumped from the movie screen to where she sits on the ride. Her movements are so fluid they teeter into the uncanny valley. Nope. The ride has a ton of story issues and technical issues. It looks like they took care with the animatronics and then halfway then they abandoned their efforts halfway (hence the non existent QA testing). Then they lost the plot and decided to cobble together the rest- hence the depressing dead space. The visuals on the ride are half of what they were on Splash Mountain. And then the excessive use of projection screens- that ticked me off. That’s one of the laziest ways to construct a ride half assed.
They should have retold the story. That would have given them plenty of room to make more animatronics - including Dr Facilier and his “friends on the other side.” Honestly the actual story of the movie fits MUCH better with the path of the ride. Example: The Laughing Place section should have been replaced with Tiana and Naveen becoming frogs. Going up the big mountain, you put an animatronic of Tiana with the amulet, mimicking the scene where she smashes it, as that’s where the climax of the princess and the frog is, mirroring when Brer Rabbit is captured (the climax of that movie). Vultures at the top would be replaced with one or two of Faciliers “friends,” all to Faciliers famous song.
Tiana’s ride is empty compared to Splash mountain, and honestly a good representation of the soulless skeleton Disney has become. And the tragedy?
It didn’t have to be this way. They could have made a brilliant ride with Tiana and the whole crew, and they didn’t

Hi Will. You sound very young. 2 things for you to research before talking about banning people you disagree with. 1) check out the lead imagineer for Splash Mountain, Tony Baxter's commentary on whether or not this ride was problematic. It was not. It was in fact approved by the NAACP and Michael Jackson who was filming Captain EO at the time. 2) Song of the South is based off the beloved Tales of Uncle Remus, which the African American community hold dear. Song of the South was set in the prohibition era, post slavery. James Baskett, said playing this role was the highlight of his career. Walt Disney was a pioneer in casting black actors and women at a time when very few others did. Mr. Baskett's history is being erased as is a lot of American history through cultural Marxism. Splash Mountain was an iconic ride with Oscar award winning music. Lastly, please do look at the history of the AVERY ISLAND SALT MINES (where Tianas' Bayou begins and is based on) Slaves worked and died horrible deaths in these mines, this is the new queue of TBA.

But when the ride system fails to work with reports of virtual queue for 1pm on preview day being cancelled and people waiting multiple hours for the ride because it went down is not acceptable. Disney has become obsessed with extending the movies for the rides rather than doing the movies. In some cases this works like Galaxy's Edge and Toy Story Land. However here it felt boring and uninspired. Even if they were adement that it had to be one year later then they could have just used 'The Friends On The Other Side', as they were never truly defeated in the movie.
    So yeah there's my take.

My problem with this ride is the absolute lack of storyline. Aside from a party, it's basically out-of-place scenes that don't add up to anything in the grand scheme. The original Splash had an immersive story and good scenes, but the screens used in some of this ride are awkward and not well thought out

I’d disagree with ya right there. The story is very very clear. Pay attention to the queue and the first Tiana Animatronic. She explains exactly what you’re about to do. Also after that lift hill and when you take a right there’s a sign that reads “short cut to the Bayou”. So you know the location you’re in, and the story. Now, I’m not saying the story is amazing. It’s simple. But so was Splash’s. And that’s that. Nothing we can do. But even the simplicity of the story isn’t boring. I rode it 11 times, I was only bored when the logs occasionally got backed up lol.

The other storyline is “lets go through a forest and find friends for a party”. If what ur trying to say is both storylines are simple, I dont have a problem with simplicity. Almost every ride I like from Disney has a pretty simple story. That story just has to be interesting, and with the IP they are using they had an easy opportunity to add a Villain that could have added some form of stakes to the storyline which can make elements of the ride that more dramatic. Imagine if rise of the resistance was a tour of a star destroyer with no Kylo Ren.

It has some good elements to it like. I like the designs of the critter bands and i wish disney would have gave them voice actors to make them likeable characters. I think the armadillo character is cool looking even though he's not animatronic. I like that some of the songs from the film made it to the ride like "gonna take you there" and "dig a little deeper" and the animatronics and lighting effects are kinda stunning. But to me it is still a boring and lame ride. Theres scenes that look lack luster, there are no funny moments or scary moments, the america sings animatronics that have been there since 1974 are gone, the cartoony props from splash mountain were replaced with hobby lobby plants and flowers, Dr Facilier is not in it, it references Superstar limo, and the story just doesn't make any sense to me. If you like it then that is perfectly fine. But to me. Its just Stitch's Great Escape all over again but This time replacing the iconic splash mountain.

