It really is “adaptive” cruise control: “Called in BMW speak Active Cruise Control (ACC), it is a brand new system that has been developed together with Bosch. It can automatically regulate the speed at which the bike is traveling based on the speed set by the rider and the distance to the vehicle driving in front. The system will try to maintain the distance from the vehicle in front as set by the rider, who can choose one of three settings. To calculate the distance, ACC uses a radar fitted at the front of the motorcycle, and it works together with some of the other systems on the two-wheeler, including the brakes and the ABS system. The system can detect only moving vehicles, and will not react to stopped cars or traffic lights, BMW warns. According to company, the new system is also able to automatically reduce speed during lean angle cornering, while at the same time trying to keep acceleration and deceleration within tolerable limits during an increased angle cornering.”
That's interesting, but is anyone going to use it? I just don't see anyone paying that much for that bike to be spending enough time on highways to even bother with adaptive cruse control
back in 2010 the S1000RR was the bike to have when it came to wanting the fastest superbike in the pack, I'm still eating up the newer versions 2015-2020 on a simple 2013 S1000RR with Andreani suspension, full akropovic system, air filter and a tune on the road, i would love to see if the 2020 is a crisp and on rails as mine on track but that will have to wait
What I’ve heard, and this comes from BMW insiders, is that their undoing at the SBK level is the factory’s insistence on using their own electronics rather than the Magneti Marelli components the other teams all use. Let’s hope that Van Der Mark and Sykes can put this one on the podium next year. Sick of BMW winning in superstock form but missing the boat on SBK trim. However, if they haven’t solved the electronics issues, not sure how far this homologation special will really get them.
Think when you guys said the “M” package you meant the “Competition” package. There is not an “M” pack for the M RR. The “M” pack is the lithium battery, carbon wheels, race pro modes, and adjustable swing arm on the regular RR.
The current bike makes massive power, but doesn't respond that well to further tuning- the new one will I'm sure. The new cam profiles have shifted the power up the rev range a touch, the bike has slightly lower gearing, so thrust in each gear will more than match the s1000rr's, but will be noticeably quicker over the last 2/2,500 revs - ideal for the track ..... or setting new records at the Isle of Man, 137 mph lap ? on the super stocker !
Adaptive cruise control may be if you go up a hill it maintains speed, same as going down - it adapts to maintain selected speed? So basically not a throttle lock. Would have thought they'd all do that but whatever.
When Mr Baron was talking about the adaptive cruise control. It could be like my m3 where if you corner at high speeds with it on it turns it off for the time youre turning. Quick question to all that are in the know, on the S100 RR M they have badged "BMW" breaks on the front made by Hayes and Brembo's at the rear.... i was under the impression that Brembo owned Hayes, with this in mind, and given the spec of the S1000 RR M, are these not essentially Brembo's on the front anyway?
Not really bothered as for the riding I will be doing I think they are more than adequate for UK roads, just a case of getting the final bit of cash together so not to upset the wife too much
Love the natural stuff this felt awkward keep it real guys! No beer a laptop and dark backdrop. Tip a cow or let one rip bmw stats yawn can read it on the press release. Doesn’t mean I have a full time job with kids to support. Loving the journey guys.
you realise we had to put this together, digest a 32 page press release, shoot it, edit it, upload it, and prep it for RUclips within 4 hrs right? And we live 100 miles away from each other...
44Teeth no I didn’t. It’s easy to be an armchair critic all I did was watch. you two when it’s right are witty and funny and this felt like 100 miles away. However I want to balance it with what the hell do I know :) keep it going.
BMW cars have made tech move to to bikes. Just like stability control has moved to bikes, adaptive cruise control has also.
@44teeth, s1000rr vs m1000rr at portimao??
I cant imagine it being any faster or powerfuller but when wristy gets one i am riding it for sure
Definitely “soggy biscuits” for the launch ... Well that’s a term I haven’t heard in forever and thankfully hardly no one outside of the UK will understand it.
Great review, comedy content top notch as usual 😍😆👊🏻
This may explain Michael van der Mark's move from Yamaha to BMW in 2021.
Hei guys. I watched the whole video of Superbike of 2020 recently. Maybe I miss something. They said about the front breaks problems. Is that why they don't include Kawasaki and Suzuki???
Are you saying millimetres are different here (UK) to Japan!?
I’m looking forward to BMW SBK teams paying more for their bikes and still finishing 13-15th.
Literally no use for 99.9% of regular riders on the track over the standard S1000RR. You CAN'T ride to its limit anyway (sorry to burst the Squids bubble).
Chris "It's uncrashable..."
Chris crashes it.
BMW "Hold my beer!!"
There are also M badges on the lever near the master cylinder and on the rear hugger hahah
I believe there is a difference between an axle and an axis...
Is it uncrashable? Otherwise it looks nice, might trade in my 125cc for it.
I'm first in line👊✊💨
Hell ya Wristy, Glad to see you're doing better homie, cheers from NY
can't wait to see you wreck it
Omg how did they improve the 2020 s1k. Theres no way bmw can sell it to the public i dont understand how they can sell the s1k if some one that isnt pretty good on a sportbike buys ether one of the bmw 1000rr there going to kill themselves
I did not find anything on the German press release on the adaptive cruise control....may Chris is right then, crap translated...
All we need now is the next bbb ep
Such a nice bike!