I like the set designs, but it feels way less interesting to watch (and I presume to ride) than Splash Mountain, since it feels like a random collection of scenes rather than anything cohesive. • @RonaldoSwizzbeats
      @RonaldoSwizzbeats 24 дня назад +3

Absolutely. OG splash mountain actually celebrated the African folklore where the characters and story came from and how these stories were adapted and told by slaves to their children. The ride was built with guidance from the NAACP and the first black man to receive an Oscar did so while telling the ride’s story. It’s honestly absurd to turn this ride into a literal slave site (Disney has released publicly that the mountain is based on Avery Island and that’s where they went to research for this ride) and then they had the audacity to make a joke in the queue about the “seasoned veterans” who worked there. Disney could have leaned into the historical significance of Brer Fox, Rabbit, etc… but chose instead to erase African American history.
For the record if they had to retheme I don’t think Tiana is a bad fit at all. The execution is so poor though that any significance this ride once held is lost.

I'd rather go on 2 of the worst Disneyland rides Autopia and the Spinning Teacups than go on this boring Disney Junior Princess Tea party Tiana's Bayou Adventure
I have to disagree with you Real Life Coasters. I'm aware it was sad that Splash Mountain was going away but I was okay with it getting replaced. I was originally exciting for the Princess and the Frog ride but after watching a Disney World preview of it. I was very disappointed with how empty the ride feels, the ride is missing many of the iconic features from The Princess and the Frog including lady butterflies, Lawrence, the 3 hillbilly men Reggie, Darnell, and Two Fingers, the dancing Pink Flamingos, and it's missing the iconic villain Dr. Facilier and the tombstone. Also it's missing the villain song "Friends on the other side reprise" with the chant "Are you Ready" at the big drop off. Also there's not enough critters and there's no scary elements like creepy trees or shadow spirits or cave bats.
I do not care for the plot sequel "Missing Ingredient and gathering musicians" I would've rather had the original Princess and the Frog plot where you have to defeat Dr. Facilier. Or in the sequel they should've went with "Lawrence summons Dr. Facilier and save the restaurant" where you the guests have to stop Lawrence from bringing back the spirit of Dr. Facilier and then at the drop off the song "Friends on the other side reprise" plays and shows cave bats singing and it shows Mama Odie fighting the spirit of Dr. Facilier and at the drop off it shows a tombstone of Dr. Facilier. In the end Lawrence is arrested again by the police and taken away while the guest arrive at Tiana's party and at the end Mama Odie has Dr. Facilier spirit bottled up.
If this is the official Disneyland ride of Tiana's Bayou Adventure and they don't play "Friends on the other side" then I'll be very disappointed and I'll forget about this underwhelming ride and pretend it never existed and go on the awful spinning teacups or Autopia ride instead to forget this beta Tiana's Bayou Adventure ride. I'm not going to settle for a slapped together ride and hopefully in time it will be either close and get redone to include a cameo of Dr. Facilier and include "Friends on the Other Side" song or else have Tiana's Bayou Adventure rethemed a second time to Pocahontas Around the Riverbend.
By the way I'll continue to dislike Tiana's Bayou boring Adventure ride until Disneyland and Disneyworld fixes the ride with my favorite "Friends on the other side" song and Dr. Facilier cameo. Otherwise I'll ignore the ride the next time I go to Disneyland.

DL was Walt’s empty canvas, and anything was subject to be replaced. The only way DL can grow now is by expansions (which are rare anyway, there’s only been 2), rethemes or tear downs cause screaming meltdowns. Walt would likely replace all the +10 yo rides and be excited about it, while thousands were throwing tantrums.

Disney World's Tiana's is alright, just a little bit bland- but I'll say, just taking a look at Disneyland's facade, I have a feeling things are going to be much better over there, especially because they have less space to work with, so the ride will feel more full, and they can improve on things that they didn't do so well on before.
While I'll forever miss Splash Mountain, I think Disneyland's Tiana's will be better than Disney World's for sure. Hopefully they also slightly alter the story to be more clear as well.

I like Splash Mountain but I'm not gonna let my childhood cloud my judgement just because Disney had a terrible reputation of pandering. I already had a childhood of riding Splash Mountain and i still sing the songs. But people need to realize not everything will go their way just because its "muh childhood".
And no I didnt watch Song of the South because it wasn't part of MY childhood so I dont understand it nor I care about the change. Not everyone has watched the film because it was banned a long time ago. Sure i can watch it online but it wont be the same as watching it as a child.
I haven't ridden this version but it looks nicer than i thought and looks way better than before.
There's a saying that if you keep begging, complaining, or forcing someone to do something you want, they'll do the opposite. I think this is why Disney isn't listening to people. All the complaints is just gibberish to them. The only way they'll listen is through money and capitalism. If you want a big company to listen to you, you have to strategize.
